I lived not too far from that mall when i was a kid. We went oftenbit one time it was all fenced off so ya couldnt see what was going on. We found out later that they were filming "a" movie there, then found out it was THIS movie. It had a great record shop too

After watching this vid I decided to watch Dawn of the Dead, someone said why are they coming to the mall, the response was that it's what they used to do, the mall was an important place in their lives, that was a good answer

The film was a great advert for the mall because the people turned the storeroom into a really cool house with the furniture, plants and TV set that came from the mall stores, and they had loads of fun playing the retro computer games

Ray… we lived on this side of Pittsburgh for a few years and used to shop here. Thanks for posting! Side piece of info for you: another piece of this property that is the same from the movie is the rear two level entrance and the hill where the bikers came down from, also the same hill when the trucks came down to block that rear entrance. Most KZreadrs never capture that hill and the back out parcel. The out parcel building near the hill originally had an A&P grocery in the movie.

I saw this in theater when it came out in the 70's. I was blown away because I had never seen anything like it before. Back than the camera always cut away from the violence or minimized it, but here it was graphicly shown. People weren't used to seeing that back then. I would never have thought it would become so famous.

It's great to see them setting up a museum of the movie that was filmed there. More movie malls should've done the same. Just maybe it would've helped save them, or at least prolong their life a little bit more.

I agree. The malls where Stranger Things was filmed should be reopened as a tourist attraction and the mall where Back to the Future was filmed is a dead mall and the props are located in dead hallways.

Another movie with a mall used is a crappy 80s movie called Chopping Mall. It was a couple of mall employees that stay behind after closing and the robot security goes haywire after an electrical storm or something. It's been a long time since I saw it (I was a kid) so I don't remember all the details.

I live roughly 20-25 mins away from it. I have to look at the wall every time I'm there. Almost always park on the BestBuy side or the side with the wall. lol The Zombie walk is also a big thin that happens at the mall. Mind Hunter was also filmed in Pittsburgh Area. You were right. Some of it in Apollo PA, Vandergrift Area and a few more. They had the road I use to get to work closed while they filmed in the Diner in Apollo.

The gun store was actually shot somewhere else because there wasn't an actual gun store at the mall. The loading docks should be visible from the outside of the building.

@@RayOutThere Ah that's interesting to know, wonder where the gun store would have been. I'm guessing somewhere near the mall. I also heard that their hideaway area was on the 3rd level of JC Penney's which I guess is gone now too.

@@RayOutThere Yep. I saw an interview with George Romero decades ago, that they agreed to the colorization so those involved in the making of Night could get some money out of it - since the original film distributor left the copyright notice off the film prints, it was assumed by others to be public domain and was copied and sold by many later distributors, home video companies, etc. with no money from those releases going to the creators of Night.

As far as I am concerned there is only ONE Dawn of the Dead (the 1978 version). Whats up with all these remakes? I think it shows an extreme lack of creativity to constantly have to remake remake remake movies that were already GREAT and need NO improvement. I have always wanted to make the pilgrimage to that mall, doubtful I will ever get to do that now but I like seeing videos like this. Thanks
