This is a playthrough using Shang Tsung in the SNES version of Mortal Kombat 1. Read on below for more information...
Shang Tsung is the second and final boss of the game. He is an unplayable character in the original version of it.
This is an alternative version of the SNES game, where the boss and hidden characters are specially made playable. The game is known as Mortal Kombat Champion Edition, and the mod is made by a person named Snark-4918.
===== HOW TO SELECT SHANG TSUNG =====
On the character select screen, highlight Liu Kang, hold [SELECT] and press any attack button.
===== MOVELIST FOR SHANG TSUNG =====
Whilst as Shang Tsung:
-- Fireball: Any Direction on the D-Pad besides DB and DF; or [Block]
-- Morphs:
[HP] = Kano
[LP] = Liu Kang
[LK] = Rayden
[HK] = Cage
[SELECT] + [HP] = Sub-Zero
[SELECT] + [LK] = Sonya
[SELECT] + [HK] = Scorpion
[SELECT] + [LP] = Goro!

===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION =====
---- On the character select screen, when Shang Tsung is selected, almost the whole screen flashes.
---- On the Battle Plan screen, the creator has implemented a proper icon for Shang Tsung. In the original version of the game, this icon was glitched if you selected Tsung.
---- On the Battle Plan screen, the creator has implemented a proper fight plan opposition for Tsung, using Liu Kang's one instead. In the original version of the game, all of the opponents up to Endurance 3 were Johnny Cage if you selected Tsung.
---- The "Test Your Might" bonus games have been removed for Tsung to stop it crashing the game.
---- In a Shang Tsung mirror match, the alternate colour palette are "wrong" colours.
---- In a Shang Tsung mirror match, part of the name text on his lifebar is cut off.
---- In a 2-player game, his VS screen portrait image is of Liu Kang's one. This stops the game crashing at this point.
---- If you beat single-player mode with him, the creator has made it so that he has no ending and it goes straight back to the title screen. This was done to stop the game from crashing at this point.
---- When playing as Tsung, if he gets defeated he goes into his "multiple morph death" animations, but the game can still progress as normal.
---- This player version of Tsung is missing the move where he zooms back really quickly with a "leaning backwards" pose... only the CPU controlled Tsung can do this.
---- He cannot morph into Reptile (he never could anyway).

Modding has come a long way I remember back when I would use stuff like glitches or gameshark to play the bosses, but were sadly met with crashes

Hey, thanks for featuring MKCE on your channel! I was not actually that the CPU's version of Tsung's back-dash was different to the version that comes out when you press forward, but actually on closer inspection I see what you mean. Will definitely have to add this to a future revision of this mod. I have a couple of questions: what Game-Genie/Pro Action Replay code did you use to make the announcer say "Test Your Might" at the select screen? Also, why did you use a Game-Genie/Pro Action Replay code rather than the in game cheat? Just curious. :)

Regarding Tsung's fast back-dash, you can see it in the Reptile video starting around 20;34. The Action Replay code used is actually a character modifier code, it's 7E197208.

This is one of the best SuperNES hacks of All-Time, but why isn't Reptile's speed faster than the other players? In the Arcade version Reptile is obviously fighting in SFII Turbo while everyone else is stuck at MK speed.

No, Shang Tsung does not have the multi-fireballs in the SNES version of the game.

Actually in the original the cpu can throw up to 4 fireballs at once I've seen it done but maybe that was the genesis it makes no sense to play as shang tsung in this version if you try to back up to get away he throws a fireball if the other character is already close to you when the fireball is thrown it will not effect them and they can continuously punch you until your dead the controls for these characters are just awkward with a little more time and effort they could be better there are also still some minor graphical errors if you fight goro against goro the cpu goro will be blacked out and if you fight shang tsung against shang tsung the cpu shang tsung will be white and glitchy

@@nickforest7816 Well if you’re writing a long and detailed comment, then grammar does matter. Your sentences all run into each other as if they’re all one long sentence without any separation. It makes it a little difficult to understand what you’re talking about.

@@mariopenaneto1763 Mário Pena Okay, I've been able to reproduce the Raiden morph bug in ZNSES. From what I can tell, the bug only happens in 1P mode, and I believe it is caused by an emulation error in ZSNES. As you've seen SNES9X works fine, and so does BSNES, which is the emulator I mostly used for testing and development. I can also confirm that it works on the There was a similar bug earlier in development where morphing into Raiden during a 1P match would cause the game to end the match prematurely and cut back to the battle plan without advancing the player's position on the ladder. It's highly possible these two bugs are related, though it's difficult to tell because I don't have the same debug tools in ZSNES as I do in BSNES. Thank you for bringing this bug to my attention I shall try to have this fixed before I do another release. :)

@@SupportGamin2024 No, it’s not “obviously no” since “Finish Him” now appears after the playable boss wins and the player could just not know the button sequence.

It's because Shang Tsung isn't meant to be selected on the character select screen, therefore there is no announcer voice programmed in for his name.

Imposible usarlo bien a Shang tsung sin ser un hack, pero hay un truco oficial y algo largo para usar a Shang tsung y Goro, lo malo que cuando los usas se suele colgar a los pocos minutos el juego. Cuando se enfrentan Goro contra Goro o Shang tsung contra Shang tsung, el playera 2 aparece con el Sprite todo tildado. Y no lo podés usar en otro nivel que no sea Goro's Lair. Yo ese truco lo hice y me salió. Busque lo por las redes. Yo lo saqué de una revista en su momento.

@@cristianaguirre7316 Hola es medio largo el truco, lo tengo en alguna revista, tengo que buscarlo, los podes usar hasta llegar goro vs goro o shang tsung vs shang tsung o goro vs shang tsung y viceversa ya que se cuelgan según el movimiento que hagas. El color sale todo tildado del otro playera. Pero funciona.

Seems like a waste of time playing as Shang Tsung. He just morphs into other characters and aside from throwing a fireball has no moves of his own. You may's well just pick another character lol.

Lol but chances are you'll have morphed into different characters to win in the first place as he does basically nothing. It still doesn't seem worth it but that's just my opinion of course. 😂
