Just finished watching and THANK YOU for sharing your honest thoughts. It's so refreshing to hear someone critically assess a company's creative direction vs. their stated goals. I really agree with your criticisms. Just some thoughts (sorry it's long): It does not surprise me that LOONA and tripleS' best branding are their logos - because in both cases an external design studio (Studio XXX) made them. Studio XXX has a page for each of their projects and it made me realise that they had a unique, custom S logo for *each* tripleS member that was designed to be used in their promotions... and then Modhaus only ever used it once FOR AUDITIONS and *never* in their official album rollouts 🙄 So much potential for fun, creative, and interlinked album packaging, digital covers, teaser photos WASTED LIKE????? Your rant about Version Up's typography was hilarious, especially regarding the kerning. The regression in the OEC logo was soooo disappointing. And god that teaser rollout was awful like what was the need for those poorly done MV screenshots *one month* in advance of the album release? Here: "Did You Wait?" video -> Teaser photos -> MV screenshots -> MV teaser video... there I came up with a better one the spot lmao.

And for all of Jaden's supposed obsession with the lore (to the point that he allegedly LEFT BBC because of creative differences over it), he really has dropped the ball on lore *TWICE* now. Only one vague lore caption for Version Up and absolutely nothing for K... oh so suddenly we don't care about lore? We don't want to be artistic and creative and reference other media or folktales in our photos, captions or even our damn MVs (which have always done the heavy lifting anyway)? If Algorithm is a hint at what ARTMS' future MVs are gonna be like I'm going to be so disappointed. It's becoming painfully obvious that a large part of what LOONA's MVs so amazing was because of the passion and intricate detail DigiPedi poured into each of them. I need Jaden to hire better people or expand the team or do SOMETHING to change this creative hellhole Modhaus is stuck in. I think the concepts are good and have potential, but the execution is so severely lacking it makes the whole thing fall flat on its face. And ffs do not be expanding your damn artist roster before investing into your artists' development FIRST!

The kerning makes me want to get vi0l3nt like CMON DAWGGGGG EVERYBODY KNOWS TO KERN A FONT 😭 THERES NO WAY YOU SEE THOSE SPACES AND GREENLIGHT IT ANYWAYS????? Yes I was also just informed that the logo was outsourced rather than done in house, making the situation even more dire than I thought. Bragging about your group being the world’s “first” decentralized girl group when everything they produce is boring and flat with no unique flair is very unserious. Someone in the comments tried to say that removing the NFT model would crush them as a company but I once again ask. Why is a company that is pumping out NFTS can’t afford an actual decent graphic designer? The priorities are all over the place. Also I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the lore but for as much as a stickler that Jaden used to be over it, I would have expected some actual lore drops to be associated with these projects? Much like Billlie does. But like I said, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt on that since ARTMS is fairly new

what pisses me off so bad about the oec rollout is that there was barely any teaser photos even tho there were multiple beautiful concepts. like.. they kept posting that one pic of the members standing on a table MULTIPLE TIMES, then the color smoke photos they post them all as a collage so its very lq and theres text all over the place. and they do it to triples and heejin too. like every teaser has me screaming get the fckn text off the pic! get the extreme grain filter and ai filter out of here and just post the pics in good quality!! and dont get me started on the two week preorder periods.. they didnt even reveal the heejin album covers when the preorder went up... hello! thats what makes ppl buy and how they decide which version to buy!! i feel like mh has this idea that a strategy of barely giving anything makes ppl more intrigued but it doesnt it just makes ppl frustrated and hurts sales tbh

wasn’t the OEC photos actually intentional because each girl swapped places? Honestly, the idea wasn’t bad but like with all things under Modhaus, the execution was dull. I’m also very off the tacky text all over the photos and I’ve been desperately hoping they quit it. The designs are not good enough nor done well enough to justify any of the modifications they make to the teasers. It lowers their branding really bad, just feels very cheap to look at unfortunately

