MLB Player Poll: Former Cardinal Among 'Most Overrated' Players? One Cardinal Passed The Vibe Check

Спорт

Brenden Schaeffer discusses the recent MLB Player Poll conducted by The Athletic that dove into several hot topics around the game, including asking players to name their most overrate peer, which player has the best vibes, and what organizations have a bad reputation among players.
Were the Cardinals listed among the bad organizations or as one that players would want to play for? Or both?!
We'll discuss that as well as which former and current Cardinals were listed within the various categories.

Why don't they want to come here. It's not the fans, not the taxes. With the most World Series rings in the national league, it should be more of a desirable destination. Atlanta as a city is no more exciting than St. Louis, but now everyone wants to play there. I firmly blame Mozaliak for killing the desire to play here. Jocketty got Edmonds, Rolen, Pujols, McGwire, LaRussa, and Duncan. I never remember many not wanting to come here. DeWitt continues to support the Mozaliak Way and most players don't want to be a ,500 team that tries to pull a rabbit out of their hats at the trade deadline. I blame the front office, and ownership needs to "Shildt" Mozaliak and his entourage. Then, bring in some excitement back by investing in winning instead of ballpark village. They are spending enough money, just wasting it on players that are not that good. Mikolas was not a good investment even though he was cheaper than Montgomery. Note to DeWitts, put a real championship team on the field, and we will spend money 💰 like never before. Trade players, before they lose all their value, names available upon request. Thanks for the show. I hope ownership bothers to read it.

A lot of these guys who would answer these questions don’t have outstanding character, they probably do not care about fan support or the team, they care about themselves and themselves only. Do you think goldy would answer these questions? No because he is all class. The players answering these questions are classless and is exactly why they did this behind a screen. They are scared to be called out and they should be.

@@Jeff76767 well thank god what you believe is dumb doesn’t actually determine it being dumb. You completely missed the point of the comment which makes you objectively dumb. I said the people who chose to answer some of these questions like the most overrated player question for example are people with low character because they are doing it behind a curtain. also yes selfishness is of low character and when you play on a TEAM game selfishness can’t be had. Have your opinions sure, I will never respect someone who has to hide behind a curtain to say it. If you don’t want to say it with your face attached to it maybe you shouldn’t say it at all? That was my point, not what you tried to make it. I never said anything about family in my original comment, projection must be your specialty.

20:29 STL used to be a prime destination for players, and not all that long ago either. Reasons typically cited had to do with the perceived knowledge level of the fan base and their generally supportive nature when it came to the players, etc. Now we seem to get basically no love at all. I’m sure that the way the question was framed probably had something to do with the answers received, but it’s sad that we’ve seemingly fallen off the map entirely.

Good show. Interesting poll. I think the WBC is fun, but if we're going to have pros in the Olympics instead of the All Star game, I'd like to see us have the best players out there. No Older guys looking to land a job. The Olympics has more gravitas to me than the WBC. It would be fun to see our best against everyone else's. I wouldn't predict Dream Team 1 type dominance because a good number of our biggest stars will be playing for other countries if they play at all, I'm guessing. Also, a poll that shows what we know. You're not going to ever see a free agent sign for Cardinals history in place of real money. You can't sell 11 championships quite as well when we're losing.

I, for one, would absolutely love if mlb players were to participate in the Olympics. It would be a second post-season, essentially. Some of the top players in the game opt out of playing in the All-Star game and especially the home run derby. I feel as if players had a chance to play for their country, while in mid-season form, there would be fewer opt outs. From a spectators point of view, that would be awesome!

It isn’t surprising to me. An ownership group that decided to shoot for mediocrity will get that. Players want to win, they may not even need the best salary but the trend over the last 10 years the ownership hasn’t met the challenge.

In the case of Jordan Walker, I, the modern day, cardinal management and coaching way of tbanking has screwed him up and delayed. If not destroyed toid his professional career by trying to make him something he is not. He is a third baseman, not an outfielder, and he is a hard ground ball. Hitter with occasional home run power rather than a home run hitter. And yet they want him to be the opposite and I think. If they would have left him alone and put him at his natural position he would have a far better average than the current third baseman does

I think Harper was the correct answer 6 years ago, but part of that wasn't really his fault. I remember ESPN comparing him to Albert Pujols. Harper has never really been bad, but when you compare him to one of the best hitters this century he falls woefully short. He's had one truly great year (2015) and a very good year (2021) in his career and plenty of decent/good years, but he falls short of being truly elite to me. ESPN would have inducted him into the HOF after 2015.

@@bschaeffer12 He's 10th right now in WAR on the active list. And he is certainly on the trajectory to get there if he plays out his current contract without falling apart. He's right in line with guys like Jason Heyward, Marcus Semien, Cutch. His next highest WAR after his two great seasons is 4.4. Betts has 20 more WAR in 700 fewer PA. I just don't see HoF for Harper (right now).

If Harper stays healthy, he still has time to put up the counting stats with a long career, but Harper certainly isn't making Cooperstown with the dominance that was projected of him unless that comes inexplicably late in his career.

When it comes to analit is, I think Jordan Walker is a prime example how they are potentially bad for a player. I had rather see. A guy hit the ball hard on the ground. I'm rather than trying to get it in the air. Because the averages would say you're going to get far more hits by putting the ball in play. The New York home runs best friend by swinging for the fence. But that's just my opinion. I am old school and when I blade high school and babe Ruth We? It’s a poorly run organization that doesn’t prioritize winning. There is zero accountability for poor results, evidenced by the fact that the entire front office still has jobs as well as the egotistical manager who hasn’t accomplished anything. The city of St. Louis isn’t attracting players on its own unless they’re on a retirement tour. Sorry, but it’s not. If the organization isn’t competitive, no one is coming here.
