One-room schools are still used today, with only one teacher, teaching all grades in America. Very rural areas and even the Amish teach that way. It used to be that way everywhere. And, when our grandparents told us those stories about how they made it to school, believe them. Yeah, it's a joke everyone tells these days, but as you can see in these videos, it's common in places around the world.

This teacher reminds me of my dad. He used to work as a teacher at one of those villages in Colombia, for over 25 years. He could only come home for one weekend a month since transportation was so difficult. God bless those teachers and children.

My father used to walk 13 km to reach school without sleepers or shoes. But he continued studying and after serving Indian Navy and Black commando, now he has retired from higher rank in Delhi Police. I feel proud to see his struggles and achievements.

I was literally crying about my “problems” then God called me to get on KZread and watch an uplifting video… I was looking for a sermon or motivational speaker but instead I found this video and I’m so grateful I did. These young children want so much out of life that they are risking their life to do it… so inspiring !!!! I dried up my tears then wanted to cry more tears FOR THEM …

Their teacher's commitment to her class is incredible. She's wonderul. She deserves the world. Those kids are so lucky to have her teaching them 🧡

We in Nagaland (India) had to face something like similar situations during our school days, as we are from one of the remotes places in the North Eastern part of India. Bordering to Myanmar under the union of India. It would had been better if we were left to determine our future during British colonial Rules. GOD BLESS Nagaland.

This teachers dedication and love for these kids! There are other episodes where the children got corporal punishment for being late despite their dire circumstances. Where the teachers openly derided the kids for being “the poor ones” that “they just can’t learn well because of where they come from” and the classes seemed cold and lacking joy. This woman uses her meager paycheck to buy supplies, smiles and laughs with the children, engages them, and understands what they go through to be there and in life in general and makes class everyday engaging, educational( for 3 different levels) and fun. Absolutely amazing. I wish there was a link for donating supplies.

This teacher is better than most teachers in Europe. He puts his whole heart and mind into teaching, for little money. God bless her and give her the strength to continue what she is doing please. ❤

I am 15 and I live in Bogotá, Colombia, and I am lucky to have been born in a middle class family, and fortunately I have not lacked anything in life, I have had a great education, and I am very grateful to God and to life to be able to have everything I have, because I could have been like any of these children, who can hardly be educated, unlike I who have always been able to. I have always had hope, this new generation will change the history of Colombia, I keep waiting for the day when narcos who govern us will go to hell, and that Colombia can finally have what we deserves: Peace and equality.

I let my 8 year old nephew watch the documentaries like this because I want him to learn how to be grateful of everything he have.

Geographical location doesn't prevent one from helping if they really want to. Seek out a charity that helps school children in Colombia. And help them. It’s in your power to do so.

After watching all the episodes, this episode doesn't seem very dangerous it's just exhausting. But honestly, those kids are amazing and so determined to learn. Parents must be extremely proud of them. Little warriors 🙏🏻

Im literally crying for the little girl on her knees crossing, her education is that important. I cant complain about anything in my life after watching this. I just want to save her😭

380 euros is much different than dollars the exchange rate isn't equivalent. Could be as little as half =$150 or more than double

It’s much more than passion for teaching. She wants to make a difference for these children.

That teacher is a God-send! She’s teaching all grades with no text books and few materials and she’s devoted and kind. Those children will always remember her.

Did anybody notice the amazing landscapes of that country?

These children live in paradise! They are blessed with loving families, healthy life style and a beautiful hike through lush fields commuting to school. Yet, the narrator makes it sound as if they suffer!

My mother used to ride a horse about 10 kilometres each day from the farm to school. I think this made her a strong individual. I really love these children, families and teacher who make it possible for a new generation to be able to have options in their futures. Great documentary. 😁👍🏻🇦🇺

This teacher is adorable, she is considerate towards the kids. You can see that she being the way she is alone, that is encouraging enough to the kids to attend classes.

These children inspire me to be a better person.

