    A huge block containing the major planets in relative size would look amazing! To look at obviously it would be very expensive so it would be a good museum attraction or shopping centre focal point or something.

    But that is not really possible. Juppiter is so gigantic, it would absolutely dwarf Mercury. Maybe put the planets into a cube that is incrementally increasing in size based on the planet.

    My guess is they found two immiscible clear liquids with the same refractive index but different densities, and made the mass of the sphere such that its density is between those of the two liquids. Very neat!

    It would probably be infinitely cheaper and easier just to make it neutrally buoyant for the singular fluid used and for the wanted depth (in addition to making the upper part the buoyant one so it would always be correct side up).

    If you look closely starting at 1:27, you can see the border between the fluids (around the lower quarter of the cube). Keeping it neutrally buoyant in a single fluid would be very difficult with changing temperatures and pressure.

    You actually made me buy the previous model... my brother had his first baby and being mars/space/spacex buffs I promised him to get him an awesome present... bought the Mars mova globe. Everyone he knows loves it... it's been spinning away for half a year now. Yes its expensive but damn its cool. Wish the map on the globe was stitched more precisely however... it looks poorly done, even though its probably really hard to do.

    @@johnfrancisdoe1563 then just have a fixed globe, pointed at the North Star and with your location pointing straight up. Perfect representation of the Earth! As a bonus, if you set it like this in sunlight, it will show the light and dark areas of the Earth.

    How should I ask her that if I'm lying on the floor with blood spilling out of my skull? When it's things I need and can make good use of, I'll spend it, but this is just a really expensive novelty trinket that will be fun for a week and then sit on a shelf out of the way the rest of the time. For 25 quid I'd buy one.

    Likewise. for something that will be treated like a sandwich toaster (used heavily for a while until the novelty wears off and it gets put away and ignored) it seems very pricey. Same goes for lava lamps and those globes that look like lightning when touched. This is all my opinion though so if anyone loves the above, crack on.

    Interestingly the majority of the tech needed for this would have already been done for the original globe. This is really just that in a cube instead of a sphere.

    If it works by reaction against a spinning counterweight, wouldn't drag eventually slow or stop it with the counterweight spinning - or is the key that it shuts down overnight, allowing it to zero out and respin

    Super review. I have one of the original ones on the stand. They are not cheap, but if you want one hint to the family as then can club together and get it as a Christmas present. How I got mine 😊
