Joseph Smith was into divination, which the Bible says is wrong & most definitely not "christian" when the seer stone was gotten from a witch. I mean In scripture it says when you go into the world not to take on the practices & "abominations" Plus, one isn't to add to scripture or take away from it, and the book of Mormon goes against actual scripture. Then free masons actually worship lucifer and has occult practices, so god isn't going to weave those practices into a "true church." On Devination: "Deu 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Deu 18:13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. " I mean Joseph gets a seer stone from a witch( which God told his people not to consult), and he searches unsuccessfully for hidden treasure, and then he uses the same stone to interpret the gold plates that no one but him saw. That isn't a credible person and God isn't going to go against scripture and now say this stuff is fine. Lev 19:31 Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? The key is God doesn't change and he also said not to add anything to scripture: Mal 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; Num 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Jesus was always God, he didn't come to earth to work his way to godhood: Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Joh 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Don't add to or take away from scripture: Deu 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

That’s a good way to describe them and accurate to say “the corporation” that has kept billions of dollars they got from their Mormon congregations and devotees tax free! I was stunned on reading the Mormon involvement in that movie sound of freedom. Lyn Packer really did a fantastic expose on the crazy Mormon connection that has accrued millions from donations and not one dime has gone to helping trafficking victims. Last I checked the number was around 46 million and that guy the movie was about stepped down from his own organization. Plus I nearly died at the audacity of them, when I saw this crazy painting with Harriet Tubman in it on the sidelines (since he named his organization the Underground Railroad) with the Mormons being made the hero’s, in the painting. That didn’t go over well in the black community. And I can understand why. It’s almost funny at their naïveté that makes them think that it would.

Carah, you're awesome! Johnny's video was fairly tame, but I appreciated that because I think that makes it more likely that TBMs will watch it, which is a great thing especially given his large audience. It's also very much his style to take very complex situations that need hours to dive deep into and doing a good job at presenting it in a short format. I'm sure the TBMs feel uncomfy while watching it, but because it's more tame, hopefully they can take something memorable away from it. Those apologist TBM reactions were so cringe; thanks for taking one for the team to watch them all for us to share. wishful thinking, but it would be amazing if one day we could get a long Netflix documentary with people like you, vogel, johnny harris, etc

I consider myself lucky. My parents were both converts and I was raised in the church from age 6 to just about 13. And then the unthinkable happened. My parents divorced, something seriously frowned upon in the church. My mother then went back to her East Texas Pentecostal roots. The sedate, emotionally vacant Mormon Sunday morning service gave way to an angry God who screamed and yelled and wanted to toss me into a lake fire if I so much as THOUGHT something he didn’t like. This strange dichotomy helped me to keep organized religion and spiritual separated in my young mind. For me, one is about communing with and trying understand our place purpose in the universe. This is something a church is not needed for. While the other, in the end, is really only about controlling people.

I'm sorry, I got hung up on the gift box example... I like using the analogy that an apologists use. Let's develop this analogy all the way through. If an acquaintance gives me a nice gift box that he says contains, let's say a 20 carat diamond, then I should be very gracious and not "ignore the wonder" of this gift. I'm sure most of us would be very gracious and all. But if I happen to notice that there is a scuff on the outside of this box, and maybe the paper is peeling on the other side, then I might start to have doubts about the contents of this box. Surely an amazing gift of this nature would only come in a very high-quality box that would be well taken care of. So then I think about the origins... Well, the guy who gave it to me, I know has never had a great paying job and barely puts food on his table. So yes, it's not so crazy to think someone would ignore the "wonder of the gift" if you analyze the box, and maybe question the origins of it. I would absolutely draw the conclusion it's not a real diamond. But I might also investigate the claim, look for papers validating it, take it to a professional gemologist, and find out where it came from etc... If all that points to it being a cheap hunk of plastic, then yes, I would start drinking coffee and stop paying tithing... I mean "ignore the wonder of the gift itself". Rant over.

These knuckle-heads are using the word "trope" incorrectly. "Treasure Digging" is not a trope because its NOT an English usage metaphor, simile, hyperbole, etc. Joseph Smith Jr was actually self employed (along with his family, and several of his troop) as an illegal money digger, or treasure digger. This is not a trope; rather, its a very real actual designation for a common type of 19th century conman. There is more than ample evidence for this fact. For mormon apologists to deny Joseph's treasure digging (or the fact that the golden plates come directly from that) are blatantly ignorant. To add insult to injury they have the brass balled audacity to compare Joseph's real treasure digging to anti-semitic tropes! These jokers are absurd. marcus

