Most Dangerous Ways To School | PERU | Free Documentary

Ойын-сауық

It is early in the morning as Vidal gets himself ready. But before Vidal can brace himself for his dangerous way to school he must take care of his family`s sustenance - like every morning he checks the fishing nets. After work it`s time for a Uro bread and he drinks a Mate tea. Both things, like almost everything else here are made form the totora reeds. The Uros are a people that are very rooting in their tradition. They have even managed to preserve the Pukina, their mother language dating back to the colonial time.
After two hours of paddling, Vidal reaches the center of the village. He floats past houses, where a family is building their new island since the old one has began to rot. It is the normal rhythm here. Every three years a new ground under the feet and a new roof above the head needs to be made. The construction begins by cutting the roots of the totora reeds in 30 cm long blocks. Five hundred of these are then tied together with ropes and soaked in the water for three months until they melt into one large block. On top of this block, the family piles totora reeds up to two meters high, until a part of the block sinks in the water and starts to rot. The gases released from this biomass under water produce a buoyant force that causes the new island to swim.
After three hours of paddling, Vidal has finally reached the Uro elementary school where he learns to read and write. Here besides his native language, he also learns Spanish. It is not the language of his parents, but at the same time it is his chance of a future outside of his village.

I grew up in Peru too in the big city, I'm glad that nowadays the Peruvian government makes the life of this poor students a bit easier by providing them with uniforms, books, meals and those funny hats, in my days back in the 80s they did not provided us with nothing, hopefully in the future they'll be provided with canoes or boats for transportation.

I am from Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩 . I used to walk to my school . The path was easy. It took 1 hour to reach . It was easier. My dad told me when he was young he went to school by rowing boats for three hours and it took one more our on feet to reach the school. I studied in a town school. Dad was from rural areas. This reminds me of my dad's experience.

Of all the documentaries I've watched, the documentary from Bolivia hits me the most. The 2 sisters who had to walk almost 4 hrs a day just to go to school and had to pass through the jungle. Upon arriving home, they will still have to help their mother who's a single mom to the 3 of them. Tears were falling from my eyes watching that documentary. I'm very much addicted to this series, I've watched few of them, and it makes me humble myself as well as recall my childhood days, where I and my friends also walk 3-4 kilometres to reach school. It's one of the best things that happened to me. It made me mentally stronger and when you walk with friends, you don't feel tired at all. Along the way, my male friends would climb a coconut or a guava tree as a treat for us when we get hungry. I am saving these videos because now I have a son, and I wanted him to see how lucky he is that his school is 500 meters away from home only. I hope that the government of Peru help this tribes, lifeboats, meals, free school supplies, uniforms, more schools and better safe transportation. Thank you for this video. It's good to see how these kids help other kids. It reminds me that it's not always late to help other people and that kindness still exist❤

The fact that those kids don’t get to live in a situation where their biggest problem is not getting more time on their Xbox is injustice in the first degree. I spent 3 days on an island in lake Titicaca. The children impress me in a way I will never forget. There was a festival coming up in the nearby village "The festiival of light " The children prepared all the lights to be carried on long poles They helped the younger ones mold and paint . and turned out works of art They had learned a responsibility , a way of caring and helping younger children that I never saw in my home country. Here we would have to remind them, sometimes give them ideas remind them to clear up afterwards.

I was born on the slopes of mount kenya n in my childhood the only time i used to play is on my way to school and in school. School was 1 hr walk n we went ducking away from elephants. At home we could work till darkness forces us to sleep. My first job abroad was baby sitting dropping and picking kids 3 blocks away from the house. They could fight over tv n i always got sclolded when they refused to eat or when they watched tv. I spent a whole 6 months wanting to vomit from what i was witnessing. Kids throwing themselves on the floor in shopping malls for toys. I was under a scolarship n made frends coz my classmates never beleaved u cld see wild animals without paying lots of dolars. I told them to pay tickets n come help in the farm. We have a big farm house. I told them to carry as many shoes as they cld coz while growing up shoes are a luxury. 8 yrs since our travel n till now they tell me what a good time they had. My 2 kids are 4 n i take them back to the farm to appreciate that life is not easy. I even volunteered in a school 4 6 months so that they cld learn my local language. Those kids are super adaptive

I was absolutely captivated and mesmerized by what I just saw. I felt a sense of joy, sadness, guilt and hope all at once. The lifestyle is so different, the landscape so surreal. God bless them all.

I live in Argentina and me as well will have to row a boat down a stream with my sister for 30 minutes, but we do share turns because she is old enough. We have to walk for 30 minutes after in the jungle. It is not the best, but it is all I know and I would not change the way I do it. If you have questions feel free to ask. 💖

Thankyou for these videos please translate what they say correctly. One time one of the children said “I’m hungry” while peddling to school ,Was not mentioned in English. Another time they said, “I feel happy when I’ve almost reached home.” This is so important so that we can understand what they are feeling and going through truly. Beautiful children how special you all are