I don't necessarily condemn modhaus way of approaching some of these things, but their execution is definitely bad. The fans voting would've been fine if they kept it to more harmless decisions. For example, the recent ARTMS voting about which English version of the songs selection fans want to see. They're songs we're all familiar with already so it doesn't really mean anything if one of them gets an English version. Letting fans in general decide where to film your MVs, which sub-unit gets to perform, etc is dogsht for the reasons you've provided, but the part that bothers me the most is that it's just blatant money milking from the fans and letting the wealthy/obsessed fans controlling the group. I'd rather take a popularity contest any time of the day vs a contest to see who can blows the most money on a voting poll. I'm not gonna lie, ARTMS is not my favorite subunit post-BBC, but I tried supporting them. Hell I even dipped into those stupid NFTs for ARTMS for a short bit despite knowing fair well how dogsht NFTs are and even then I couldn't bothered keeping up given how they are so blatant at selling NFTs rather than trying to focus on the group itself. Now I just find it hard to follow anything ARTMS does because everything is overshadowed by the NFTs.

deffo think modhaus is being funded by nfts & wtv other crypto shit. it's the only explanation i have for why fans are much more involved than they need to be & why they're able to put out a fuckton of content. it's honestly concerning considering bbc & jj's history of irresponsible spending habits. im worried we'll see the same effect & instead of 12 girls fighting for their livelihoods, it'll be 29 girls.

  • @shprism

    @shprism

    8 ай бұрын

I highly doubt they are being funded solely like Crypto as it has crashed pretty badly this year, as well as NFT’s. If they are receiving large funding from it, they would be bleeding monies and most likely wouldn’t be able to keep up operations. I do recall a Triple S stan saying that Modhaus funding worked in the same way BBC’s did with some connections to gun manufacturing? But I’m not sure, so don’t treat that as fact. But it is more likely they’re being funded by something more liquid, not to mention fans are also funneling real money into the company - not just crypto. I’ve been sort of concerned as well regarding the same thing on 29 girls being paid a livable wage based on this system but Triple S allegedly already got their first paycheck a year ago, so for now, things seem fine? Also, I will defend JJ on one thing - I don’t think he should be blamed for the spending habits of BBC. I think his main issue regarding that in my opinion was that he was too focused on gatekeeping LOONA rather than properly monetizing the content that they would dump millions into.

modhaus has many big investors behind them, one of them is a carbon neutral nft company or something like that. those kind of nfts are not like momenticas or other nfts in kpop, they make barely any harm to the environment (in fact a tweet makes more harm than them) and they're worth absolutely nothing outside the cosmo app so they're basically an in app purchase. other modhaus/tripleS investors are Kakao, CJ & ENM, GS25, a housing company and more. that's how they get the budget for everything they do.

The objekt system seems promising and is nothing like bbc since that was a polaris subsidiary and polaris also never paid their artists. i think those kind of loona comparisons are weird since they're not even under the same company or have the same CEO & staff

Listen, I do love tripleS as a group and OBVIOUSLY The moon girlies as well… But MODHAUS way of comebacks makes me scratch my head it’s like- something abt it look so flat, and indistinguishable from each other. And most importantly, it looks so corporate. Even the MV are this way.. it can’t possibly be from a lack of money. When generation dropped i first noticed this but I ignored it, but 4 titles in, it’s STILL LIKE THIS? and bro I didn’t even realize lovelution and evolution were two different groups.💀 Like you have 16 beautiful girls, and 5 loona girls (WHICH YOU’VE WORK WITH BEFORE?!!??)and you have access to interesting music, concepts, good mixing, u have infinite amounts of members and opportunities.. it truly feels like a waste. absolutely agree, especially with regards to the ill-placed trust in fans to have a say in what modhaus puts out. I'm sorry, but some people fundamentally do not know what they like. there are countless examples of cases where people chase one thing only to end up desiring another-im sure kpop is no different. while I do find triples attempting to be loona 2.0 very tacky, its just so disappointing seeing modhaus' treatment of artms.. how do you take such an expansive group like loona, as someone who used to be their creative director, and make them unbelievably generic? i've enjoyed some of the music from oec and heejin + haseul, but it's so disheartening to see them existing as shells of their former selves :( on that same front, artms as a collective unit seems really lost/directionless.. I'm assuming the goal is to eventually have the 5 of them release together but im failing to see how they'll manage to do so, especially considering previous lore and group work (supposing that they won't be abandoning it). wishing all the best for the girls tho, hoping by some miracle of god theat modhaus wakes up and manages to pull something interesting off.

