I have an old friend who has a Morgan and a Weismann (with E39 M5s V8). He says he's taken up exercising because he wants to drive his Morgan till he dies. Morgan owners are a special kind, a kind I respect a lot.

Well back in early 1960's here in N.W. Ohio, USA, a neighbor kid who lived with his divorced mom had a Morgan Plus 4 and his father a few blocks away drove a '62 Buick Special convertible in burgundy color, white interior and top, Buick 215" 4 bbl. carb. aluminum V8, 11:1, of 190 HP, 4 speed Saginaw manual tranny... we had no idea back then that Buick V8 would become Rover V8 and end up in Morgans... as a Plus 8...

Beautiful car, perfect for my lifestyle as an Architect !

I visited the factory when Peter Morgan was still around, I saw him there. Walking around the workshop within some lines painted on the floor, you could move around pretty freely. I remember quite a few BMW V8 parked on the floor and suddenly there where a loud sound and every person in the workshop disappeared. I was so full of impressions arriving at Morgan that I didn’t pay much attention to the short briefing where they told us to leave when the signal was heard. We where alone for a short movement and when outside the worker was sitting on the ground leaning to the wall eating lunch, one guy had sandwiches a bottle of milk and was reading Private magazine! Pretty weird. It’s was at the time one of the most hard core porn magazine on the market. The funny thing he was reading while working as well, when I entered one of the workshops he and a mate was reading the mag and when they noticed me they tossed the mag under the work surface and started working. Visiting MORGAN was such an experience, great fun.

Would be awesome if Carfection and specifically Alex, made a mini series to summarize the development of the upcoming engine and new model that will be replacing the Aero line! Please make it happen!!

I’ve got a Morgan 4/4, with a tiny 1600 engine in it, no suspension mods, original 1980s and you don’t need to go any faster, you can have just as much fun at 20 mph in it. In the Morgan, everyone waves at you and is courteous😁

Lets not get carried away, want a dragster ? By one in USA., way back had an MGA gutless but fun to drive around. especially in the cold winters.

I wanted an AeroMax and Supersport but I was told these were not legal for sale in the USA.

Sound. Come on guys. A vid dedicated to the glory that is the V8 and there's 3 half-hearted revs mixed so low they might as well not be there. Get a nice mic selection together, plug them into a few multitracks and document this aspect of driving. Tunnel runs, track passbys, onboards...you guys have prime access to the swansong of the internal combustion engine. Document it. The vision is great on Carfection, but let the audio candy take center stage sometimes. Carfection extras idea: 10 minute clips of dialogue-free VR 3D video and Ambisonic audio of a spirited drive around some fast backroads.

DE LO MEJOR.

1 Correction: The V8 in all but the first generation of Aero was the 4.7L BMW(367BHP) not the 4.4L BMW.

They should ask Lexus if they have some of their new 5 litre NA V8s laying around ;-)

AMEN to that my brother.

I hope they use an engine like Ford's Coyote V8. It would make logical sense since they're already using the Ford Cyclone V6 in some of their cars. Of course, Chevrolet LS/LT would be even smaller (due to its OHV design), but the LS/LT engine is everywhere as is, and would detract somewhat from the special nature of Morgan's cars. That said, I hope they don't stop using the V8. The day they do is the day Morgan dies.

Exactly my first thought. The LS3 that I have in my Chevrolet SS would be great in the Morgan, or a later version for better economy and even more power.

@@HaYouDontSay, well, they could pull a Lotus and use one of Toyota/Lexus Yamaha-engineered V8s. The 5.0l V8 Lexus makes is an incredibly powerful, fuel efficient, and reliable option. However, it probably wouldn't be the most cost effective. Hyundai/Kia also makes the slightly less impressive 5.0l Tau V8, but I don't think a mass-produced Korean V8 would suit the British luxury vibe. Nissan also makes several NA V8s, but their V8s doesn't really stand out in any particular fashion and are generally outperformed by all of the aforementioned engines in a variety of matrices. Then there's the Ford Coyote/Voodoo, Chrylser/Dodge Hemi, and GM LS/LT, but they hardly need an introduction. Needless to say, there's A LOT of naturally aspirated V8s still in production. I didn't even get to turbocharged V8s like Audi, Porsche, AMG (which is also included in Aston Martin), BMW, Maserati, Ferrari, McLaren, et al., as well as supercharged V8s (such as JLR group, Chevrolet, and Dodge/Chrysler).

@@flyingphoenix113 to keep the naturally aspirated v8 alive, they would have to partner with Ford, FCA or Chevy. Let's be real, they are the only 3 companies that will keep the V8 alive for the foreseeable future. Chevy and Ford make more sense because they already sell V8 cars in Europe, so it wouldn't be hard for them to keep them coming in Europe, and parts would be cheaper and reliability higher. BMW v8s aren't known for being both powerful and reliable. We haven't even talked about potential mods for either. Personally I would go Chevy for the V8 as it is physically smaller and lighter, so it would be easier for them to package

@André, because, arguably, those "Yankee" engines are better in every relevant measure. They are lighter, more reliable, more compact, easier to service, and last longer. They lose out in some niche categories like CO2 emissions and horsepower per litre, but neither of those are relevant for a performance car unless you are somehow restricted on displacement. Heck, the Yanks even win on fuel economy, I'm afraid (with the 6.2l LT1 being able to achieve 30 mpg highway in the US, or 36 highway mpg in the UK.)

i wonder if they'd ever try taking the turbos off of an AMG Mercedes engine and customize that a bit with ITB's and higher compression to make up for the lack of boost... if not, the Ford Coyote engine is likely the best choice out there as a spiritual successor.

It's a shame the E90/92 BMW M3 4.0 liter V8 didn't find its way into one of these. Reeeevvvvssss!

For the style of car a Morgan is the addition of supercharger whine is the way to go, chittering turbos not so much.

The Ford DOHC V8 from the Mustang isn't far off from the BMW V8. It will be in production for a long time and are easily available already emissions certified.

The Americans still produce naturally aspirated V8s. Maybe something like an LS, a Coyote or a Hemi might end up under the bonnet of these cars. Probably an LS, since its physically small and the alloy versions are pretty light

When we think of V8, we think of Rover.

Best thing for Morgan, is to go back to where it started. Go to GM, ask for use of their L83 5.3L OHV V8. 355hp and 383lb/ft of torque should be enough for it.

Throwback to when carfection actually used one of their best presenters, not trying to sound picky but without Alex I haven't enjoyed this channels videos at all really. Bring him back already!

Why not turn to Jaguar? They have a quite nice 5.0 Supercharged V8 that makes all the right noises and has the power to boot

They should be powered by chevy LS going forward.

That's the smart choice, but a lot of people say it's the boring choice, too; however, those kind of comments come from people who have never driven an LS - anything but boring.

An LT1 would do just fine.

i was having fun watching the video until.....that orangy car with black grill with regular looking silver slotted screw......why not just use black screw so they will not be too visible that they are just regular slotted screws......or its ok to have a contrasting color with the black grill provided they are nice looking special screws

Prefer the Series iv Aero 8 as no strugle with the hood and hood bars!

Id love to see a straight 6 performance, wood chasis car with a tesla battery

I doubt the chassis could handle the weight of the battery. And as Morgan have yet to reach the 21st century I doubt their customers are bothered.

AC designed and built the Cobra to to Shelby's requests. The Cobra in an English sports car with an American engine and gearbox.

I did that in '79 with my Plus 8. Much more competitive in autocross!

A Morgan with a Hellcat engine would be the best sports car ever!

In the mid 2000s something wonderful happened, Morgan go even uglier
