    I'm not ($99) sure if you ($99) happened to ($99) mention how ($99) much this lens costs ($99). Seriously now, I'm pretty impressed by TTArtisan's production. They make affordable lenses of more-than-decent quality. And that's always a plus in today's landscape (both new and used market). Great video as usual, Mark, and nice nice shots too! Cheers!

    As far as I'm concerned Mark, you could review a lens cap and it would still be a wonderful production and interesting. I just might be heading towards 'groupie' status. As for the lens, incredible value and well suited to APS-C and m4/3.

    Wonderful results for the ninety nine buck TT artisan 40mm macro lens and it's of a standard that claims class!! The pictures are stunning so to say!! I want some opinions about extension rings for macro photography, stills and videos, an inexpensive alternative (?) to such uses!! Do they really deliver as alternatives to expensive lenses?!! Great review, these cheaper Chinese lenses aren't trying to be ultra-high-end pro lenses and there's nothing wrong with that. They're basically the Helios-44's of the 2020's - affordable, well built, and achieve what they are designed to do.

    I’m planning on getting this for my A7RIV to scan negatives and I can’t find a reason why I wouldn’t. I have no problem using the crop mode, as it seems it doesn’t create any issues with vignetting, also 26mp is more than enough quality for what I’m seeking in a scan. Does anyone have any more info that could be helpful finalizing my decision😃!?!?

    Hey Mark, thanks again. i just picked this lens up to use on a gh6 for camera scanning of old negs. I haven't started yet, and I can't say I have much experience with macro lenses. However, I used to use repro-graphics lenses back in the day in the darkroom, and macro lens are largely the same flat-field idea. Here's my question: Since I am using it for neg repro, I want as sharp as I can get. I loved spending just $99 on this (Actually, Amazon had if for $91US!), but what am I losing by comparison to shooting the negs with, say, the Lumix 30/2.8 (which itself has some issues from being so short, I read), or some of the more expensive macros? Once I stop down to 5.6-8, I'm hard pressed to think there would be much difference. Plus, shooting this on a gh6, I'm already cropping out the corners from APS coverage, on the smaller MFT sensor. Of course, crop too much and you end up lowering lens resolution (line tests, etc.). Shooting negs on a gh6 will be interesting as the sensor size is small, but with the high resolution mode, it can deliver a gorgeous 100mp file (Yes, I know that is overkill and I can probably get down to the grain with 50mp, more or less.) Thanks!

  • @MarkHoltze

    @MarkHoltze

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yo! You’re not losing much really, mostly auto focus and other electronics that communicate with the camera system. Optically this lens is very capable especially at 5.6 and 8 where you would want to shoot these negs anyway.

    Which one better between this lens and takumar 50mm f4 macro?

  • @MarkHoltze

    @MarkHoltze

    2 жыл бұрын

    The 50 macro isn’t a 1:1 that I have so can’t really compare. A better comparison would be the Contax Zeiss macro 60 FF vs the 40 as 40 on an app-c is at least a similar field of view and both 1:1

  • @skazhenyj
    @skazhenyj2 жыл бұрын

    I think an average 24mp APS-C sensor would be much more demanding though, increasing the aberrations etc., etc. A7 s series cameras make things easier for most lenses. The difference is actually quite big.

  • @MarkHoltze

    @MarkHoltze

    2 жыл бұрын

    Maybe, but still have to look quite hard to find them given the price point, the optics and performance are actually quite strong. I've spent a load of time reviewing old lenses on the A7sii and lenses with moderate CA are evident in those high contrast shots. It's not even something you have to look that closely for, it's such a colour shift. When i upgraded to my S1H which has a higher MP count and use the same lenses as I tested on my Sony, CA etc still aren't more noticible. THe biggest differences is sharpness clarity especially at the edges. I should also mention I did but cut it out because felt redundant, there's no vignetting wide open as demonstrated in the images. Again the $99 price point for a lens that doesn't suffer from missing auto focus isn't bad. I've always thought the vintage SLR macro's performed well and were great optically, but the prices of those are going up as they become less common.
