MMA coach on Movie Fights: Attack on Titan, a film study on the Kimura

Спорт

Shanghai based MMA coach and professional fight commentator Ramsey Dewey reacts to movie fight scenes. This time we take a look at a scene from “Attack on Titan”. Full disclosure: I know nothing about this franchise, but I did spot a legitimate BJJ reversal which I will break down for you at the end of the video.

    For a serious technical breakdown with realistic moves, you've already had Hajime No Ippo recommended, but I'm going to reaffirm that. And can honestly say *ANY* fight from the series would be interesting. Takamura vs Brian Hawk is a good recommendation I've seen others give, but I'd also suggest Ippo vs Sendo as a good alternative. And for something a bit more fun and silly, Sanosuke vs Anji from Rurouni Kenshin.

  • @DetonatorDog

    I'm afraid that is not the fight scene between Eren and Rainer the requests refered to. The one you've just reviewed is from the third season which aired quite recently. There is also a fight between those characters in the second season that looks a lot more like realistic grappling. Older comments refering to "the" fight between Eren and Rainer are a bit ambiguous now. Anyway, I like the concept! It would be cool if you've reviewed the other fight, too!

    So a quick note of the titans (big naked man) is that they are incredibly light, for the most part their body is formed from the air around it. The odd glass formation is a form of armor that allows the titan to punch through walls, block cannon shots, and so on.

    This is the second fight between them. I think people wanted you to look at the first fight: at that time, Eren (the one without the armored skin, and with the more human eyes) couldn't pierce the armor from Reiner (the armored, yellow-eyes one) through striking, so he resorted to wrestle him. He used very good Jiu-jitsu moves to break through Reiner's armor. One of my favorite fights in all anime. This one is like a second round, it's cool but isn't as good IMO.

Wikipedia states that the film is "notable for excluding the usual exaggerations of the genre" and "The lead roles were played by (highly regarded) karate experts". The film also markets itself for not using special effects. Karate ka can romanticize the reality of a fight (I say this as a practitioner myself who enjoys the activity very much) and I think your analysis would be quite insightful.

    If it requires more strength than at normal size, it's probably not possible at increased size since force required scales with mass, which scales with volume which scales with a factor ^3 while strength scales with surface of a cut perpendicular to the direction of the muscle fibers, which scales with a factor of ^2, so it's probably not possible to pick someone up by their ankle and throw them if you're equal sized giants

    It's worth mentioning that the reason the titans send eachother flying more so than regular humans in real life is that in the show, the titan's bodies are made of something that is lower is density than humans flesh/bone, but also seems to be stronger. In other words, if they had just scaled up an actual human to the size of a titan, they would be significantly heavier and not as physically strong as the giants in the video.

  • @pomponi0
    @pomponi04 жыл бұрын

    The thing about titans is that while pretty heavy and strong, they're made of very light material. It makes sense that they move really slow and how (in other fights) a regular punch can obliterate another titan's skull

    Theres a certain science behind titans too. Like the body mass of a titan is actually lighter than if a human were to be the same size as a titan. For a bit more context, Eren (black haired protagonist), has just discovered the ability to harden the flesh of a titan by turning it into a crystal like material. Reiner (blonde haired antagonist) is a unique titan that is known as the armored titan that has extremely hard skin, hence why Eren hardrns his fists in order to break through his armor. The people standing on the roof are Eren's closest friends and comrades, they are waiting for an opening so that they can finish off the traitor double agent Reiner. There is ALOT that happens and is too much to explain. But in short everything that is happening has a specific reason for it. The anime is really good and the way the story and plot unfolds is flawless. And most of it is realistic in terms of physics and functionality. It captures the reality of what its like to experience death and fear. The rising action keeps me on my toes waiting to see what happens next.

    OMG yes! So so many fight scenes come to mind like Bloodsport 3 at the 1:09:30 mark where Alex Cardo (Daniel Bernhardt) fights Stellio "MMA coach Eric Paulson" or if you are willing to do unrealistic standup fights "Fist of the North Star (8/10) Movie CLIP - One Against Many (1995)" or or Bloodmoon 1997 at the 1:29 mark with Gary Daniels vs the late Darren Shahlavi. or if you only want to do short MMA style "the quest mongolia vs greece" Those would be my first choices-Thank You!

    3:17 a friend of mine did this to me once. We were having a small spar. No rules, no main techniques. Only your own skill and knowledge.I lost badly because I don’t do as many martial arts and didn’t have the strength and skills. I managed to get a few lucky hits and tackled him but in the end I got far to tired and got thrown. We stopped after that because I was in quite a bit of pain. Luckily nothing was too bad so I got back up.

    To add up, the Naked Man with pointy ears and sharp teeth is Eren, and the brown-red naked man is Reiner (who is based off on Brock Lesnar btw), both are Titan shifters or humans with the ability to transform into a sentient Titan, unlike a pure Titan who is mindless and will eat any human it will make contact with ( I don't want to spoil why, I want coach Ramsey to watch the anime or even read the manga 😂 ). Got some great fight scenes, some are technical and some are just for the sake of anime entertainment 😂
