Eric Idle never gets enough credit for Python’s success. He wrote most of these songs. He hired the other guys to be on HIS kids tv show, creating Python. He came up with the idea for Life of Brian. Talked George Harrison into financing it. He talked the other Python into doing the stage shows and reunions and he talked PBS into playing their show on American tv. He wrote and Produced Spamalot , which kept them alive in the theater. He is the most significant of all of them.

Brave Sir Robin ran away, bravely ran away, away. When danger reared its ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled, brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin.

A friend of our family bravely fought bone cancer for 18 months before it finally took him. He had 'Bright side of life' played at his funeral. I've been to plenty of funerals where everyone sobs their hearts out, but I've only been to one where we laughed a lot. Tony was a funny guy and so it was only fitting that he should go out with songs that make you laugh.

My first Monty python experience was the holy grail, I thought it was fantastic. I thought this series had so much potential to make people laugh. Didn't realize how popular Monty python was until now, which just makes my day.

I'd never heard of them until the Holy Grail movie came out in '75, but they'd just started showing Flying Circus on KERA in Dallas.-the first time they were on tv in America. We never missed the show after that. They were also showing some other British comedies at that time-The Goodies and Ripping Yarns are the only ones I recall the names of. Loved those shows.

Every Sperm is Sacred was wholly Palin and Jones - they used up most of the budget for The Meaning of Life in their big musical number. I think they also wrote the Lumberjack Song. But yes, Eric Idle was generally the most musically gifted of the official members and performed the majority of the songs, and Neil Innes contributed a lot behind the scenes (and in the case of Sir Robin's minstrel, on screen) for the TV series, movies, albums and live shows.

Honestly, I think The Knights of the Round Table will always be my favourite.

So glad to hear Eric THe Half A Bee even as a honourable mention. Number 1 was always a given

Who else can't help but whistle the tune when they hear: "Always look on the briiiiight side of life"

Years ago, the Boston Gay Men's Chorus sang "Every Sperm Is Sacred" during one of their big concerts. They perpetuated it with flag waving, each adorned with smiling sperms, and everyone marching in unison. All in all, it brought down the house. Thank you, Monty Python.

Once I clicked on this, I had to listen to the end because it is jaw-droppingly amazing how the narration wrings every last drop of humor out of these songs.

They sang Always look at the bright side of life at my dads funeral, Love the song.

I couldn't help but whistle with the last song haha

Neil Innes didn't even get a mention. Elvis loved his Brave Sir Robin song, also Neil was in quite a few of these clips.

I'm so glad my mum introduced me into python. I'm 14 now and have been watching it since I was 9 (don't critisice she didn't let me watch the extra bad things) I was lucky enough to go to the live show and it's one of the best things ever.

Whenever my best mates come over we nearly always watch Monty Python, Austin Powers, Shrek 1 or Rocky Horror

A long time friend and I went over to see the One Down, Five To Go shows at the 02 in London, back in 2014. The two of us had also seen all the Pythons live in 1980 at the Hollywood Bowl, the shows which were released in film format sometime after. Sadly, it's two down and four to go now. RIP Graham and Terry.

How could they not have put the monks chant from the holy grail on here. "Pies lesu domine dona eis requiem." (Headbang)

"Sit on My Face" and the Philosopher's Song should both be higher, I mean, Spam? It's a catchy chant, but no where near as clever as those two.

I had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful Terry Jones in person in Funchal, Madeira. He was there for the local film festival and everyone loved him.

Sit on my Face and The Lumberjack Song was performed at The Concert for George in 2002, a year after George Harrison passed away, and who funded Life of Brian, which made Always Look on the Bright Side of Life the number one song.

It's my favourite. Witty and humourous, thought-provoking and lighthearted.

My 2 favorite songs are: "The Knight's of the Round Table" and "Look on the Bright Side of Life".

Fun tidbit: Sit On My Face was also performed at George Harrison’s tribute concert. Tom Hanks then joined them for The Lumberjack Song.

One thing I loved is how they managed to stick in as much actual information as they could in some of their stuff. Besides the universe song, the Philosophers song is a list of the most prominent ones of all time. Even the Cheese shop sketch (not in this list) mentions most of the cheeses around the world.

Bugger off, I'm full.

I have had the Galaxy song completely memorized ever since being a child. XD Only song I can sing completely from memory start to finish.

All the bright sides of life would have ceased to exist if this list ended up with a different #1 pick! Really!

The theme to "Life of Brian" was sung by Shirley Bassey, famous for the title track to "Goldfinger"!

The one truly criminal omission from this list is "I Bet You They Won't Play This Song on the Radio." I also would have included the title song from Meaning of Life. But overall an excellent and well thought out list!

The meaning of life intro is my second favorite, it wasn't even featured.

The O2 performance was magical...

All these later still relevant, topical and on the money. Mandatory watching in 2020. The pythons would have a field day with what is happening circa 2020.

WatchMojo, did you ever check your faces, or even the credits at the end of the films? Neil Innes (the 7th Python) wrote a large amount of the music in the films.
