I agree, this is the first review in years I've heard where they actually spoke in depth about mechanics and gameplay rather than feelings. Almost felt like an old fashioned review, which is great.

Exactly. Regardless of score, the important thing is that he evaluated the game with objectivity and depth, a principle that is now rarely upheld by most game reviewers. Back in the day, the only reviewer(s) I trusted to be honest and fair were the dudes from gametrailers (mostly the duo Ben Moore and Brandon Jones). Even though GT already shut down, I am glad the two remained working together and are now on easyallies here on YT. Speaking of which, I can't wait for their review on this game. The last MH I played was the 2nd one on PSP. Sadly, I need to wait for the PC port...

He is clever, it was a phrase used by EA to defend the decision to make unlocking heroes expensive in Battlefront 2, claiming it was to provide players 'a sense of pride and accomplishment', when everyone knew it was to push players to buy microtransactions. Monster Hunter World shows the correct way of doing it: by creating deep and compelling gameplay for players to master and overcome the game's challenges.

World/iceborne has a fantastically welcoming community too and we love to see and hunt with new hunters, it's over 3 years later and this awesome game is still going strong with a healthy player base. Bro, this is no doubt one of the best video games. Not only does it take more than 300 hours to kill all the monsters, but those hours will give you such a sense of pride and accomplishment. And there’s so much variety and weapons in the game that it’s hard to get bored by playing it.

I will forever hate the fact that this, Dragon Ball Fighterz, and Dissidia Final Fantasy NT come out so close together, with this and Dragon Ball Fighterz coming out on the same day. But man 2018 seems to be packed with a slew of good games just like last year.

Messenger But that's not to say it's not worth just playing it to play and not to finish. The most fun I've ever had in a MH game was just taking down monsters over and over with my friends to finally get a complete badass armor set or new weapon. The sense of satisfaction from getting the gear you want 100% outweighs the feeling of beating a game in my opinion.

But anyway, the lack of switch port is cause the 4 year development.the switch took capcom by surprise, they will not rush the game to get a bad port, so just the time will talk.

As a long time monster hunter veteran I am super excited about the game finally coming to a console with power behind it, monster hunter has suffered from poor decision making for way too long, I'm glad the game gets its chance to truly shine on a console with the power to back up the beautiful world and creatures all monster hunter veterans know and love.

Just started playing this because of Game Pass. This is the best IGN review I’ve ever seen. Objective, knowledgeable, clearly already a fan of the series but has also put enough hours in already to properly review the subject matter. This is what all reviews should be like! Well played Sir, whoever you are. I salute you as a rose among thorns! 👍🏼🙌🏽✅

Love this game. It is the perfect embodiment of what a growing game should be. It is not a "games as a service" experience (per se) since other games with such a title usually implement micro-transactions and are released with minimal content (like the insults called No Man's Sky and Sea of Thieves). This game was worth the $60 asking price (having enough content for a 100+ hour playthrough for me), and Capcom keeps rolling out new content for it's players, to interact with new monsters and to earn more unique crossover skins/armor. I still have yet to break 200+ hours, but I recently came back to the game after taking a break and fell in love with it all over again.

After 10 years of playing Monster Hunter, I'm so happy this game is finally taking off in the west.

The best things is the new bow controls. I've been maining be and great sword since freedom unite but the bow controlls always were weird here in world im yet to switch to g.s. its an amazing thing thank you capcom :D

Fantastic game. I spent almost 8 hours on my first stint playing. It's hard to put down. I just wish the online component were more intuitive. It's kinds of tricky getting into a gameplay session with say, your wife, who would like to play with you.

One of the better reviews I've seen from IGN in a long time. The reviewer, Joe Skrebels, has done a wonderful job. IGN should let him do reviews for all the big games at least, if not for all the games.

Admyr 6 if you have a 4k HDR set up game files are larger because there is more data. The higher the quality the bigger the file size. I think 14gb is standard. Which is still amazing for this game.

