Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2016 Honda HR-V is a sub compact crossover that's small and fuel efficient. Nathan's already reviewed it on the road in Miami but how does it do off-road in Colorado. In this TFLcar off-road review video we take it up the Gold Mine Hill Review.

I bought a Honda HR-V a couple months ago now. Same color and trim as tested in this video (EX-L AWD in Red) and I like it for the reasons that he doesn't. I am a big fan of the CVT over the traditional manual that I had in my 2012 Honda Civic EX. I no longer feel the car shifting, instead it is a smooth balance of RPM and gearing as the vehicle accelerates. Also, I like the all touch screen display. It looks great and it is functional You can swipe up and down in the volume to adjust it quickly. He was just hitting the buttons while the system was booting up on start-up of the car. I feel like that was a little unfair. But to be honest, I have mostly use the steering wheel controls for my audio anyway. It was just funny to me that someone could dislike the car so much for the very reasons that I like it.

three points less for having a cvt but 'buy it' for a manual version? thats actually exactly the opposite of what the average buyer of a hr-v wants. hr-v is biggest market will be working moms with 1 kid in areas with snowy winters. last thing that person wants is having to shift up and down in city traffic. remember you are not reviewing a track car for drag racers, its for the potential buyer of this car.

Is it really fair to dock it 3 points for one feature you don't like? The CVT is only noisy and buzzy when you are running the engine hard. Under normal driving, CVTs are relaxed and smooth. Honda CVTS do drone at WOT like any other, but they do exhibit behavior more like a traditional automatic otherwise. It's slow because it's an economy car with a small engine making modest power. I think you owe the car 2 more points.

Your rating system makes no sense. You probably should not lease something if you are unwilling to buy it. Also Honda makes the best CVTs right now and 99% of the buyers will not be able to tell the difference. I think your rating system should be based on how well the car achieves its goal. Also all Hondas makes sense to lease because the monthly payments are so cheap due to high resale value. Also the volume button on the steering wheel is what 99.9% of the people who use and it is dumb to take a point off for just that.

This is a budget SUV, not a jeep, do you really care what an all wheel drive's off road abilities are? I am sure that it will get you to the trailhead just fine, my Honda Fit does. The HRV has a ridiculous amount of room for its size and it offers a comfortable ride (test drove one) for the money. The gas milage is excellent. Using the same entertainment system, I can tell you that I rarely touch the touch screen and I am able to control everthing I want to with the steering wheel controls. Lastly, it's a Honda, buy it, don't lease it, put 300,000 miles on it and keep going until it dies, just my opinion.

I figured that out withing 30 seconds of sitting in the car. Now I dunno if that's too inconvennient for some or most or nobody, but I think its a bit neglectful to mention while you're reviewing the volume function itself.

You guys should really test these vehicles with stability control on and off to compare how intrusive a system may or may not be and weather it is the stability control or the 4WD/AWD system that causes a car not to make it up the hills. While I understand that you are testing vehicles in "normal driving mode" and everything turned on, most systems are intended to be turned off when driving through deep snow or when trying to free yourself when stuck in mud or snow. If the vehicle being tested does not have an authorized way to turn the stability control off (as in a button or through the cluster/infotainment menus), it may be useful for some people to know that. As an example, when Toyota/Lexus started installing stability control as standard equipment back in the early 2000's, some of the vehicles did not have a button to turn the traction or stability control off. When driven in snow, they are very difficult to get moving from a dead stop due to the very aggressive traction control not allowing much wheel spin, and this also made it hard to maintain momentum going up hills. There may not be many people looking to off road their HR-V's or a Prius', but the information could be very useful to someone living within the snow belt and needs a vehicle that can get through an unplowed road or driveway. Being in Colorado, I'm sure you guys can relate.

I like your channel, but I feel like you guys need some off-road driving classes. I really like videos by another youtuber, EverymanDriver, and he took this same car on some trails as well and did much better. You have to realize that with the new CVTs combined with AWD, you have to apply constant gentle pressure on the gas pedal and give the car a few seconds to appropriately apply the traction control system to transfer torque to the non-spinning wheels. I feel like in this video, Roman gave up way too quickly on the car and when he was giving gas, it was too much.

Subtracting three points for a CVT seems excessive. Are you doing this consistently now, because I don't recall such dings on the Subarus you've positively reviewed? Given there is variations between CVTs perhaps you should simply ding based on a vehicle by vehicle basis rather then have a blanket negative attached to what is becoming a pretty standard transmission. As a CVT driver I get the negatives some see, but a lot of that goes away when you adjust your driving.

