Motorcycle Suspension Rebuilding Fork: Replacing Seals, Bushings And Oil

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I go over how to rebuild your front forks on your Harley Davidson. This includes replacing fork seals, fork bushings, and fork oil. I'm doing this on my Harley Davidson Evo Sportster but I imagine it's the same process for any standard hydraulic front forks especially 39MM forks. It is not a very hard process and you only need your basic tools.

Rebuilt front forks on my son's sportster. You didn't leave anything out. Leaving one fork tube aside as a reference is a really good idea. Keep up the great videos. Ride Safe!

That old fork oil has a ...special... kind of smell, don't it? :) Don't forget to squeeze your front brake to take up any slack you might put in the system by slightly pushing the caliper piston in when you take the caliper off. It might be fine on the first pull, or part of that first handful of brake might be wasted in pushing the pads back out towards the rotor. The last time I took my forks apart, the last person in there had used red loctite on the bottom 6mm Allen bolt and I had the devil getting the bolts out. Had to heat the heads up with a propane torch, then they turned right out.

I had some trouble on the other one but didn't look like they used anything strange on it. I think it was more me not at a very good angle that messed it up but thankfully the kit included new ones.

I use a craftsman 1/2 that will go down to 20 ft. lb but I also have a craftsman 3/8 that will go down to 25in lbs.... Definitely don't get a harbor freight one as my cousin bought one from there brand new and it wasn't right at all
