Moki Dugway and Mexican Hat in Southern Utah

I was able to spend some time exploring around southern Utah on my way from Moab to Arizona. This video includes some scenes from along Highway 261 (Trail of the Ancients), the Moki Dugway, and around Mexican Hat.
Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy this video.

    So beautiful, my husband watched this video with me and loved it. I’m afraid of highs so I’m glad you did the driving. LOL. Thank you Robert, you have taking us to places we never knew exist. Please keep producing videos, they are greatly appreciated and enjoyed.

    I had never heard of the Moki Dugway, even though I had passed nearby many times over the years. Fortunately, I was traveling with a friend this time who told me about it. Similarly, I had been by Mexican Hat Rock many times (and even stopped for photos), but didn't realize there was camping available right below it near the river. That was pretty cool too!

    About 15 years ago, I was touring this part of the world and I was just randomly driving around and haphazardly made it to the base of Moki Dugway and decided to drive up it. One of the happiest accidents I ever had. The view from up top was breathtaking. I would love to go back again. To me it feels like a little tourism secret that few know about. Thank you for sharing!

    The scenery was stunning as usual. Did they really take a class A on that road? How is Debra doing by now? I think of her often since the loss of Nonnie. I am so glad that you are traveling together. I know that you have helped each other a lot over the time I have watched this and her channels. Thank God for wonderful friends. Thanks for taking me along. I really appreciate all of the trips we have taken. Stay safe and happy travels. Love Joyce

    I did not realize you got to do the Trail of the Ancients! That is fantastic! The dramatic music for the horrible road cracked me up. What is up with that bus?!? I can’t tell you how many times I see people drive these million dollar rigs (and even quarter million rigs) into places where they get stuck. Yikes! Hopefully, they had been there before and knew what they were getting in to, but remember that one guy we saw that had a $250,000 trailer and he tried to go down a gulley after dark? Then he couldn’t figure out how to back up. Now that’s scary! LOL. Wow, those one lane passes and those views on Moki Dugway! My oh my. I sure hope I get to experience this too one day. I love the Mexican Hat area. I wish I had thought to stop at that restaurant when I went through there. Very nice footage. Thanks for sharing Robert!

    I think that road is only part of Trail of the Ancients. Very cool though. You would have loved every mile of it! That big RV? I was flabbergasted. LOL And that big trailer? Yes, that was "interesting" as well. The Moki Dugway was a blast as well. I had thought it was at the end of a primitive road or something, not in the middle of a state highway. Crazy weird, but is was still pretty cool. Maybe when we work our way north in the spring we can go through that area and explore some more.

    Beautiful. I like the captioning better than voice over. Wonder if that big ole class A is still in the sand pit. My idea for your perfect next dwelling, would be sand colored and four wheel drive. The places you would go. Not that you have been impeded AT ALL with the van, just peace of mind for you. Safe travels and good health.

  • @RobertWitham

    @RobertWitham

    6 жыл бұрын

    I debated between narrating the video clips and using the text. Obviously I ended up settling on text. LOL I can't imagine trying that sand pit in an RV - they could well still be there! Your idea for a rig sounds pretty ideal! I didn't realize how much I was missing with the minivan until I did some rides with a friend who has a 4x4 this fall. The minivan does surprisingly well though with front-wheel-drive and decent tires, but the ground clearance is still kind of low for a lot of rough roads. It probably looks like I am kind of crazy with the places that I go, but it is always a calculated risk where I expect to be able to make it through alright. In two years on the road without a 4x4 I have yet to get stuck. Hoping to keep it that way too! LOL Definitely would not mind have 4x4 and more ground clearance though :)

    I know this area does have winter weather, but I don't know how bad. Road maintenance is pretty limited on most of these rural back roads out west so you would want to be watching the weather forecast for while you plan to be there as well as in the days leading up to it to be safe. I haven't actually been through there during winter though so I cannot provide any firsthand knowledge. Definitely an incredibly scenic area that is worth seeing if you can work it out though!

  • @RobertWitham

    @RobertWitham

    6 жыл бұрын

    I do not unless it is really necessary, but it does help if you are able to do that. I carry a small, 12 volt compressor, but it would be quite a project reinflating all four tires with it. My friend who does a lot of 4x4 roads actually has a real compressor installed in his truck for inflating after driving on bad roads.