I found the noise to be very uncomfortable on the freeway. It was so loud that it felt cheap and tinny and was a total turnoff to me. The HR-V was really solid and quiet on the same roads. It tracked beautifully and had a solid feel. I really wanted the MAzda to outperform the Honda. But it wasnt' even close. The CVT was smooth and quiet compared to the CX5. The HRV was one of the econohatches I was considering last year after buying a house in the snowbelt, 50 miles from work. The Toyota CHR doesn't offer AWD. I don't want a Nissan or a FIAT. I chose a 2016 Crosstrek with 60K miles on it. It's pretty comparable to an HRV. I liked the aesthetics of both. My Civic and Accord exceeded 200K miles without major issues. The Crosstrek has decent aftermarket support though, and it keeps growing. I can find skids, rockers, turbo kits, diff-lockers, steel bumpers, exhaust mods, intake mods, winchmounts, lifts, etc. If the aftermarket supported the HRV similarly to the Crosstrek and Civic, I probably would have gotten the HRV. The Crosstrek has some pretty neat "quirks" though, like the smooth boxer engine, the chain-driven CVT, almost 9" of clearance, and the symmetrical AWD.

Roman, I'm wondering why you took off three points just for the CVT. One point would have been enough for the things you mentioned. What if you had four or more issues with the CVT? It would have been knocked down to 'Forget It' status just on that alone and the HR-V is much more than that. I'm sure there are other things about the car that you could have deducted a point or two but to do it all on one factor seems to be a little unfair. Still, I appreciate the video. Thanks for the effort.

I'm sure there must be a volume adjustment control on the steering wheel so you don't have to use the touch control on the radio head unit. The HR-V isn't really made for off-roading. If you want to go off-roading, buy a Jeep. These AWD cute utes are for driving around paved roads in the snow, not climbing dirt roads in the mountains.

Now, I’m not going over huge ass rocks, but living in the PNW, I can still find some awesome trails to adventure to. That car most definitely could have made it up the hill without the traction control on. That’s my Opinion though. I have a roof top tent on my Honda and I haven’t been stuck ever yet 🤷🏽‍♀️ I also think good tires help of course lol. But even with the stock tires you get which are Michelins, work DECENT. But man with some upgrades tires you would have been set.

Really? You basically start off the video bitching about the CVT and using your new found dumb point system you knock the car before even we see you review it! /face palm. Just really need to get a grip on your CVT hate, lot of cars have it, and we all know the reason for them, but you don't have to mention your disdain every time you review a car with a cvt. Then you knock it down a point for the stereo? Really, the volume wasn't going up as it looked like u just turned it on and didn't have time to load up. Come, on guys ur better than this? You going to review this car on under normal conditions??

+The Fast Lane Car As an owner, the engine performance is sapped and it takes some getting used to. I'd love a turbo with a bit more torque. Getting around town though - not a problem. Road trip? Not a problem. Fuel mileage: awesome. Now maybe it isn't an off-roader and the points deduction is justified. But on the model in the video, complaining about volume control, then panning to the presenter where you see the steering-wheel mounted audio controls which gives you tactile response for volume control/source control, then docking a point.... meh. I think Honda was smart - it removed a single-use knob and kept a smooth face on the dash while still giving you physical controls. But that's aesthetics which is totally subjective.

+DazdnCofuzd I'm really tired of the incessant bitching about CVT's as well. This car wasn't meant to be a Land Rover. I think too many of these pundits are impressed with themselves about how purist the stick shift is. A toddler could learn how to drive a stick shift, it's time to let it go. If they want to be shifting constantly with a close-ratio manual in heavy traffic, fine. I think the public knows at this point how dull a CVT is, but if Honda put anything else in the HRV, they'd be shooting themselves in the foot re: mpg. You're also right about the radio. He was trying to use the volume controls while the system was starting up. If he waited 5 more seconds and actually turned the stereo on, he might have actually been able to use it. I own the 2015 Fit EXL, the exact same infotainment system and dash, and the volume is on the goddamned steering wheel. It's right there. I've put 20k kms on the Fit, and never once have I used the (admittedly) stupid on-screen volume controls. His frustration with the screen might have been justified, but it was inappropriately shown.

If you're getting an AWD version of the HR-V, the fuel economy doesn't make much of a difference, compared to the AWD CR-V with a 2.4 Liter DOHC i-VTEC engine with CVT, which is the most popular. I expect the HR-V demand to be lower than the CR-V, since most people would choose CR-V over this.

It seems to do quite well off road so far, but I have not yet tested it in snow conditions. I have seen videos where the HRV awd does extremely well in deep snow conditions, a few videos from a guy in the New York area with a 2016 HRV awd. The inside room is amazing and it seems to be built very solid. I think you will be pleased with the HRV, I sure am.

If you have a bias against CVT transmissions while testing cars under the conditions that you do, then maybe you should not test cars with CVT transmissions for your specific tests OR only remove one point instead of an automatic three. Thats fair to ALL cars. If you want viewers to take your reviews seriously you have to begin from an unbiased position. Js

The Honda has less rear seat room than the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. The Honda has effective 4 wheel drive. Mitsubishi all wheel control system was designed with experience gained from off road rally racing. It flat works better than the competition. 6.7 inches of ground clearance instead of the Outlander Sport 8.5 inches. The Honda has a smaller engine, less horsepower. Much shorter warranty than the Outlander Sport. The Honda looks like every other crossover ever built. The Mitsubishi looks distinctive and unique. The Outlander Sport has better safety ratings as well. And to put icing on the cake, the Honda costs more. Why in the world would anyone pick the Honda? Except to be a sheep and follow the crowd.
