Mixing Up a Storm: Learn to Make the Category 5

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The other day, after the Hurricane episode premiered, I got a message on Instagram from a guy who was selling these incredibly illustrated hurricane glasses. He asked if he could send me one. When it arrived, it came with a drink card in it. I couldn't NOT do the recipe, right??

Another great one Spike. Thanks for remaking the Menehune juice. Im a Chef and I know if you change portions of ingredients or change a recipe at all. It will greatly affect the taste and flavor profile. The way you follow the recipes and the traditional glasses you serve your cocktails in, is the reason I watch your show. You're a true "Cocksmith" can't wait to order the glasses. And damn, you could make some sick Breezeway pins.

Great video as usual! Thanks for flying the Tiki flag (pretty much solo) throughout the whole pandemic. What I think makes this drink work is that the Campari acts the way a couple of dashes of bitters would AND the combination of Coruba and OFTD gets you at least 80% of the way to the flavor profile of Kohala Bay (RIP). PS After next week's move, I may have some stuff to send you. I'll keep you posted in case it's something of interest.

Hey Spike, don't have a Sonic here on the central coast, but I did find that our local am/pm sells bags of their crushed ice as well. Might be helpful the next time Sonic is doing another commercial in your neck of the woods. Also loved that you revisited last weeks episode and glad we both felt the same about both drinks. Cheers and Aloha!!

What Campari? I watched you twice to [9:05]. You had a taste of Campari in a sherbet glass, and hated it. Then you skipped it. I saw lime, OJ, Demerara syrup, Coruba, Overproof rum, Sonic ice -- and then the blown out umbrella. No Campari -- unless it was off-camera... But you could still taste Compari. I found out they used to use Carmine dye in Campari -- made from shells of cochineal bugs. They stopped that in 2006. I'll skip the bug juice.

@@BreezewayCocktailHour No worries, Brah. Not rushing out to get Campari, Aperol or Gentian Violet extract. Quite happy with Falernum and Orgeat. I made the mistake of trying to sub in Jaegermeister for Allspice/Pimento Dram. It did not work. In the '50s my Grandfather used to give me spoonfuls of Pertussin cough syrup. The FDA cracked down in the '60s on Pertussin, and they had to change their formula for other ingredients from the original snake oil/medicine show formula. It didn't work anymore, and they folded. But the gak tasted just like Jager.

@@BreezewayCocktailHour I’m sure! Lol you made such a big deal about how much you didn’t like it I was watching to see how much you added...or if you skipped it entirely 😂 I just wanted to let you know that this channel is great. I’ve really gotten into making cocktails over the past two years and the tiki variety has become my go to. I’m hoping to turn my music room/studio into a very tiki themed lounge. A large problem is that I live in southern Vermont and tiki is not common. So I’m on my own except books and finding people like you and your channel on line! Love the drinks, love the channel! Keep them coming dude! The Bali Bali seems to be my favorite right now!
