About the Attack On Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin):
Attack on Titan (Japanese: 進撃の巨人, Hepburn: Shingeki no Kyojin, lit. "The Attack Titan") is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. It is set in a world where humanity lives inside cities surrounded by enormous walls that protect them from gigantic man-eating humanoids referred to as Titans; the story follows Eren Yeager, who vows to exterminate the Titans after a Titan brings about the destruction of his hometown and the death of his mother.
About each Anime Fighter (source Attack On Titan wikia):
Eren Yeager (エレン・イェーガー) is a former member of the Survey Corps. He is the main protagonist of Attack on Titan. He lived in Shiganshina District with his parents and adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman until the fall of Wall Maria, where he impotently witnessed his mother being eaten by a Titan. This event would lead to Eren's intense hatred towards the Titans as he swore to wipe all of them off the face of the Earth.
The Armored Titan (鎧の巨人) is one of the Nine Titans that possesses armored plates of skin across its body. It is currently in the possession of Reiner Braun. Reiner Braun (ライナー・ブラウン) is the Vice Captain of the Warrior Unit and the main protagonist of Attack on Titan from the Marleyan perspective. He is the illegitimate son of an Eldian and a Marleyan and grew up in Liberio's internment zone. Eventually, he was selected as a child to become one of Marley's Warriors. At the age of ten, he inherited the power of the Armored Titan.

    In regards to the first takedown, Eren did an Osoto-Guruma but we decided to show an Osoto-Gari since it’s a higher percentage takedown. On top of that, Eren is also a child soldier (he started a little later but was still around 12, I believe?) with a few years of probably even harder training than the Warriors. The Recruits had hand to hand combat training plus they had to have the strenght to use the ODM gear (which requires immense core strenght).

    The show is realistic with everything but the elements it introduces. Yes, people can turn into a titan, but they explain the rules of that and besides that (and the other rules the anime establishes), their world is the same as ours. Even regular anime inconsistencies are avoided, all character are physically proportional, they have eyes and hair of possible colours (unlike shows with purple eyed and blue haired characters), characters without titan abilities don't get plot armour and get saved by stupid bullshit and every hit feels like it has the impact on the receiver that it should

    As Jacob Mattingly pointed out, Shifter Titans are essentially their human upper body surrounded by flesh, located in the nape of the Titan body's neck. The rest of them is just super dense muscle and bone. And Armored Titan's special ability is that it's covered in super hard, metallic armor. He even has an Optimus Prime style mouth plate that can cover his face for added defense. So Eren was putting more focus on the armbar so he could shatter that armor as we saw and get to the juicy meat underneath. Love you guys videos all the time and keep up the good work.

    a cool detail that this video made me realize is how Eren avoided chokes most of the time and went for joint locks, which as the video points out is typically sub optimal but as AoT lore states Titans are basically perpetual motion machines that don't need stuff like food or air so chokes in this case are the sub optimal option while locks are the optimal option due to Titans having relatively fragile bodies (though the story kinda forgets that half the time)

    I was so hyped for this reaction, and it delivered. I just wanted to make a suggestion about Eren's triangle choke. I trust Chad's expertise that the triangle choke should primarily prioritize the choke over the joint break to end the fight, but perhaps another way to think of this fight was that maybe Eren didn't think that choking out the Armored Titan was possible. Given his reinforced body and a very stubby neck that's at least partially covered by plates, there may just have been no comfortable leverage at that angle. So, Eren's goal the whole fight was to weaken the Armored Titan, hence intentionally threatening to crack the right arm's plating via triangle, then transitioning to armbar to break it. This continues to when Eren goes into the guillotine and cracks the plating on the Armored Titan's back, opening up vulnerabilities for other humans to attack, though at that point it seemed like Eren was also going to break his neck. It's unclear how different a Titan's anatomy may be, so we actually don't know if choking out a Titan is possible. They definitely breathe given the steam they breathe out sometimes and their ability to produce sound, but do they even have a carotid? No need for blood to go to the brain if the brain is a tiny person on the back of a Titan's neck, right?. Eren got the closest to demonstrating a choke-out, but he just gets too angry and feral so we'll never quite know lol. Just food for thought. P.S. I imagine sometime down the line a The Raid reaction will happen? :))

  • @laurenceprice9509

    @laurenceprice9509

    Solid breakdown do the anatomy. This is part of the reason fighter like Yoel Romero would be harder to chock. The position of the head to neck leaves little room for comfortable leverage like you’ve said but anatomy like shoulders built or placed close tot he head make even securing the choke difficult

    Interestingly enough, Annie employed the Kata-Gatame in the exact way you guys demonstrated during her second spar with Eren when they were doing Bayonet training in a flashback. I can only assume the reason Eren didn't do it right here is because A) He forgot that detail (which is normal), or B) Because of how differently Titan-shifter bodies work, there's no guarantee a choke would've had any effect. So he went straight to smashing, because that's how he's been able to successfully kill Titans in the past. Same with the triangle. Since the armor protects the weakpoint of his enemy, Eren has to find other ways to damage/disable/destroy his target by applying the leverage in such a way that it breaks apart the armor and literally tears the guy apart. This kind of makes me curious about how well or what modifications you might need to make to attacks like the triangle if you're fighting somebody in bulky, impact-resistant armor (like riot gear or some equivalent)? ... I think i'm gonna have to get the boys together to play around with this idea someday.
