A High School Varsity rivalry game I umpired a runner was caught in a run down between 2nd and 3rd. Five throws later the ball was in the 3rd base dugout leading to 2 unearned runs enroute to a 1 run loss. 3 weeks later I umped another game involving that team and asked the catcher how the practices went the week after the big rivalry game. He said they were hell, spending significant time on run downs.........

That two way rundown is fucking epic. Great situational awareness by the 3rd base runner to initiate going home

Javy Baez did that in the MLB a couple years ago with the Cubs, and ended up getting 2nd base out of it! It was wild.

Does anyone remember a game maybe in the early 2000s....I think it was rays vs jays, where almost all of the players around the bases were caught in rundowns, but after a billion throws, everyone was safe....I think possibly even a few runs scored on the play because of a few errors. I can't find a video of that anywhere.

No, the runner establishes his own base path and since he ran more towards the grass, the base path extended into a small part of the grass area.
