Bought a used Motorguide Xi3 from my neighbor after he got a bigger one for his pontoon. Taking it next week for trial run. Looking forward to using anchor mode. I have a garmin uhh 93sv unit and live scope. Let the games begin.

I wouldn't call it "wonderful".

The Xi3 comes with a transducer in the motor. I can't get any information from Motorguide about the functionality of the transducer or how to connect with it. Fantastic trolling motor, less than ideal customer service. On the course lock, you can point the motor and it will go to where you pointed it without any input from you, or you can set a compass heading, and the motor does all the work.

Hi sir just curious have you ever heard of or see a Kaku Zulu there's a model that comes with a I Guide 55lb thrust trolling motor.

When I set my xi3 to anchor mode it seems to be hit or miss to keep it within a 5’ to 20’ area. When I come up to a spot and push anchor, almost every time, it immediately reverses is backwards about 10-15’ and then slowly creeps up to within about 5’ of the spot. Any tips or tricks to using anchor mode effectively?

Hi. I can't find any real guidance on the xi3 and whether it's truly limited to working with the lowrance and simrad for waypoint navigation. I now have the pwr129 and the xi3, and l'd like to know if Motorguide is just pushing those 2 makers, or it's really limited to them. I see garmin and hummingbird have NMEA2000 as well. I am thinking about buying this trolling motor, however I still like my foot control. So I was thinking maybe the x3. Is the spotlock worth it to you? How tight will it hold to the spot?

I absolutely love spot lock, but the foot control on it is trash. I would save up and buy an ultrex. Spot lock has changed fishing for me and for the industry. I think you should get a trolling motor with one, but I don’t recommend the Xi3. Look and my reasons not to buy a Xi3 video.

is this a 12v system? also do you still like it? any problems come up since you have now had it for a few months on water? Thanks for any info; i am thinking about upgrading mine that came with my tracker the 45 edge is a nightmare on windy days i hate having to move off a rip rap point just to re rig

Im just curious if your fighting a big fish that would be capable of pulling your kayak would the anchor mode help the kayak stay in place or would that put unnecessary strain on the trolling motor.

I think it would be fine, but if you mount the tm on the bow you will be fighting a fish that is behind you. The boat would probably turn. We are talking a big fish something bigger than 5-6 lbs.

Does it not have reverse mine don’t seem to work if it does.

Do you have to connect it to you fish finder (I have a garmin) to take advantage of recording the routes or anchor, or the gps things in general?

No. But you need to buy the one with the pin point gps to have anchor mode. It is just built into the head. You can buy it separately but it will cost you more.

I have a24 volt xi 5 bought brand new .anchore lock works good but it will spin the head around a couple times n make you think its gonna rip the cord off n then will hold ya put. I mainly bought it for heading lock for trolling which have never worked right.has a mind of it own goes all over the place. 1800.oo $ something not impressed. Any ideas . Have ya heard of anybody haveing same problems. Thanks

I haven't heard of that problem. Sometimes mine will go nuts and try to throw me out of the boat.

It needs the pinpoint gps system to use the anchor button. You can buy the kit to install in the head of your trolling motor. It should come with the remote.

@@stevebennett1858 No, they make xi3 with and without the gps in the head. If yours has the remote without the anchor mode button it can’t do anchor mode. It does not have the gps control unit. The gps control unit is called pinpoint gps. Not the gateway kit for linking to lowrance. You can buy the pinpoint gps kit and install yourself. Is the foot pedal necessary ? Or will the trolling motor work fine with just the hand controller ?.. I’m looking to get a trolling motor with anchor mode but if the foot pedal isn’t a must I may do with out

PrestonLoy81 It doesn’t need the foot pedal to operate. It comes with a remote that works pretty good. You just have to take a hand off your rod to operate it. I feel like it is a must but if you do lots of anchor mode fishing then it is not needed.

I just installed mine, too many bad reviews on the foot control, I'm not steady enough to use it anymore so I'm just going to learn how to use the remote control and be happy

How does anchor mode affect your overall battery life?

Alex McNew I have not had any issues with battery life. I use 2 size 29 lead acid batteries. I fish 6-8 hours regularly.

Cabela's 70lb thrust 24volts, and 60 inch shaft. btw I don't recommend this trolling motor. It is crap.

The spot lock gps works without connecting it to sonar, however if you want to use your lowrance unit to control the trolling motor and navigate to waypoints you need the NEMA gateway kit
