I would totally use this for just about the same application as in this this video. But I will say this. STOP BEING SO HARD ON YOUR VOCALS!!! Dude. You killed it. Seriously. Sure I could hear the correction moments. But you should totally be kinder to yourself.

I cannot believe that you downplayed your voice ! It is So very Wonderful!, Can we assume it is the mic that makes your voice sound so Great? Or is it because you Have Such A great tone in your voice that the mic picks it up Wonderfully ;)

So glad you are reviewing some Mojave stuff. I own two 201 FETs and they’re awesome. I love using them as overheads or one as an external kick drum mic. I also own a 200 tube version and several years ago sent it back to be serviced by Mojave before a big session. At some point I got a call from Mojave and actually talked to David Royer himself who was working on my mic. Don’t know if that’s typical or not but I love small companies that are accessible and take care to make sure their products are the best. Thanks Warren!

We have 2 MA-201 fets ... I support your thoughts about it having a classic, deep, detailed sound. It's a pro mic. It's just it's own thing. It doesn't seem like it's close to something else. It's crazy that the likes of David Royer inspects and signs a card for every Mic that comes out of their shop. Can't say enough about them. Thanks for bringing to light the recording possibilities of the 201! Always appreciate your graceful approach to freely sharing info. Much appreciated. Ron Flack, Canton Ohio

You're very kind! The song was written by Gary Brooker Keith Reid Matthew Fisher of Procal Harum, based on Johann Sebastian Bach's “Sleepers, Wake!” and “Air on the G String”.

Warren, Whiter Shade of pale , one of my all time favorite songs . You’ve have a wonderful voice !

Glad you’ve gotten to spend some time with Mojave. I’ve gone through a few condensers but keep coming back to the Mojave stuff. I’ve got the 201, 301, and the gorgeous 1000 in my locker now. Great company!

What a treat Warren! I love this style of baroque music blend from this time period. Great song and wonderful cover of this. I'd love to mix it and add some strings and perhaps a mellotron....

Such a great mic. Recently sold mine to get the Telefunken CU-29. The 201Fet may be a future repurchase for me though, lovely Fet mic, and one of my favorite mics to date as a drum overhead.

Great review. I picked up the 201fet two years ago and use it for hip-hop vocals. The sound is warm and amazing...and the jensen transformers have a way of really smoothing out any mid-rangy or harsh frequencies. Highly recommended.

Great job on the cover of that iconic song -- your singing/voice worked really well for that track. Too bad about that YooToob distortion,...I could hear it throughout on your vocal. I'm close to pulling the trigger on a used Mojave 301fet.

This is a great sounding mic. I like it a lot. Personally, I prefer the MA300 & MA1000 still; but this is nothing to sneeze at. Mojave, in my opinion, produces the absolute best mics on the market at their price points. Aside from maybe Blue and the SM57, no other company compares

@@Producelikeapro I've had a lot of fun mixing and doing a vocal on this song, it is so well recorded and played that it was a absolute joy. If you would like me to I can send you a mix and the vocal track separate? Maybe you can use it for a mixing lesson on what not to do (I hope you like it of course but I'm not a pro) or a pitch correction lesson ( some things are not completely in key but I left it that way because I'm a human ;-) ) Again thanks for allowing me to do a vocal, it was a lot of fun :-)

I've been super curious to hear this mic! I've seen a bunch of high profile live mixers using them on overheads, so I've been super tempted to get a pair for that myself! maybe I'll win one, and only have to buy one ;)

Hello Warren, first I would like to thank you for all the hard work you do to spread your knowledge and experience. Second, I was wondering do you have any tips about what type of microphones work best with different types of preamps? Not by Tonality but for example, A dynamic with a tube based preamp (transformer and tube) or a Condenser with a transformer based pre (JFET with a transformer). I'm just curious if certain circuits or components operate better with one another.
