Yugiboomer here. For my other Yugiboomer friend, Speed Duel is the only format we play. My only “issue” is the 3 zones and 4000LP. I don’t know why they don’t just have it at 5 zones and 8000LP to make it more like “real” Yugioh with Speed Duel (-level) cards, but my friend and I play it like that sometimes.

Exactly, it's the quite literally "dumbed down" rules that makes it not enjoyable. Don't forget you also get a shrunk deck and hand to play. Also I don't like the Skill cards. I actually taught my nephew to play with my speed duel box but with regular rules and it was a lot of fun, but obviously there won't be a community for it if the rules are so diluted.

@@Gatitasecsii Yeah, I’m not a big fan of skill cards either. I want to be able to play full/real Yugioh, but at a much lower power level/speed than modern. I’ve been considering trying Edison, but Speed Duel has the convenience of having specific Speed Duel decks as opposed to the more mixed Edison-legal decks.

@@LCDigital92 i dont know how to explain this, but in ocg old format are not supported generally not popular, not even worth it to even held a local around it, and as we know that tcg doesnt control the card pool and releases its ocg japan does, yugioh is japanese game and they will only prioritize japanese. your only hopes is one, convince ocg players to design a format based on old format using newer products, if there is no demand from japan then no luck.

@@r3zaful I’m fine doing Speed Duel with my friend as my only Yugioh format. I started playing Flesh and Blood about a year ago and I absolutely love it, so I’m not really concerned with whatever’s happening with Yugioh.

So the digital game with basically free cards is willing to ban/limit cards that are expensive af in paper? And the tcg doesn't want to ban the expensive cards that are highly sought after? Weird, what a silly world we live in.

Speed duel would be better if Locals would hold tournaments. Mine specifically does not and I have no other people to play against therefore I do not play Speed Duel. We need more places to play!

It would be better if the rules weren't dumbed down. I like that the cards have their own category so anyone playing would know if a card belongs in speed duel, but the "speed" part of it makes it too dumb honestly. Especially the skill cards, but also the reduced sizes for everything else.

@@Cr4z3d mm no, I don't think the problem was the life points nor the deck size nor the hand size nor the field size. No, the problem was already resolved with the card pool not including broken extra deck monsters or monsters with 2+ effects. Of course there are some monsters with 2+ effects but they're appropriately harder to summon.

you actually can recreate playground yugioh. its called a cube and cube drafting, maybe look into it considering the back stock of cards you guys have.

The only issue I see with there being a Fusion symbol is that about a third of the Fusion spells are Quick-Play. Konami has never put 2 symbols on a card before but they would have to for Quick-Play Fusion spells and I don’t really see them doing that. Unless they combine the symbols for Quick-Play and Fusion spells which would also be a weird new thing

I could also see them treating the quick plays as only quick plays, not fusion spells in that case. We have spells and trap cards that can ritual summon without having the ritual spell symbol, so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary.

Wayne Grayson (Joey) is the current voice actor for Solomon Muto since Bonds Beyond Time. This is going to be a great character duel.

I can imagine that they haven't added a fusion symbol since some of them are quick-play spells and others are normal spells so then you'd need to have multiple symbols on a single card which would then start a trend of adding more and more symbols to denote every "keyword" that it could fall under or which effects can search it.

I feel like purting a symbol would need to basically redo alot of older cards so they have the symbol

Duel Links actually had a skill for months in the beginning that let you mulligan, and they had to nerf the skill 2-3 times over a year or so to prevent EVERY deck from using the skill.

Speed Duel is not what I'd want personally, I still want a full game, not one watered/dumbed down. Also, the moment I find out any game is using AI 'art' is when I'm completely dropping it.

In my personal opinion, while Konami did drop the ball for so long promoting Speed Duels I do think a reason in didn’t catch on is because of the type of “Yugiboomer.” Like if you want to relive the anime/manga then sure this product works but there’s the type of person that simply wishes nothing past 2005 existed. They are just gonna play Goat Format and not concern themselves with Speed Duels even if it makes anime decks like Dark Magician, Red-Eyes to Ojamas actually playable or perhaps viable.

Marvel Snap still has some bots prior to infinite ranking, not that many though. They used to have them post infinite, but not for quite some time now. You tend to get bots after losses at times.

I have a theory that SN-ash (Snake-Eye Ash) is getting this ultimate rare print but some other important card is getting banned. Look at Kashtira and Arise-Heart. Perhaps Flamberge banned and Wanted limited? Making the resource recursion weaker since you won't have 2 bodies back on the field.

Love the podcast you guys and thank you for being one of the channels that got me back into the game/Yugitube! This is my Thursday and/or Friday listen. To answer the question, Grandpa Muto is played by Maddie Blaustein (Meowth's original VA during the 4Kids Pokemon days). But Maddie passed away in 2008 and I think Wayne Grayson replaced her for some minor appearances? So they may have to use archived lines for Grandpa if they go the Maddie route, which would explain why they VA's aren't going to be at Nationals. But that's just a theory.

For the mulligan in yugioh question. What if only the player who goes second gets to mulligan. And it is send your whole hand back shuffle and redraw. That way it's still not a garuntee it will be a better hand

a Yugioh Lore Anime would be sooo good!

I may not be a top tier player so take my thoughts about Snake-Eye as a hot take but I think that the deck isn't as oppressive as Kashtira (full power) nor as ridiculous as Tearlaments (Full power) but it is certainly the best deck in the current format. I do not think a straight up ban is really needed. I want to see if the deck crumbles from having multiple cards limited. That was the deck retains it's playstyle or putting monsters in the backrow but might not have almost any grind game power anymore.

