Move File Server to Microsoft Teams, NOT SharePoint

Ғылым және технология

Your "new" Windows Server is really just a Windows NT 4.0 file sharing configuration dressed up in a later version of the Windows Server operating system.
Microsoft Teams Files, OneDrive, and in some cases, SharePoint Online are FAR more superior.
So let's take the first step and call things what they are.

Not sure why the title says about non Sharepoint when you don't even mention Sharepoint and why Teams is better (as a SharePoint site is created anyway).?

Fair point on the title. And true a SharePoint site is created, but by working with the files in Teams, we avoid the unfriendliness of SharePoint.

@@Xerillion can’t lie I’m thankful one of my local MSPs have enlightened me about that a few years ago. I too was like there is 0 way I’m going to teach people to use Sharepoint lol. Honestly this is the option that makes O365 work well.

I took it as a a clickbait video with title to match. I guess they're just selling their services, not really doing anything like a tutorial video.

I’m confused. Why does your title specification mention moving files to Teams not Sharepoint and then your video no even mention either solution? This wasted my time which is pretty shitty honestly. Sharepoint blows and has the 5000 file per folder limit so I would have loved to have heard how to use Teams instead…you lost me as a potential subscriber due to clickbait bs title. Not cool.

Yea, I agree you can tell that this is not pointed towards an enterprise level environment. It's just stupid to put everything on your local machine. There is a reason why corporations have file servers. It's so that multiple, multiple people can access them at the same time with little to no delay, ie your local machine is not doing all the processing power. Like @christianb6396 states it kills your system. I wish these dumb ads they put out would just go away cause anyone who is in the industry knows this is a bad idea. But hey if I can get people who know nothing about IT to buy into it makes Xerillion look smart, but what they are doing is trying to put everything off as the file server is bad and utilize Microsoft services. I'm sorry but Microsoft has only 1 TB per user. I have more than 1 TB of work data alone. How the hell is 1 TB of data enough for anyone in this day in age. Then on top of that you want a whole organization to buy into this crap. What a load of bs. lol

Hi , there are challenges with one drive , on a file server if the user account is disabled there is no license cost, but on one drive a license needs to be assigned for that particular user account to maintain the files inside the one drive. correct me if I am wrong in this

  • @Xerillion

Hello. One Drive data is not deleted until the user account is deleted - even if you remove the license. It's the same for accounts that get converted to shared mailboxes. You remove the license, but technically speaking the OneDrive data is preserved.

Yeah, you know....I thought that too, and maybe it very well has. A few months back I thought they changed it to Endpoint Manager, yet in the Microsoft documentation and even our license SKU's it is still referred to as Intune. So I reverted back to referring to it as Intune for now. 🤷‍♂

Thanks @Illinination1977! I sincerely appreciate the interest :) We find that the one-time costs that we need to do to get this system setup the way we do it usually isn't acceptable to companies under 25-30 desktop users. I should say...the clients are interested, but those deals almost never close.