The scene at 35:37 just made me smile with tears in my eyes. Children being children, and this teacher playing along. She has so much heart and I wish her all the best in her career. ♥️

The fact that these kids still manage to put smiles on their faces- i'm literally about to cry- i realize how selfish i am..always asking my parents for new shoes, new clothes, new phones- complaining about waking up for school at 4:30am :(

I was able to experience this obstacles going to school way back when i was in elementary grade.. Its so exhausting that you have to go to school walking for hours.. We have to cross wobbly wood bridge walk along the muddy soils walking barefoot but still we enjoyed every bit of those hardship...Im proud that i was able to experience those thing which made me the person that i am right now cause despite of unfavorable ways of going to school I was able to finish my studies with flying colors... Hats off to this kids!! You'll earn what you invest buddies.. Keep the flame of dedication burning

We all agree teachers are underpaid and under appreciated yet no one can figure out how to pay them more. Some country has to figure it out, right? The sacrifice this woman has made is inspiring. 💯😔

i just want to say that the girl at 4:41 is very beautiful and if she lived in another country she could even be a model. but most importantly is that her heart is beautiful!! 💗🥺 she is such a strong person. i really admire the dedication of these kids for their education. and i really feel grateful for what i have after seeing this.

Those grand parents are teaching him how to be a hardworker man one day, nothing will stop Juan.

When he said, ''when it stings you can die'' and he was still standing in the water, chills ran down my spine

I am amazed at the lengths these children go to for an education. The ambition!! And the teachers! I tip my hat to them. There is definitely a place in heaven for them all!

Loving and caring parents and grandparents, dedicated teacher, brave children... Absolutely adore all of them.

Poor kid Juan has it worst 😞 I pray that God protects him and bless him immensely ❤️🙏🏻

Enough respect to their teacher, she is going through a lot (from her sleeping room and the fact that she sacrifices some of her salary on the learning materials for children) to ensure that the children's dream come true. She is a hero.

We should always thank God even for the little things which don't seem important. May God bless these beautiful kids and reward them for their struggle

Second of all it’s not Gods fault it’s the leaders, God made human beings to help with the world and also to teach their children what to do and not. Even if you don’t believe in him you can help these types of children in the future to have better and safer life. So don’t blame God, blame the leaders, even if you don’t believe in him.

God gave humans brains for a reason to make them smart to help everything in the world and teach their children the goods and the bad but obviously some of them are not doing that I even said do not blame God and Jesus blame the people who are the leaders of the country all they want is money they don’t help the kids they just want the money so that their family can be rich so don’t tell me to open my eyes if you don’t agree my opinion fine, all I’m saying is that you are blaming someone higher than you for not helping those kids why don’t you as a human being who’s got brains even me as well and everyone else who is having a better life than these kids can HELP! These kids are so brave and beautiful and the teacher is so awesome and dedicated to seeing these kids to a bright future. May they all be blessed.

The teacher is wonderful and dedicated helping the children to learn, she's great.

Juan is a warrior! Such a strong Lad! 💪

It warms my heart to see the mom walking part of the way with her..and making sure she has water. While there are mothers who don't even care to wake up.for their kids.

Same. I also thought it was really sweet that she helps all the kids on the bridge and ensures they all make it over.

I am very glad my children watched this documentary with me, their school is 5 minutes walk from home, I hope what these children are through may help my children to appreciate what they have and value education above everything else

The film is full of lessons in all aspects. It gives vivid and hard to swallow truth about living by sweat. Juan is tweenager, however everything he has done on this film is by far the greatest lesson from the school of hard knocks. The teacher is so affectionate and so motherly, loved her so much. May God bless them all. Amen

This brakes my heart to see young kids walking miles just to get to school. New Zealanders are taking advantage. We need to help these kids make it to school easier.

This video reminds me of the times my grandma and grandpa told me stories about how they use to go to school in Colombia every day... and how my grandpa would always go bear foot because they couldn’t afford shoes, I showed my grandma this and she told me how lucky i am that I don’t have to go threw what her and these kids went threw everyday

These children are so respectful and beautiful. I pray their safety as they journey to school. I pray for their families and for them to get out of poverty...... Amen.

The boy Juan or Huan, really loved the kid. chubby and cute and really a lovable kid. i felt pity for him and all the other kids too. i pray they all fulfill their dreams and their hardwork pays off ❤

I have food, clothing,a roof over my head.. I consider myself rich from now on ...this kids are freakin' brave and so determine..

36:59 Huge respect to the teacher, it took a big heart and a lot of dedication to teach the way like her, and those little kisses from the students are probably mean the world to her. (Even though here in US could possibly get you arrested, lol~) Ps: The girl at the beginning is stunning, almost like a model. Best wishes to them all. This is no doubt one of my favorite document series. :)

I been watching all these Episodes and I have Humbled myself. Seeing these Babies go through this to get an Education is so moving and Beautiful. ❤
