2016 Honda HR-V - Redline: Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Looking to capture some of the sales success from the ever popular CR-V, Honda takes its successful Fit platform and gives buyers more of everything. With more room, a higher seating position, and more features, does this new HR-V have what it takes to be the sales leader in this emerging segment?

My mom just bought one of these used a few months back with the 6 speed manual. She let me drive it and I was quite happy with it. I'm actually working on saving up to buy hers from her so she can hopefully get into an FJ. Coming from the owner of an old 2005 mini cooper, I'm happy to see how much room is in the engine bay, should make it a whole lot easier to work on.

We owned a 2016 HRV EX AWD and it was quite reliable and roomy. After owning it for about 6 years, we just grew tired of the lethargic engine, spartan interior and loud road noise on the interstate.

Awesome review! I love the fact that you subtly mention the lack of offered features here in america, Vs it's overseas big brother counterpart the Honda Vezel (Panaramic Sunroof, Rear Arm Rest, 1.6L i-DTEC Diesel 75mpg engine/ 1.5L i-VTEC gasoline 50mpg engine, Jewel. LED DRL/headlights, Rear LED Tube/bar headlights, 2 rear map pockets, power outlet in the trunk, more interactive imid display, Rear map lights with Blue accent/courtesy light in the center, blue accent lighting for the interior ceiling, just to name a few....). I feel like America will never truly experience the magic of honda, if they just have us the "OPTION" to add these features, just the option, I'd appreciate that. I want to enjoy what the rest of the world gets to enjoy (UK, EU, JDM, China, Philippines, bassically, the rest of the world except the continent of North/South America (US, Canada, South Americas). Makes me wonder, why is that??? if all else fails, I hope that America Honda Co. upgrades the engine to a R20 motor (iLX 2.0L engine), at the least. Great review, nice clothes, well spoken. I could listen to you all day. You've got great features, hit the gym and flatten out that chest (I'm in the same boat fyi, just lacking motivation).

Hello, would love an update of the 2018 model of this. I was thinking of getting this, but your Accord review really pulled me that way, so an update on this would greatly assist my decision. As someone who have only driven sedans and compacts, I was aiming for a SUV or pick-up for a higher profile seating and field of view and thought the cheaper HR-V was perfect, however I'm no longer sure this would be enough power for me, especially with how great the Accord looks. So, it would be great if an update is possible, I plan to make my purchase decision by December.

I have a 2016 hrv. Within the past week I had a brake light start strobing on me. Went to the dealer to make sure it was the light. They told me it was and they would be happy to replace it for $600. I politely told them to go to hell. Turns out the brake light is an LED so you cannot replace the bulb you have to replace the whole housing. Now get this, here in florida all the dealerships are owned by one corporation that runs a monopoly on the state. They write the lemon laws and they have a choke hold over advance auto parts and autozone. I went to both advanced auto parts and autozone and they both have a note in their system that says that they do not carry the brake light and that i have to go to the dealer. Keep in mind LED technology is supposed to last bare minimum 10 years. Anyways, I was lucky to find the light on amazon for $160. Total horse shit.

Or an easy upgrade would be the 2.0L R20 that's in the Acura iLX. Its already here in the states, it's in the same family of engines (the R series engine, the hrv has the r18), it's a quick inexpensive fix for the lack of torque. just like they did with the ap1 s2000, they bumped it up to a 2.2L from a 2.0L. Americans need more power, especially since honda doesn't want to give us the 1.6L i-DTEC 70 mpg diesel engine that the hrv/vezel has overseas, that would fix the torque problem. Honda played it safe the first. cycle of hrv's to save money, now that they have feedback it'll be interesting to see if they offer the r20 in the mid cycle refresh. especially since EVERY review says that the hrv is underpowered. Problem is that people outside of the intended demographic like this vehicle, young students bought the Fit with its 1.5L engine. simple car. now they have a heavier hrv meant for college kids and young adults, they figured the minimal power would be ok as in the Fit application, bad assumption Honda, very bad...

+CAYVEMAN I have a Mazda3 and it's been a great little car, it can hold 5 people in a pinch, has good payload, outstanding handling and perhaps a bit underpowered...but that's the trade-off you get for high mpg, no doubt. I'm looking to give my 3 to my daughter and get something a bit larger, the HRV is a strong contender because I saw in in black with rims and it looked really sharp. That said, the CX-5 is a solid contender and probably a better car....more power, as good or better mpg, better handling, less road noise and all-around a proven platform...but not as good looking IMO. Tough choice and either one will do the job nicely. I lean towards the HRV for the looks but in terms of passenger comfort, functionality, zoom-zoom handling and overall features...yeah, the CX-5 is the better choice by a fair margin. I'm curious what you chose?

This needs their 2.0 or 2.4L engine, or maybe a turbo?

Needs the new 4 cyl turbo from the new civic or at least the 2.0L 4cyl from the accord.

Very poor decision to not use any knobs for the volume and climate control. During winter you will need to remove your large gloves to change the temperature..

Honda is ripping their customers off by offering such an antiquated low tech engine!

Love the vehicle but there is one thing I cannot stand; how Honda took away the volume knob. My friends 2014 Civic has the same touch-screen and I HATE having to use the touch volume 'scroller' and the steering wheel buttons, its just not practical. When you want to turn the volume way up or way down quickly it simply does not work. Please Honda just put a volume knob back in your cars

“Taken a look at a Fit and found it a bit too small” lol, the Fit had a larger interior volume than the HRV throughout its entire lifespan

I'm planning to buy my first car.. I need something that is fuel efficiency, good cargo since i'm moving, low monthly and reliable. I'm split with HR-V and 2016 10th gen Honda Civic. Please help me..😬😬

I had the same choice to make and went with the HR-V. There is much more cargo space, almost as fuel efficient as the Civic(if you go with the two wheel drive variant) and the payments are comparable if you stick with the LX and EX models. EX-L model will push the payments to uncomfortable levels if you're on a budget.

Engine is a dog for this vehicle. Very attractive to look at. Would have brought it home in place of Accord. Engine was major disappointment. Need base accord engine as an option. Honda CVT is a very good transmission while new in accord. Will be interesting to see how it is at 100,000 miles. Honda automatics late 90's and 2000's are to be avoided.