there’s something about both groups that exhaust me mentally to even think about honestly. artms doesn’t feel whole at all, rather than actually trying to establish them - we just got a subunit and two soloists and there isn’t an ounce of cohesion between them. we have the opposite issue with triple s, who have too much cohesion to the point you can’t tell the difference between any of these subunits. everything just feels so messy to watch, i can’t get invested

they appear in each other’s music videos because of the lore but beyond that, there isn’t much…substance there

not about their visual concept but the way they have so much content for a rookie group even w a lot of members is kind of worrying and, tbh for me an extreme turn off, because they dont feel interesting, like why do u want me to watch vlogs of 24 individuals. i hope the girls are getting good breaks tho 🧘🏾‍♀️, i just feel like triples is a really hard group to get into as a dedicated fan

This really points out a lot of the problems I didn't know I had with triples. I LOVE love their music but literally everything else about the group always gave me the ick . They need stronger concepts and less of the weird nft based fan involvement. The only good thing modhaus has going for them right now is that they're not blockberry creative.

The objekts (nfts) give money to both tripleS and artms when someone buys them 😭

there are other methods they could do to earn money that isn’t setting up an nft model, i wish y’all would stop trying to make it seem like they HAVE to do this

The thing the people need to understand its that its hella expensive to keep afloat on the kpop market. Unfortunately or fortunately the so called photocards and the multiples version of the same album(ver.A, B, C etc) it is what moves this market and probably it is where the companies gets their highest margin…..its this asian music consumer habit that puts japan+korea as the largest music market following the america one(even JP and KR having a much smaller territory and their demographic being majority old adults that probably dont consume music anymore) Yet its easy to see lots of kpop groups hitting million seller album, something like nmixx as an exemple (and dont get me wrong but i love some Loona but their full discography in all of their years of work or should i say overwork might not even achiev half of that). Whereas western market relies mostly on stream services and operates in a completely different way. The point ima trying to get is when you say that “you dont need to buy your k-favs album or other kind of fan services” I totally agree with you BUT at least don’t expect them to achiev the success that you project in them either… Either way success is relative and longevity is not. At the end of the day people are entitled to do wherever their want with their time, energy or money… so just let them Ps. one major point that I totally agree with the vid is that modhaus might have been spending i little to much on the wrong area and that might bite them in the as later on. Others points dont troubles me that much.

I…don’t know what you’re talking bout cause I never said what you just quoted. I said it’s not your responsibility to pay idols, referring to the money from the NFTS going directly to the members themselves and thus being used as a marketing strategy by the company for a while now. How that became “Don’t buy your k-fave album” is beyond me lol

@@shprism sorry, to clear things out, i was not referencing you in that statement….but paraphrasing the general view/viewer on and the disparity between western/eastern markets So the “you” means akin to you all that consume kpop as foreigners. The “kpop favs album” its said because thats where people get their card collection from, generally. But expanding on the subject… the nft thing its just another type o merch that works same way as the photocards from the album but are bought separately from it…. And if im not mistaken all sold product impacts directly/indirectly on the members earnings but as the nft have a higher range of distribution(than the physical album) and eliminates a lot of intermediaries(production costs, shipment etc) the members might earn a better percentage than the other products. So thats not much to rant about that because its just a decentralized way of what all others companies are already doing for years. (Although im not an insider so take it with a grain of salt) My bad for the confusion and another long post

this comment got a whiff of ableism that’s making me side eye. nothing about this was a nitpick, i’m a graphic designer - this channel focuses on creative direction. if i a graphic designer is not allowed to point out poor masking, poor concept planning, lack of kerning-then WHAT is not nitpicking. literally a you problem lmao
