Actually I'm honestly afraid now that M.P is done, Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett have passed on and John Stewart has sworn not to go back to TV I wont have any thought provoking comedy to enjoy anymore T_T Niel Gaimen usually fumbles the "comedy" part.

They're a lot taller these days. They e recovered from imperial serfdom, the Century of Humiliation, constant civil wars and invasions, famines, plagues, opium, the lot, and are much stronger for it. Amazing people.
What happened to "They only come up to your knees" - clearly sanitised for modern times.

My eyes watered a bit seeing Terry Jones (RIP)
@boudiccam4417

This was how he was diagnosed with dementia. This show. He had the worst time trying to remember lines and communicating. John Cleese actually walked off stage (comically calling Jones a doddering old fool,) on the Graham Norton Show. In true Python fashion they made jokes about it. Cleese did come back and pop his head up behind the big red couch. I don’t think Jones had been officially diagnosed yet, and other Python members as well as friends and family grew increasingly concerned . Publicly, the other members of Python made jokes about it when they were being interviewed prior to the shows. All of the above issues that led to his diagnosis happen leading up and over the course of to their final performances as a comedy group at the O2. Dementia is awful. You lose a person twice. I have the greatest empathy for people who knew Terry Jones.

Yes ! you are sort of correct! it says "I love China people. Are you good(ok)? Meet again!" "Are you good/ok?" is Chinese version of "how are you?" "Goodbye" in Chinese is literally "Meet again!" :)

@Proud康米 Thanks for the info. And I mean, who wouldn't love "Communism with Chinese characteristics"? Right! Great stuff. Well...maybe Song Jiang wouldn't be a fan, but Mao didn't figure this out until after he read the book 30 times on the Long March and then banned it, like all great dictators. 他年若得報冤讎,血染潯陽江口!
@seand4033
3 жыл бұрын
@Proud康米 Actually, most Chinese are upset with Song Jiang lol. Right? No one likes this ending. However, we know that the author was imprisoned and pressured to change the ending. For me, the end of the book is when they all gather together at Mt. Liang and plan to take over the entire country, overthrowing the totalitarians. That's the correct ending. And maybe one day, I will write it lol :) In the meantime, we have a problem. Both this country and China and others are all moving toward increased totalitarianism. And it is creating instability and uncessary headaches. Everyone needs to have a glass of wine and chill out lol. Maybe a little meditation. After, All Men Are Brothers, right?

good song, but not as funny as the original from the contractual obligation album- it was less censored, being from the 70s, and the stereotypes were more ridiculous and therefore funnier. it's sad they had to re-write this to cater to a vast majority of (mostly) westerners who feel it's their duty to take offence on behalf of everyone else. Still, great song, though!

I don't think this version was censored to please PC people. It's full of "cultural appropriation" and pisstakes, after all. I don't think the PC crowd would be happy. It's probably just a case of the lyrics changing to reflect the changes in stereotypes that we hold about Chinese people.

They didn't censor it, they just came up with new stereotypes to update the song that are just as un-PC in a funny way in different ways by saying China bought out America, they make cheap bootlegs of everything, their products suck and are poorly-made, they're still commies, and all the stereotypes of the old version aren't even true with the exceptions of ping-pong and go chess with the Chinese singers in on the whole thing. Plus they keep the part where their only reference to Chinese food are numbers off an imaginary menu at some fusion place in England, the same crappy reference-point that an American would have who has never been to China or even Chinatown for some real Chinese food. They do updates of "The Galaxy Song" every couple of years to keep it scientifically accurate in much the same vein, sacrificing some of the humor for accuracy, albeit humor is to be had in accuracy sometimes via commentary.
China is a pretty horrible place but I love this song
