    @M if you hate baseball so much why are you even bothering to watch? Do you come here just to talk shit? Like most everything else in this world, whether a person likes a sport, or not is completely subjective. It is monumentally immature, not to mention literally impossible to attempt to quantify the merits of one, or the other. Anyone who attempts to do so in order to sway another person's opinion is honestly a complete moron..

    How can they not include "The Catch" by Willie Mays in the 1954 World Series, which is still considered the greatest catch ever. He caught the ball over his head about 425 ft from home plate after running 115 ft and took only 1.3 seconds from making the catch to making The Throw, back into the infield to prevent the runner on second from scoring. At the time it was the 8th inning with score tied at 2. Not only was it an incredible catch and incredible throw, the context was critical in the game, which is why it's remembered 66 years later. So it's mind boggling how it was not included in this video, IMHO.

  • @gsjackson34

    @gsjackson34

    2 жыл бұрын

    In all honesty, both of Jim Edmonds' catches in center running with his back to the plate and diving headlong for the ball were more spectacular. And while I've never seen anything more of Mays' throw than how he releases it, that wasn't exactly textbook. He didn't throw it on a line; he was killing pigeons. But yeah, taken in historical context, it might be the most famous catch ever made.

    Or Devon White's play in the '92 WS in aforementioned Mays style which caused a double play and nearly a triple play. How bout Pillar's home run stealing catch on Jackie Robinson Day in 2015 ? I was with my kid to see that one the fans gave him a 5 minute ovation because it reminded them of Devon White catch.

  • @sportsfaniguess154

    @sportsfaniguess154

    While that was an incredible play, I think this is mostly about the catch itself, like diving catches, ridiculous jumps, Donaldson diving in between stuff, etc. there have been plenty of over the head catches like Jim Edmonds’ but you are correct, none were more important plays than that of Willie Mays, which was less impressive because of the catch itself, more impressive because of the context, run, throw, stadium, stuff like that. But I still think that should’ve been in the video.

    One of the best catches I have ever seen was by Hechavarria against the Royals when he vertical for an absolute screaming line drive. From my POV it looked like he went 6 feet straight in the air. I have seen some amazing catches in baseball but that one ranks towards the top of list for me. Lightening fast reflexes and uncanny athletic ability.

    While the catch wasn't all that great, it's the running up the wall the way he did was jaw dropping. But I do believe that Bo made the greatest catch of all time when he turned into superman and launched himself about 20 feet to catch a line drive headed for the gap. I've never seen another player even attempt something like that, but since Bo had a habit of making great plays look routine, that,s the only reason why he is not on this video.

    @@Tboy439 I can only remember one player making a similar flying catch, Andruw Jones. He played for the Braves; Tommy Glavin was pitching. The hitter had connected pretty well in a high fly ball over Tommy's head. Where the camera spanned, there was no one there, and the ball was coming in for a landing. From the left, off screen, here comes Jones, airborne, making a gorgeous diving catch. The look on Glavin's face was priceless; eyes as wide as saucers, mouthing the word W-O-W. It's etched in my brain.
