kep1er's main problem is that wakeone hates the lineup & has made sure everyone knows it. like they were originally supposed to debut a month & a half after being formed but bc someone got covid it was delayed. a month & a half is nearly not enough time to properly prepare for a debut esp. when u don't know what to do with the given lineup. kep1er should've gone for a quirky alien girl concept & each era is just them exploring earth.

I actually disagree with the IVE point I would describe them as Posh,Elegant, with a sprinkle of girl crush but I don’t think they are similar too other groups like kep1er with really no concrete identity

I agree with your label for IVE's concept, but I also agree with OP's point that they have a vibe of "playing dress up in their rich mother's makeup and outfits". There's an image and a concept that they're going for, but something about it is off to me idk. Maybe it is a lack of substance like they said in their reply ^

although "doublast" era is nothing different from the typical summer concept, i actually think it's their best era and "troubleshooter" is their best album. "doublast" corrected a lot of the issues that were present during debut era and it was just a fun, good time. (for me atleast 🤨)

i feel like the difference between ive's so called "elegant concept" and other groups for example le sserafim is that le sserafim actually incorporates specific elements of elegance like catwalking, minimalism, wearing designer brands, and their overall artistic direction. that is what makes their identity. for ive however it just feels like 6 rich girls wearing fancy clothes and making music and i think people just like to catergoize any kpop group with no specific concept as "elegant" just because they look good.

As for ive, I think their concept revolves more on narcissism with the posh and elegant theme. The problem lies on how the company wants to project their concept and I think this should be blamed on their creative team. I stan ive because I saw great potential in them. But starship cant or doesnt want to further elaborate or or explore their lore in the MVs. All of their title tracks from eleven to baddie have possibilities to have more substance or lore into it but instead we are being fed with the rich-duaghter girls agenda and it is dissappointing since I am a fan

Art direction, marketing, identity and business tactics are literally as, (if not, more) important as good music when it comes to promoting a group wish kpop stans understood that. Literally look at a groups like NewJeans and even Iz*one

not technically 4th gen but wjsn chocome was a real breath of fresh air when the unit debuted. still we've only had two releases from them so we dont really have much...

I feel like groups used to have so much planning behind them, even if it didn’t land, we could see a clear idea being fleshed out Even EXO kept their “tree of life” thing for a few comebacks before naturally moving on like 🥲 If these companies would just slow tf down and be more decisive, everything would be more coherent

Ive to me just feels like 4th gen blackpink. Beautiful girls, beautiful gowns, but not much else. Especially when it comes to their MVs, just expensive sets with little to no substance.

For me, IVE has done like 3 concepts.. they have one word in common.. expensive. That’s it.. I feel like that should be a compliment, but I can’t sit here and act like it’s an entirely good thing in IVE’s case. Pretty set, girls,and visuals, this “I’m better than you” kinda thing. But the problem is that it stops there. Not much substance to build off of to make a coherent concept. I’d argue that Love dive and Kitsh have a similar concept.. while I AM and After like are both similar and polar opposites.. and Eleven, shes there. I actually like Ive.. but it does feel “fake it till you make it” in a way.

Completely agree with lightsum and kep1er, like they’re always trend hoping i feel not just concept and sound wise but also in terms of styling. The styling is more directed at kep1er tbh. Like for giddy majority of the mv they wearing those “edgy” sporty outfits they became really popular cause of lsfm and it was just really jarring cause it didn’t ,match the vibe of the song at all I wish they played into the cat concept of the song more it would’ve made way more sense just a wasted opportunity, this era for made me realise how messy and disorientating their styling can be

I disagree their styling made totally sense because the aesthetic of the mv was very street cat, like the set remind me of west side story and giddy at its core is very inspired from the urban music from the 90s/2000s. Their styling was coherent.

@@mylovechoerry2233 I never thought of the street cat aspect of it which is actually pretty cool although I still think it could’ve been executed better, as for me being biased that’s not true I really like kep1er, I like a lot of their music and I literally saw them live, you can like a group and still give them constructive criticism, every group has room for improvement and that’s ok.

