Most Dangerous Ways To School | NICARAGUA | Free Documentary

Ойын-сауық

Every morning, the three sisters Julia, Yulissa and Kenya climb into their dugout in order to row to school. They live on the east coast of Nicaragua, one of the world’s poorest countries, and the youngest of them has just turned five; the oldest is nine. They row across the Rio Escondido. Not only is it one of the largest rivers in the country, it is simultaneously one of the most dangerous routes to school. While they have to watch out for snakes lurking in the trees over the river, the three sisters also struggle against the current and must ensure the dugout does not fill up with water - because it has multiples holes and could sink at any minute.
Other classmates do not necessarily have it easier, because they live far from the river, and their journey to school takes them through the deep jungle. One of these classmates is 11-year-old Greyven. His daily trip takes him through the so-called ‘snake field’, in which coral snakes and the infamous boa constrictor reside. On the way to school, the rain drives the snakes from the empty coconuts on the ground; on the way back the afternoon heat, which is over 35 degrees, means that they are lively and belligerent.
The daily journey - ashore and to water - to San Mariano’s small village school is an adventure almost unimaginable to us. Every time they undertake this trip, the children expose themselves to life-threatening dangers, all for the chance to have a better future.

Those three girls already taking on such huge responsibilities have my deepest respect and admiration. I grew up in Cameroon, Western Africa and lived in a fairly developed town with two renowned Christian hospitals, electricity, water and school was just 10 minutes away. Now I realize I had nothing to complain about. I am also glad to see that the kids are Christians and pray everyday before starting classes. God bless their teacher Mrs. Miller too. Wish I could contribute something for the girls especially to get a new boat, good shoes, bags and life jackets.

I am pretty sure its the fact that people have to stay at home, which is scientifically proven to be detrimental to the psychological health, that are causing people to start complaining. It is thoroughly proven that just a few days of total isolation from the outside world is more than enough to cause significant behavioral changes. And when people are forced to change their daily routines, its more than a source of frustration. But above all; its the sense of losing one's freedom.

I went to school in a rural area in Venezuela (nothing like this for sure). One of my classmates in high school (his name is Hector), we were classmates 7-11 grade (HS in Venezuela is 7-11). Hector was never late for school and I don't remember him ever missing school. He always did his homework, had good grades, defended kids from bullies, and kept to himself (he was a giant among us kids). When we graduated from high school, his parents were so proud and invited us for a cookout at their home. It was only at that moment, that we all learned that everyday he woke up at 4am - left his house by 4:30am and made the journey to be in class by 7:15am. Every single day this boy made this trip and never complained or told anyone. I left Venezuela in '96 to come to the USA (I was so blessed). To this day I always remember his name and I am proud to tell others that I was very lucky to have a classmate like Hector. He is one of my role models regardless of whatever he is doing nowadays.

I was crying watching this video. How much struggle do these students do to get basic needs like education? Many of us complain for unnecessary reasons, but our excuses are shameful when comparing these kids' struggles and difficulties. I pray and wish for their bright future. I can feel these beautiful eyes are full of dreams. How innocent faces! Best wishes from the bottom of my heart.

I cried too. In fact I could not sleep after watching the love between these three beautiful sisters and also the love they all have for their mother. It was wonderful, but sad at the same time that anything could happen between the travel from home to school and wife out these three beautiful children. I also felt for the young man who eagerness for learning meant that he had to travel through the jungle with hardly a decent pair of shoes on his feet. It made me stop complaining about things that really serve no real purpose. These three beautiful young children plus the young man have no little, but the happiness radiating from them and the other children in the school room puts all of us in the Developed World to shame. I hope all four turned out ok

Bless these kids from my mother’s homeland ❤️ Edit: WOW I’ve never gotten this many likes before! it’s crazy to see so many people feel the same way. There were times that I go to school without breakfast or lunch. But I never stopped going to school. I finally got a scholarship in College and moved to the city, thanks to the help of one of our church members. Now, I work as an online Graphic Designer. I'm so thankful of the hardships that I experienced back then. The kids that I am helping now are my siblings.

first of all Canada should apologize for stealing the land from the natives, after that the natives who already know how to live respecting the nature should decide what the children should learn and how... then you as teacher would be respected. The children would go happy to such a school. Learning to be selfsufficient and how not to decay in consumerism and to poison their own people. I recommend you the book Continuum Concept from Jean Liedloff.

I'm from North Borneo (today Sabah), East Malaysia. I grew up inside of Crocker Range area and basically interior area and hasn't electricity or treated water supply. In 1999-2002, I walked 10km to nearest school everyday. So, we started to walk from home by 05.30am and arrived to school before 06.40am. Sometime, don't go school during rainy season because we couldn't cross over the river. Our family was very poor at the. Our parents can't afford to give money to buy food even 10 cents. I almost quit from schood due to life diffulties. In 2010, I was enrolled to Malaysian top university and funded by government scholarship. Today, I'm working with one of Malaysian multinational company. Dear young sisters and brothers, education is the most powerful weapon to change our life. Don't give up & always do your best. God bless, Immanuel.. ❤️

@@manthony777 cause most of us that have so very much take it for granted from a young spoiled age, aren't thankful at all even if we are considered poor by our own standards, and have no clue what other children are going through and will do to get an education. Oftentimes, first world kids feel sorry for ourselves when we have to go to school where we are getting fed physically, mentally, socially, economically, multi culturally, and even emotionally. These children keep repeating one thing they all wish to get from risking their lives each day- learning how to read. That says volumes about their society, their parents were probably not taught and that is how they know that being able to read will propel them forward.
