Yes it's like real life, but the timing has to be careful, otherwise the mentioner gets ejected from the meeting and cancelled forever. The knack to getting a silly organisation to delete a project or position statement or itself is "reading the room", so as to time the proposal when most people realise it is silly but haven't dared to defy the consensus. The more annual reviews I attend on /providing trans toilets/building affordable houses/protecting vulnerable/abolishing Evil/Saving The Planet/" the more I get flashbacks to this sketch, which I first saw in my teens.

To any other enthusiasts of putting things on top of other things, you may be interested in a new invention known as the "cat." The "cat," in addition to being the perfect size and shape to be placed on top of a variety of other things, will automatically place ITSELF on top of other things without any external assistance or prompting.

Sir, I must object in the strongest possible terms. After taking your advice and acquiring a "cat" although it does on a regular basis, place ITSELF on top of other things, for example chairs, tables bedding etc. It seems to like nothing more than to knock other things off. Yours faithfully. Ivor Bigbotty.

I would also like to point out that Mr. Chapman's statement cannot be true: everything that he saw must, at the very least, have been on top of the Earth (more specifically the Earth's crust), unless one is to suppose that the Earth is NOT a "thing!" Personally, I cannot imagine anything more err... "thingy" than the Earth!

Mr Bigbotty, I say, maybe you just made the unfortunate decision of acquiring the wrong model? I have been putting things on top of other things for years, and by means of pursuing this little passion of mine I have also bought a “cat”. And I really must say that it has been a tremendous success. My model does not only place ITSELF on top of other things without any assistance at all, but also puts dozens and hundreds of things (called “hairs”) on top of the things she had put herself on top of previously. I strongly recommend one of these types for future acquirements. Yours etc. etc.

The potential drawback of the "cat" however, is that while it likes to be put and put itself on top of other things. It also has a tendency to enjoy being IN things or under things. Which I fear is the antithesis of the whole Society.

I lost my patience at one job, and told management I would no longer attend meetings in which all the decisions had already been made by people that had no idea what they were doing, while ignoring us in the trenches who did. For some reason they never disciplined me, and at least two more people stopped attending the meetings, which were later done away with. Personally, I think it was a bit rash to simply decide that this whole thing is a bit silly, just because some members maybe didn't have the same sense of dedication and love of traditions as the rest of the Society For Putting Things On Top Of Other Things. But on the other hand, I understand that not everyone has the same options as their circumstances are different, and so they might face unreasonable challenges. So, what I would suggest they should've done, was simply make a merger with the Society For Putting Things Next To Each Other - that way they wouldn't have things out of order just because it's bloody difficult to put puddings on top of pyramids, or jellyfish on top of flagpoles, and thus they could've continued on for a very long time.

But, by placing one thing on top of another, have you not just placed some beneath, creating one large conglomerate of a single thing with nothing upon it.... You can have a man. You can have a hat. Once the hat is put a top the man, it instantly becomes a hatted man, which we all can agree would require a thing to be placed on top... Perhaps a button, or a feather, maybe a very tiny pebble... I site the precedent of Yankee Doodle, who was on a pony, under a hat, that had a feather on top and also not,... existing between dimentions neither on top or bellow anything as both macaroni and feather until it's definitely placed by Mr. Doodle.
