I still remember the first time I had a team of randoms and we pulled a perfect combo. It was Teostra, had a Hunting Horn giving us all buffs, Dual Blade guy did that beyblade spin down his spine, cut off the tail. Longsword started a combo which launched me and my insect glaive into the air, I had all three buffs on and did the spinning drop attack at the same time the longsword finished his combo for an absolutely beautiful kill. The point of all the weapons being in game hit me right about then.

He never really said it in the video but the light bowgun and heavy bowgun are really different. Light is made for a mostly support role, with its quick shots you can constantly heal/shield/damage boost allies or poison/paralyze/sleep/track the monster. It doesnt do much damage but thats because its mostly a support weapon. Heavy is a high damage weapon, (not only when your wryvern is up!) if you constantly use bullets effective against the monster type you WILL be one of the highest dps in your team, the bullets are slow so you cant prioritize supporting the team and sleep/paralyze bullets are kind of a waste due to your shot speed) but its high damage from range more then makes up for it. Also heavy bowgun in this game can equip a shield apparently so your not just a sitting target...

Yes and no. I'm a hammer main veteran (been since mh3u) and if I could explain what the hammer's playstyle is, it's like baby's first greatsword. Both require a lot of knowledge of the monster and the ability to read that information to maximize the damage potential, but the hammer is a lot easier and forgiving (in some aspects) for that imo. But being able to read the monster and punishing it with a massive blow to the skull is oh so satisfying. 10/10 would bang again lmao.

Fred Mendenhall . As someone who has used all 14 weapons. 12 weapons from freedom series to 3u and 14 from 4u- generations, the info for these weapons are a little first of all bias and second of all the actual conditions for these weapons weren’t even discussed properly.basically the info you got out of this video is what you’ll get out of just watching the trailer and that’s extremely misleading. He talks about the weapons on a scale of which weapon type does more damage and if you played mh before information like that is extremely misleading. Basically if that chart was real every weapon would have the exact line going straight across because every weapon type is balanced out. Because every weapon type has a set motion value due to the size of each weapon some types have higher dps than others so their values may be smaller. If you want to know what type of weapon is good for you don’t look at the stats look at what it can do and find the techniques in them I suggest looking at gaijin hunters videos on the 14 weapons. He has covered actual tutorials on each weapon on different each game release

  • @fredmendenhall11

Actually that's exactly what I was using this video for. I am completely new to the series. I don't understand how the move sets and playstyle works with the weapons and I was curious about some of the way these move sets work and how they might have a similar style gameplay or move-set wise to a game that is outside the MH series that I might have a bit more experience with. Using that information helped me to look at two different weapons that I was thinking I might use in this game. The sword and shield because its the Noob friendly weapon and then I was looking at something maybe for Range...and I settled on the bow. After starting the game last night and trying a number of different weapons...the video was correct in helping me determine that my two play types are going to revolve around these weapons at first. I really enjoined the little bit I got to play last night before going to bed and I am looking forward to having the whole weekend with it after I get off work today.

Fantastic video, very helpful for the indecisive type like me! Seemed you were challenged with the Insect Glaive analogy which makes sense XD. For me, it reminded me most of the more 'jump-centric' characters from the 'Tales of' RPG series. Like Milla, Judith, or Regal. Maybe a niche series but it's still one of my favorites haha. Insect Glaive in-game description seemed super complicated so I avoided it, but you made it look super fun! I think I'll just dive in and see how I enjoy it.

There are two different play styles with the Insect Glaive. One is the Aerial style which has the Hunter being in the air for almost all of the fight except jumping back up or using the sharpener or other ability (I know they aren’t really abilities, I just couldn’t really think of a better name), and the other is the Ground style which has the Hunter being on the ground for almost all of the fight and only being in the air to mount a monster

Awesome vid. Already sent it to all of my friends! (Just one thing) The dual blades don’t use low damaging attacks to build up to their demon mode, like you described. Demon mode is always available. Using it drains stamina, but fills up a “demon gauge” with successful hits. When the demon gauge is filled, you enter archdemon mode. In this mode you use your normal move set, but have access to some of your demon mode moves without the stamina drain.

You forget to mention that the Gunlance excels in breaking monster parts, potentially more so than any other weapons because its shelling attacks deal more raw damage that overcomes monsters' defenses. Other than that this video is hella awesome! I sent this to some newbie friends who are joining me later this week.

0ptimystic breaking monster parts as in making them unusable?

Mark Rothermel Noooooo. When you're fighting monsters, certain parts of them are breakable. Tails, claws, antennae, scales and so on. You want to break those to get a chance at more rare monster parts for upgrades.

Mark Rothermel XD totally cool. Not a problem. I hope you enjoy it if you pick it up. The rest of the series has a steep learning curvem this one still does but it's way more accessible. Just know you're gonna have to put some time in before it clicks.

I was waiting for the Insect Glaive, but you hit the nail on the head. Dragons dogma's mounting was fun as hell, and IG gave me a bit of that.

I mained insect glaive all throughout mh4, I'm really happy with the changes they made because insect glaive for anything before highrank was almost unusable because of the kinsect evolve system. The insect glaive is focused all of the kinsect so if your struggling with the IG then try changing up your kinsect and see if you want a faster one, stronger one, longer range one, etc.

SnS isn't too bad for that either. The whole "Up ledges/off ledges" trick is very good in a lot of situations, and the new charging jump attack is consistently useful as well.