I enjoy Billle's art direction. Even though their creative director kinda threw gwsn’s lore at them Billle executed it better since they have nicer budget. I also like Yena’s concept, especially with Smartphone. I think she's had the best lightstick to come out in a while.

fnc waited way too long to bring back the video game concept, it did SO well they should’ve milked it for sure. Chebul literally had a direction and then just went bankrupt bc their company is stupid.

cherry bullet section got me in tears bru i miss their old concept so much. fnc is misogynistic on a whole other other level i cant 😭😭😭 the worst part is, it's really not expensive to do it just requires a little bit of effort and time. which they don't wanna give because they don't give a fuck. and it's true that aespa having a somewhat video game/ digital concept would probably deter them from ever trying to revive their debut concept or that ever if they did people would immediately say they were copying or smth. truly one of saddest art direction related tragedies in kpop imo. i miss them everyday 😔 💔

truly do not understand why kep1er couldn't have had a brighter sound switching between more trendy sounding like triples type shit and more quirky fun stuff like up or alive by lightsum rather than having a whole 360 every cb 😭

i think my favorite 4th gen gg art direction would probably be : - nwjns (minus the album covers) - aespa (for the most part) - itzy (minus the lame regal/elegant concept and cherishe) - i'm honestly like stayc's girly concept a bit it's just their singing and their fans that are a bit of a turn off for me. people love to act like they reinvented the wheel with their debut 😭 (they did not) - fromis obvi (pretty girls making good music) - loonaur up until why not (maybe?) - wish i could say billlie but i'm kinda confused on their lore so 😭😭 - purple kiss has some pretty good art direction (i think?) - csr (my girls 😘😘)

i agree for all of them but ive, i think their overarching concept is narcissism which u can find hints of in each of their releases, the problem with them is more their lack in cohesion in their visuals but all of this is probably starships fault bcs the company doing their mvs and teasers is hausofteam which usually retains some type of cohesion and originality (for exemple their work w tbz and nct)

Lightsum could have been great. The hype there was predebut was HUGE. Cube should have built Chowon her own Izone, stole WJSN i mean IZONE's sound and kept it moving. Like their second album waz kind of this but still something was missing and then they kicked out two members for what? Another concept change? And it cant even be they where kicked out due to lacking skill as while Hina is my bias breaker she also lacked and got to stay. Cube failsd a group that could have really been mid tier international wise.

this was such an interesting and informative video! really love how you break down the groups as well, and i think i finally learned why i'm not really into ive (other than the music.. not always being my thing)

i thought nature was bout to be the 4th gen rv too but then they released rica rica and i was like OHHHHHHHHH…. 😭 i would say my personal fav 4th gen gg with art direction has to be newjeans. aespa and billlie are somewhat close imo but aespa’s creative direction has been going downhill after savage and billlie’s actual photo teasers are soo boring compared to their videos and album covers.

the 2 minutes had me CRACKING TF UPP the way I was convinced this was some kinda setup for a punchline 😭😭 jokes aside, I hold alot of the same sentiments, especially when it comes to IVE-less about the group specifically, but more about hoping that their entire lack of a concept and simultaneous profitability does not inspire companies to follow suit.

Nmixx also has identity issues for me though. I don't think so either? I don't know how to explain shhdhshs Another GG from 4gen that I can't see an identity is h1-key

I can't say what an nmixx comebacks would be, a visual direction, characteristics of the song you know, an example is the expergo album, a song with a y2k MV a nurse rhymer song , and then , a r&b hiphop song , Paxxword, a balad and End of show song with hyperpop elements

nature had the CHANCE to be a group that actually IS ‘versatile’ but none of the things they do are consistent and its frustrating

For Ive, I actually think they have a common theme : siren, mix with q high school gang of girls. They doesn't have the most cohesive title tracks, but their b-side are : classic, my satisfection, eleven, love dive, heroine. The sirens are alluring to people on a side, but also have fun by themselves in an other side : after like, i am, kitsh, lips.

