This situation is playing out in such a way that it’s a best case scenario for Mo. Think about it… 1. Bring in a good pitcher which we need. 2. Sleight of hand trick to pull Pallante but keep Lynn (or someone else) in the lineup. He’d hate to acknowledge that the best fans in baseball KNEW that was dumb to begin with. 3. Move a guy (Edman) who will perform better on another team but it allows Mo an out. He can always say, “well he was injured and we were trying to make a run.” 4. Bury Carlson in the minors rather than trade him because…well how would you explain his better performance in a new uniform.

No I didn’t . And I even checked MLB Trade Rumors prior to posting that. The fact that he hadn’t been traded (at least I thought) was why I posted in the first place.

Totally agree with you. Partially could be due to several injuries to that rotation, the players you'd trade may not have had value while hurt. Position player wise they don't have a lot of talent ready to come up necessarily to AAA if they moved the guys.

This trade is a massive win for the Cardinals. Edman had become superfluous. Good luck for him going forward. But now we have a great arm controlled through next season and a guy that can actually rake against right handed pitchers. All I’m on Detmers as well, unless broken. A live arm who has had even better games than Mikolas, …….along with the bad Mikolas side 🙄

He won't play daily. He can DH. Can play any spot out there. And will start vs LHP for Siani on occasion too.

They should have signed Pham when he was unsigned vey inexpensively. Crappy pitcher and inexpensive outfielder for Edman. Not a good trade. Stupid to not already have Pham. Stupid not to have signed a better starter when they floating around unsigned. Piss poor general management

Carlson needs to go. A fresh start could salvage his career. What I don't like about this trade is they actually shaved salary off and have no intention of using those savings to trade for more help. I am so tired of Dewitt crying poverty. Until they sell the team we are stuck in this rut, and the only way to force them to sell is a complete fan revolt and boycott. I just don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Not for nothing, talking about former Cardinals... Grich' has been solid off the bench (with some starting OF games) all year. He's .272 BA & .333 OBP as of right now.

The truth of the matter is Fedde and Gibson we are relying on to be our 2/3 starters, these guys have had multiple seasons with a 5 or 6 era. We are going to need to score runs to compete with playoff teams and this offense doesn’t have one hitter that pitchers fear. They desperately need an impact hitter
Do we even know if this Fedde is good? Have you seen his stats prior to this year? This team needs an impact bat in the 3 hole. The offense is glittered with .220-.230 hitters with about 7-12 homeruns and that’s why we get about 2 or 3 runs a game so often. It’s tough to watch
Why is Burleson in left can we send Oli with DC so tired of his mistakes Nootbaar needs to sit his average since all star break is .130 i understand sitting gorman but Donavon is not hitting any better at .160 since break

The Cards need a lot more than a middle rotation starter to make them anything more than a weak WC team. We have holes at many places. We're just stuck in a mediocre mode. Fedde helps for planning for next season. Truthfully I'd trade Heisley, he's the one that could bring some top prospects for a true reboot. Gorman needs to go to Memphis for reps if he's now a part time player. He'll never improve without major ABs.

I know you, and apparently the players, speak highly of Marmol. Rather than disrespect him, do you have a sense of what Shilt does that seems to just work. Or,is it just the case that he had better players with the Cards than Ollie has? Is it just the case that San Diego has a much better lineup, which I think they do. Yet, some times we see genius when he can keep a talented roster, one with a lot of big egos together ear? I do fear the Cardinals just miss something that they have not had. Since Yadi and Albert were gone. They tried a number of vertebrae’s, but the magic is still gone.
Better roster for Shildty. I don't think Marmol is perfect. I think he's got some things he could improve. But that could also come with time and experience. I think his savvy for the sport is strong. I think mostly players buy into his philosophies. Think about the stars shildty has on his team though. Cardinals don't have a Cease or a Fernando right now. Their stars aren't playing well.
Totally understand the veteran/payroll implications of our starter situation but man I think Lynn would be perfect out of the pen. With his pitch profile of just tossing heaters he could really unleash in short outings and it solves our missing righty problem.
Lynn is a better fit for the pen. That overrated “athlete” runs out of breath by the fifth anyway. Let him eat hot dogs, bring him into the 6th or 7th to pitch all out innings with his mediocre fastballs, then let him be in the clubhouse eating meatballs or whatever by the 9th.
What do we do with Matz when he returns????

Fedde's impact on the season is decent but the real impact is the playoffs and next year. He will make 10 or 11 starts for the cards and at his win rate he should give us 6-7 wins. However, the real impact is in the postseason as now we have a good 1-3 with Gray, Fedde and Gibson. We need to GET to the playoffs. The need now is a reliever, the bullpen is showing signs...

Pham was a head case in the past and he will be again. He’s a cancer in the clubhouse. I realize I’m in the minority here but he is not the answer. He will just add tension or worse. Just my opinion. Time will tell.

Team still stinks! Need a lot more than a bullpen arm. They’re just not good! It’s a lineup full of 6-7 hitters and you still have Stinkolas and Lance Lose in the rotation.

Turned out to be Phamtastic and Fedde for Edman. Now Carlson for Brebbia or even Carlson or Herrera, even Nootbar for Tanner Scott or Fairbanks!?! I have said the same thing about Cardinals screwing with his swing.Just tell Walker go out there have fun and let your natural talent take over.
Great trade, I would have traded Edman for Fedde. Getting Pham really makes this a great trade. If Mozaliak can pull off a deal for a reliever like Pete Fairbanks or Tanner Scott for Carlson or even Herrera and prospects, I won't complain about Mozaliak the rest if the year.❤