Duke Nukem actually cinematic cutscenes take a lot of space, thats why single player mode have more size than multiplayer mode in game like cod and battlefield

Well deserved, MH always have their flaws but it is one of the best game franchises that keeps fan loyal and keep enjoying the series because it simply NEVER let down (been from MHFU) and keep improving the game. I got over 200 hours in this game so far, and still looking forward to the PC release so I can play with my PC friends. Even though my PS4 buddies has moved on, I'm still having a blast playing on my own.

9.5? This is great. I'm glad reviewers are seeing how truly great the franchise is. Played the three betas and defeated all of the monsters dozens of times, so I can't wait for this.

I'm also a newcomer to the series. When I started I realized that if you have experience with soulsborne games the adjustment is not that big. I can say I have experience cuz I platinumed Bloodborne. Lol. Anyway. I LOVE the grind here. It's not the boring type. The combat is amazing as well. You can't button mash here and that's great! Grinding here has a purpose and that feeling of completing a set for you and your pet is just rewarding! The world feels alive. Spent a lot of time just exploring and watching those monsters go at it. I love that everytime there is a new land I can explore I have a sense of excitement and fear that I'm gonna face new types of monsters. This game just keeps on giving. Haven't even finished it yet because I want to experience everything this game has to offer. This is a 10/10 for me. Would recommend to everyone except those who really can't GIT GUD. Great job capcom! :)

Don’t lie. The only reason why you hunt monsters in Monster Hunter are to make various armor sets for your palico. The whole game is a fashion show in disguise!!

Remember back then, when the first few Monster Hunter games came out and reviewers were always harsh on them and gave them lackluster ratings? XD In all honesty, though, I'm not a big Monster Hunter fan, (Played Freedom Unite, 3 Ultimate, and Generations, but not a whole lot of any one of them) but I'm pleased as punch to see the series hit it's stride and evolve to what it is now--both in gameplay and fandom.

i hage never played monster hunter, i want to though, it seems like a lot of fun and a challenge but honestly, i feel like what draws me in the most is the monsters like honestly i feel like i could just walk around the world not fighting anything and just watch the monsters and still enjoy the game a lot

If any newcomers think the game maybe too complicated for you, try Toukiden 2 first, it's a great game to get your feet wet into the monster hunter games.

Just picked this up at gamestop, and I've never played any capcom games and I'm curious but also hesitant I need some info about the game

THE BEST GAME TO HAVE BEEN RELEASED IN A VERY LONG TIME. I have 0 complaints. Just when I was about to give up on gaming because most games out now weren't entertaining, I found this gem. This isn't an exaggeration. The only people that may not like the game are PVP'ers but if you enjoy co-op pve and beautiful graphics with an entertaining story line, this is your game guys. 100/10.

How nice it is to have the Japanese gaming industry back and firing on all cylinders. First Atlus, then Nintendo, now Capcom, soon Namco and Square.

MR.KKIP and your point is? the guy did mentioned "SOON Namco and Square" so just because its not gonna be released any time soon it doesnt change the fact that the japanese video game industry is back on its track. although FF7 remake could be relasing somewhere in 2019 but we still got kingdom hearts 3 in 2018

ff7 remake in 2019... Are you drunk? It most likely is gonna release somewhere around 2021 because they are REMAKING it from scratch. It's also gonna get released in 3 seperate games and that will most likely cause it to finish releasing completely in 2024ish. Also... Don't you know how much kingdom hearts 3 got delayed? Hajime is still in the development program so it most likely is gonna take another year or 2. So ehm I don't see how that makes the releases anytime soon.

Can’t wait to get this game. Also does this game actually have a pause button because the beta did not have one.

I'm considering getting this. Are there any cool poison weapons/armor? And are there whips?

... Dude. There’s a million and one videos that show EVERY weapon type in the game. We knew all of them over a year before they came out. ... But yes, there is poison.

I really want to get into the series, I played the brief demo on switch but couldn't get enough time into it and explanation was crap on the trial. Thinking about picking it up as a ongoing game and something to patch up the wound zelda breath of the wild left me with after 145+ hours. Any advice people???

