When my mechanic puts it up on the lift its bone dry. Most northstars are wet underneath. He told me the factory worker’s must have been sober when they assembled my vehicle. LOL.

Currently have an 01 STS. Nothing done yet but gonna slap on a performance chip and a corsa exhaust. 135k miles rn. Dad bought it with 90k for $1000 in 2012. I installed a new radiator and fixed some hoses. I got a 0-60 of 5.2 seconds with turning off stability control and traction control. Have raced and beat 3 mustangs, 2 bmw's, an audi, and more. Love my car and really makes me proud to own such a smooth, powerful, and fast car.

Bought one of these around 2004. I was 20 years old and in the Navy. While all my peers had either imports or other appliance vehicle, I finances one of these cheaper than most of them were paying for theirs. It was a one owner corporate lease. 78,000 miles, yet it looked like it had never left the showroom. I loved that car. Silky smooth. And I used to blown away the ricers in southern California all the time. Meanwhile I could soak up the bumps of the Cali freeways while the ricers and their cut springs were shaken to death. Also, on freeway pulls this car would surprise most other cars that you wouldn't think would do so. 350Z? Bye bye. 90's/early2000 Mustang Cobras? bye bye. And plenty of others. I even took it to the Qualcomm 1/8 mile races. Got made fun of. But, also beat quite a few too.

@@Salpeteroxid I know salt is harsh on anything and everything, however I've seen several of these Cadillac's that have been exposed to salt and everyone of them have remained resilient and remained intact. They were built using primarily two sided galvanized metal. Mostly the typical metal parts underneath like suspension, brakes or exhaust will need replacing like usual. Deville, Seville, Eldorado throughout the 90's ad 2000's are all great choices. Stay away from the Fleetwood brougham as they fall apart and get eaten up by salt very badly!

It’s not the engine, it was the head bolts, they weren’t long enough. In 2000 gm finally addressed the problem they installed longer head bolts. But by that time the reputation hurt Cadillacs northstar engine. Thats a shame if gm would have addressed the problem sooner they could have saved the northstar engine’s reputation. Once the horizontally opposed northstar engine was fixed, they replaced it in 2005 with a new car called sts with a longitudinal northstar engine which had its own share of issues. It’s classic of GM fix a powertrain, replace it in a few short years.

I love Northstars when they run right. They are excellent motors. It’s a shame they’d dint have better head bolts from the factory. If they didn’t have head gasket issues then I think things would be very different for Cadillac now.