I absolutely would quit if the art was replaced with Ai generated images. It's not even a question. It would be an immediate and total loss of interest.

as someone who has a very strict budget but watches twitch daily, I only allow 2 subs at a time and while that 2 dollar a month increase isn't much, I have a lot of friends that sub to A LOT of streamers and it can add up. not even counting the people that gift a lot of subs to help support creators. it's a double edged sword imo.

yu gi oh needs a new duel monsters anime season. a journey when they are older, in their 20s/30s (like the playerbase) the problem is, i dont trust current konami to get it right.

KZread ads are so obnoxious now that I block them on principle. There was a time long ago when the ads were not baked into the video as a TV commercial and they were fine.

As a "Yugi-Boomer". Who has a Shining Sarcophagus, Budget Sky Striker, Hero and a few other budget decks. The reason why no one I know off buys Speed Duel products is simply because we HAVE almost all those old school cards. What my circle wants at least is a proper official format to USE the cards we already HAVE. Not buy completely new products. That being said, we DID buy singles of speed duel products of very rare cards with no reprints..... until they BANNED those cards in all other formats in the recent set. Which further depreciated the value of the already not very popular Speed Duel products

Then after half a year it will be, "limited ads" for the double subscription payment... then they add another tier of premium... then that gets limited ads... then an even higher tier of premium. I pay for youtube premium + google is still stealing my data so I don't want ads. I'm not trying to be rude and this doesn't apply to you guys in specific either way, but let's be real. As an adult the average youtube content is not worth consuming if I had to see a single ad. Literally not worth consuming even for free, how many people just put on some random stuff as background noise? I think a lot of people got used to easy-to-consume content fastfood, and now they are adding more and more barriers to it. Books are cheaper than ever, audio books are easily accessible, music streaming services don't have this level of adverts quite yet. There are many alternatives that people may or may not return to once it becomes too much of a hassle.

My best friend loves neopets, so i’ll be getting us starter decks so we can share our hobbies together! I can’t wait, i hope we have fun playing.

Yugioh is a game where Mulligans couldn't work. The game's cards were never printed under a rule set where Mulligans were legal or planned for. If or cards were not printed with such powerful effects, maybe, but it would be too late for that now.

It’s interesting people bring up speed duels and yugi boomers. Cuz they’re right, it would be w format to play, but konami talks so little about it. Like you can’t even buy speed or rush duel cards at target/walmart.

I think Speed Duels is mostly because the product is trying to capture a NEW audience and not old school duelist (who are begging for a new format at this point). A lot of people i know who played in the early 2000s already have all the old school cards we need. Why will we buy the same cards we already have? Makes no sense. Even worst is the fact that their now banning speed duel stuff in other formats. It makes those products even less worth it

Yugioh R needs to be an anime. Or an anime of each manga as a season. Like yugioh gx manga as season 1, yugioh 5ds manga as season 2, etc. because it will open up putting new characters in the video games. I'd love to play as koyo hibiki. Or dub all the subbed episodes of gx season 4 and 5ds etc.

Every modern player who says "yugiboomers just want playground yugioh" is being dishonest. As if we NEVER played actual yugioh for hundreds of hours? At the bare minimum, we played with the starter/structure decks (which came with the official rulebook), and played with the videogames like the World Championship series (which, again, HAVE THE OFFICIAL RULES AND NOT "PLAYGROUND YUGIOH").

thats not what they mean usually. its not about not having official rules its about the deck building approach and card selection. retro formats exist and the number one thing people have found is those formats are often much faster and had options for much more efficient deck building when considered again with 20 years of knowledge compared to even pro play at the time and especially compared to the average player

I'm what you would call a "yugiboomer". You do not speak for me, and have it so wrong about what i want. Speed duels is like having a sliver piece of your favorite desert and then you are cut off. Still hungry, just barely got a bit of flavor but no more than that. Im not going to tell you what i actually want, because i dont care about yugioh like i used to, anymore. I have all the old cards i want, and ive gotten into other games that i enjoy more than yugioh, so there is nothing that the companies behind yugioh can do to "revive" me as a player/collector. Ive made peace with yugioh not being for me anymore, and i wont crap on you guys for loving the current iteration of the game, but you dont understand where a "yugiboomer" like me is at or is coming from.

@@GeargianoXG my main game now is flesh and blood tcg. On the side i dabble with grand archive very casually, with no desire to invest in it much. I have quit yugioh, mtg, Keyforge, Digimon tcg, and pokemon tcg. I wasnt into all those at the same time, some over lapped but when i got out of yugioh and mtg in 2016 i was searching for a new card game to fill the hole and thats where i picked up Keyforge and Digimon for a while.

@@GeargianoXG no problem. I really encourage you to get into flesh and blood tcg. Maybe start on commoner or preconstructed blitz format because they are easier and cheaper formats to get into, then you work your way up to classic constructed or constructed blitz formats. Its not all perfect, the big problems with flesh and blood tcg are net deckers, cc elitism, and card prices can range from reasonable to absurd. Hence why commoner and precon formats are so important, especially at first.

"Yugiboomers" aren't lying. They just aren't interested in the current state of the game and even speed duels can't keep them interested. It's Konami's own fault. They'd rather keep the cycle of printing busted cards and then banning them and then repeating going as long as people keep buying the product rather than actually trying to balance the card game like they used to do back in the day. 🤷

I'd say it's at least a decent value if you watch a lot of KZread. The family plans are also underrated.

Happy pride everyone! I think that if Konami ever does full art cards that they will end up being the chase cards in less desirable products like reprint sets or the tins as a way to get people interested in them again.