If youre thinking of getting MHGU for the switch then expect a vastly different experience from world.

Hey i just downloaded this when i got off work still downloading but i would your advice on an excellent weapon starters

After a week and a 100+hours of gameplay, I can easily say this is a contender for (if not) GOTY.

if you seriously have time to spend 100 hours on a game in a week than you should look at getting into streaming. With that kind of time invested on gaming you could grow an audience and make very good money if you are dedicated enough.

Play from monster hunter 1 to monster hunter world ( some season have pass ) World map is truly amazing when get chasing.. ^_¡ hope Next season with More story in game and able to DIY your partner ( Kitty was ok, But human hunter if can ) than will be perfect >~

How's the mulitplayer? Also single vs multiplayer, is there any difference?

I absolutely loved Witcher 3 but I’m a monster hunter / RPG noob , would I enjoy this game? Really wanna check it out

ITS DLOWE BABY If you like deep combat mechanics that makes you feel like you're getting better, and (imo) one of the only fun grinds out there, you'll like it. I believe this game has a place for everyone, you just have to be willing to learn it and keep up. It'll seem slow and clunky at first, but over time you'll adapt and find it's one of the most robust action games out there. Just don't expect it to be easy.

Yeah MH is far more about combat and your skills, far less about story and overworld.

This is my 1st monster Hunter game and this review gave me goosebumps I can't wait ❤

I’ve only played the one on switch and didn’t really like it. Is this one a lot different from that one? I just wasn’t crazy about the controls. I wanna try this one though

I honestly enjoyed this game a lot and if you’re in your win is extremely hard if you are on your own but with friends it is extremely fun with friends.

Very nice, though i will be waiting for the PC version. Got so many games to play right noelw, i dont see me buying another game for months. Better visuals, smd performance, and mayyybe mod support is something i will wait fir too.

It sounded more like a comparison with the previous version (which I had personally never heard about) instead of a full review. Yes, he touched on the visuals (which aren't that great for 2018 IMO) and some gaming aspects but far too often it was about how this game compares to its predecessor.

I have never heard of this game up until now and i’m humongous fan of mmrpg games as he mentioned to this game to be .I will have a blast playing this games .Does the game also have many endless lores ?I mean after your done with the quests isn’t there something at end to look forward to ?

Monster hunter isn't really about lore or narrative for that matter. It's mostly just really fun gameplay. But the endgame is mainly getting decorations to perfect your builds for weapons or against monsters. I have 500+ hours on this game and I got it last November

I'm ready to "fake sick" just to go home and play. I am very excited about this game.

I am so happy this series became what I always knew it could have been. Thank you capcom for bringing one of my favorite series to an entire new audience and making it accessible to almost everyone! I remember the reactions i had way back when, when I saw these monsters for the first time and now it brings me so much joy seeing all these new players reacting the same way I did so long ago!

August 9 boys! Time to juice up your PC and get that 60fps goodness (or hopefully 120) at absolute max settings

I got 3 more questions: 1. Correct me, if Im wrong. But it's never a good choice to mount a monster with the hammer right? I can only deal 1 damage per hit because my hunter only strikes with his knife. 2. Why would anyone use the LBG over the HBG? Isn't the HBG like almost in every case the overall better weapon? 3. Also how do I increase my Hunter rank? Only with investigations? Thanks in advance.

well 1. I don't know about 2. well, the name describes it all, the LBG is very light, your faster and it'll be easier to dodge, but you'll have less damage, the HBG is the opposite, more damage, less mobility 3. Just do the quest in the rank, you'll progress eventually

This was actually a really well written, honest review for IGN.

Don't worry switchers, capcom engine (MTF) is quite good in scalling down to support lower devices.

Never played MH but I'm thinking of getting this game after playing the beta. Would a newcomer have fun with this game?

It is like if you took all the boss battles from Dark Souls and made that a game. The kinect weapons are the most fun to use but tricky!
