For me...the HRV would be a step up for me. I have the 2007 Toyota Matrix, and I have tried the Kia Soul as a rental, but the trunk was surprisingly smaller than my Matrix. The HRV looks bigger, and is more sleek. The HRV is a step up for me in the Japanese market.

Weird options! Here in Europe, there's a FWD-only 1.5 V-Tec, with 130 hp and a 1.6 diesel, with AWD available for it! Both have a 6-speed manual as a standard transmission, but only the 1.5 can be combined with the CVT!

Honda has Needed this vehicle for so many years it has hurt... Though it has kept us in our CRV longer, we're ready for this slightly smaller footprint in an HRV.

Thanks to informative videos like this one from #MotorWeek and perusing written reviews, we decided to buy the HR-V to replace our venerable CR-V. It's loaded with electronics and safety features we found appealing. Our HR-V came with the sunroof which does impinge on my head clearance being 6'1". The electric steering is quick and light. We've never owned a car with a CVT before and it takes some getting used to but I can say the car has a peppy response despite having the Civic's engine. I love the automatic climate control. My wife has her iPhone synced to the HR-V's entertainment system. It works quite well. You get two USB ports, an HDMI port and two 12-volt power ports to keep your devices connected and powered up. The 6-speaker 180 watt stereo sounds sharp and can handle heavy bass without devolving into static. We have just 500 miles on our new #Honda #HRV but we really are pleased with it so far.

The HRV was supposed to come out this spring. I've called all the big Honda dealers near me and none of them have a clue on when it is coming out. Some haven't even gotten one for the showroom. I really want to get it but can't wait much longer.

+vmv890 yes, mw has been going downhill quite a bit over the years. the best part of their reviews were the instrumented tests on the 1/4 mile track they lease, which is something that is still very much valued that those "other" crackpot youtube reviewers do not offer. unfortunately, it appears mw has become lazy and just resort to photography and voiceovers to create the illusion of a good review.

I don't know how many of the HR-Vs I'll see on the roads in the future, but I do see more Subaru XV Crosstreks on the roads, thanks to Symmetrical AWD. Although offering similar fuel economy as the HR-V, it has more usable power and torque.

These are becoming so popular because of poor visibility in cars. This sit up better, have better cargo room and just as good fuel economy. What's not to love. Plus you get AWD options which a lot of sedans do not offer. What's not to love.

EXACTLY ! I sat in the Mazda3 and I could not see the road because the hood in the Mazda3 was way too high. Oh, I could see the road 20 car lengths ahead of the car, but I could not see the road only 1 car length ahead of me, the way I can see the road in my 2008 Corolla. I then sat in a Mazda CX 3 and the view was much better, it was more like the old 2008 Corolla, close but not as good. So yeah, that's why people are buying these things.

i like this car a lot. i love the mpg ratings for it, but the engine seems to be pretty underpowered. i love the design of the exterior, very acura-esque, and i love the interior as well, and the price range seems to be getting there, was hoping that the lx would be in the 17k range, but at least it's under 20k. seems very practical and comfortable, would love to check one out in person and test drive it some time :)

I've got the 2015 Fit EXL/Navi and I'm considering an upgrade to this due to the nasty Canadian snow. I'm fully aware of the advantages a Jeep or a Subaru would have over the HRV, but I like dealing with my local Honda dealer. A couple of things about the HR-V are bugging me - the lack of power in engine and stereo. I suppose they left the road noise and manual seat adjustment so it wouldn't interfere with CRV sales, but if I'm springing for the EX-L version, I'd like something a little more impressive than the milquetoast 180w stereo. The incessant whinging about the touch controls is getting boring - use the steering wheel mounted controls. Yes, the digital touch is awful but hitting "auto" for the climate control isn't exactly a a 5 minute search. The CX3 is a contender, with a much, much nicer interior and tech than the HRV, but my test drives resulted in the same mpg for both, and a better experience with the HRV. The CX3 is a little coffin. I'm 5'9", and the door sills feel like they're too high in the CX3. Rear visibility is awful too. Honda does a lot of stuff right, but seems to intentionally walk into a haze of boring. There's no reason they can't put 160hp through the 1.5L in the HRV. For 20k/yr driving in city/highway 50/50 mix with a LOT of snow in the winter, I'm seeing the HRV as a better option than the CX3. The Crosstrek is better for ground clearance and AWD system, but they're so ugly inside, I feel like I'm in a 1989 Dodge. Why Honda won't be offering AWD in the upcoming TypeR is another moronic move by Honda and another topic altogether.

Cartoonish Jeep Renegade? That Nissan Juke looks like the Mars rover. I have to say Honda's mpg ratings have always been disappointing. The Fit barely gets better mileage than the Civic while the CRV/Element averaged in the mid 20s. How is it that the Subaru Forester manages to match a sub-compact in fuel economy? For shame Honda. For shame.