  • @MM-jf1me

@@clarasundqvist6013 You've probably already figured it out. 😃 "Never Mormon" refers to someone who has never been a member of a Mormon faith* -- it started out with people typing "I've never been Mormon" or "I've never been a member of a Mormon religious group" etc usually at the beginning of a comment, e.g., "I've never been Mormon, but I think XYZ about this topic." Over time the phrase was shortened to "Never Mormon" like, "Never Mormon, but I think XYZ about this topic," or "Never Mormon here. I think XYZ about this topic." Now it's become a term in its own right with content creators like Carah specifically referring to "Never Mormons" as a group or people referring to themselves as "a Never Mormon." Some people who leave the faith call themselves "ex-Mormons" which is sometimes shortened to "exmo" or "exmos" to be a bit cheeky. I've seen some people use "nevermo" to refer to never Mormons, but that's very rare -- just thought I'd mention it in case you ever came across it. *Mormon faith groups -- Joseph Smith Jr's religious movement has many spinoff groups. To refer to all of these religious groups as a whole one could say they're all part of the "Restorationist movement" or they are "Restorationist churches" or they are part of the "Restoration" since Joseph Smith Jr. taught that his church was a restoration of how the early church was. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the group with the most members and so many people think of them first when they think of "Mormons" -- however, as of 2018 that group's prophet said to stop referring to their members as "Mormons" or "LDS" or to their religion as "Mormonism" and since then members of the group have equated being called Mormon to being called a slur. I mention this to you as members of this particular church will take offense at the term "Mormon" whereas members of other groups still proudly call themselves Mormons. You may know all this already, but thought I'd mention it just in case you didn't.

@@clarasundqvist6013 The current prophet for decades has strongly felt that it is demeaning and incorrect as one of their scriptures specifically says that their church shall be "called" [long name]. When he became prophet he had the might of the organization behind him to enforce the change he wanted to see so he did. Incidentally, this change is one of the things that caused Carah to begin questioning the church -- in another video she mentions how she had been working on the HUGE media campaign to normalize Mormonism centered around the statement "I am Mormon" and depicting people from many different backgrounds to dispel anti-Mormon stereotypes and promote a positive view of the Church among the general population. (I remember "I am Mormon" billboards in my hometown from this time....) They spent millions of dollars and then literally the next year (or two years later?) made this huge switch and Mormon became a dirty word. Some people agree with the prophet that this was a needed change and that's OK, but it's interesting that the former prophets that were very familiar with his anti-the-designation-Mormon viewpoint literally changed nothing in the church when they could've had they thought this was a directive from God.

I remember one edict sent out by someone disgruntled with the Coke-a-Cola company, so he decided to forbid Mormon's to drink any coke. Quite childish I would say. The Church leadership sent out a notice that the fellow didn't have the authority to do that.

I believe the main claim behind the Book of Mormon being needed is that it was written because the original word of God was corrupted? And it is difficult to argue against the golden plates in an effective way given a fallback on the evidence they claim. My biggest counter would be that we have found ancient manuscripts and all of them back the modern Christian Bible and not the Book of Mormon. Given that they believe the corruption occured after those manuscripts were created, it's an indefensible position for them.

Of course it’s always the ones that are hyper religious telling you what to do, while his son exposes himself on campus. We had a serial rapist guy who raped college students while he himself was a football player involved with religious groups on campus, later became a baptist minister, who continued to rape in our city and state without getting caught, moved to Texas where he terrorized their state until they caught him. I knew the girl he married, she was such a sweet, kind, very pretty girl, I am sure she was devastated since she had small kids with him. He ruined her and the kids lives too. He was 28 I think and probably had been raping since his early early teens. His father was very esteemed by the congregation, I even heard their minster address him in a sermon which was highly unusual. He used to cry and talk to his victims after terrorizing them, I guess in his crazy mind he thought they would forgive him.

I feel like I'm still holding on idk I kind of want to see what happens if I get a new patriarchal blessing and see if it's all bs. Honestly, I think I'm just sad that I've realized something I didn't want to believe and this is like a hopeless hail mary to be back to full-believer.

I love the way he say “he’s a teenager or maybe early 20s” regarding Joseph & the treasure digging. As though, oh well he was just super young & like you can’t really hold someone responsible at that age. Bitch please, a very short time later Joseph was marrying chics younger than he was then. Oh but there was no sex right. On some level that sort of makes it worse & I know from our perspective we’re thinking, assault & gross old men, all true. Think about it from that culture though. Having babies was the most important thing for a woman & her only job, not just for Mormons but Christians in general. If he wasn’t having sex with them he was basically depriving them of their one true purpose, again I know this sounds crazy to us but I’ve listened to a lot of FLDS girls & they believe very similar to what these girls from the 1800’s would’ve thought.

Everyone in my 99% Mormon neighborhood said Mitt was the fulfillment of the White Horse Prophecy that apparently said something along the lines of a member of the church fulfilling the prophecy would come and save the U.S. Constitution that is “hanging by a thread.” And when I say everyone, I mean everyone and they were 100% certain that Mitt was going to win because Barrack Obama had caused the Constitution to be …. “hanging by a thread.” (I am not and never have been LDS).