I hope lightsum has a comeback soon and I’m still hurt they kicked out (ik cube said leave but cmon ) huiyeon and jian so abruptly,

other favorite groups art identity wise are: 1) gidle. i love the concepts of their 3 last releases, anything that touches on femininity and/or pop culture, i go crazy for. even if the execution leaves a lot to be desired i can at least appreciate the effort and the confidence to carry it 2) purple kiss. if we scrap nerdy from our memories. their debut was so good it was like gothic chic elegant i wish they could go back to it. i really liked zombie and sweet juice, like theyre still in the horror concept territory but i wish they had first cemented their place with one concept and then explore variations of it 3) stayc. i love how they explore girlhood and everthing that comes with it. very sweet and cute 4) fifty fifty. still a rookie group and theyve only had two releases but i feel like what theyre going for is dreamy nostalgic pop idk. i hope with their newfound success their company will get the budget to expand and give them something bigger and grander. 🧿 evil eye emoji to ward off a certain fandom 🤭

ive fucking robbed me like i was supposed to get a badly done newjeans dupe (ive summer) or whatever but I got nothinggg!! they had one job and the money to do it like it was a choice and for what??? after like??? boooooo. also i only noticed because i was watching a makeup video about wonyoung but basically their assumed representative color got something to do with the chromatic circle and that's why we had this blinding ugly ass green for a cover and a blue and a red, like the idea sounds lowk very much with potential but they just stayed superficial like idk.... like where did wonyoung's money go we could have done much more for the sets I swear like couldn't they take a page out of what is love me and recreate movie scene and/or depicting how color is used in cinematography like idk, I wanted smth

@@shprism and i think i said this on aja’s channel or just to myself ig but i’ve been BEGGING i’ve to just get more experimental and less safe in their concepts. it’s personally why i believe I AM showed a dip in terms of how large after like and love dive were. And i get it! WJSN was unfortunately not as successful as their sister group at this moment (and i believe it’s because korea couldn’t grasp their concept even though it was lowkey super simple 😭😭) but why does that stop you from trying it with ive? i still kinda think with kitsch it was them getting more risky but that was still safe as hell.

We listen to a genre that literally trains people to act and sing a certain way, SM singers all have the same technique, the same with yg, jyp, starship and go on, kpop is industry plant heaven and literally we can count on a single hand groups from all generations that are trully unique, from singing techniques to artistic direction

1 I agree for several bands but it mostly depends on how the bands are marketed and how their bands are received by the public. in general if the group has a strong identity it became popular very quickly this can come from the concept or the personality of certain members. I do not agree to put IVE in this category because the success of the group and of certain members like YUJIN or WONYOUNG shows that you are wrong about this group. 2 as far as the concept is concerned, all the concepts are based on the basis of 4 major concepts CUTE ,GIRL CRUSH ,SEXY ,REBEL /EMANCIPATED GIRL all the other concepts are derivatives of these 4 major concepts, sometimes it's just a mix of these concepts. only few groups are very unique like K.A.R.D , DREAMCATCHER . but not having an "original" concept does not necessarily mean not having an identity. Precisely the groups that stand out despite having similar concepts do so thanks to their identity as a group or as an individual. IVE is a good example they surf on a cute and captivating concept but they are also a bit rebellious. their groups work because they have members whose "identity" is very marked, they have a strong presence on stage and have influence on young Koreans. if they didn't have an identity it wouldn't work.

@@shprism i know what i'am talking about i'am a cameraman in this industrie LOL i work for Afreeca TV it's a small chanel for westerner but korean know our work . if you want call that an" Attitude concept" many groups in the MZ generation want to be unique but they all in a way build they're concept with a sexy or cute or Girl crush aspect why because people want to see that . they can came with COW BOY outfit , cheerleader outfit , urban outfit or zombie make up at the end we can put them in one category .

My fav art direction in 4th gen would be Nmixx, I like experiment concepts. I also like New Jeans‘ art direction but I feel like it might age VERY poorly. Aespa was great too until I saw the incredibly disappointing mv for spicy that felt like they lost their whole identity and uniqueness to fit in. But none of these groups will ever be a red velvet or f(x)
