In this video I am showing how to play a 12 bar blues combining chords and leads into one guitar. I break everything down, and explain what I am playing on the hand of tabs.

Thank you so much for this. I am 68 and have decided to start playing my guitar again. I'm not a beginner do your videos are perfect
your videos are great without exception this one however is iconic, there is a step that’s taken here that moves a player in to better playing and also better understanding!!!
Paul, for me, you're the best teacher on KZread. I haven't had a chance to even look at anybody else's stuff since I found your place. Great job, we all really appreciate it; thank you for helping and sharing.

Off. To. As in 'Hats off to Paul'.
Easily one the best and most concise electric blues guitar lessons on KZread!! I cherish these lessons because not only do they challenge me and present new ideas but also combine so many great techniques and concepts/theory into one great lesson that furthers my playing so nicely!! Cool kitty as well!! Jim C.
Someone said you are the best teacher on KZread, I have to agree. Hands down. Thanks.
You are an excellent teacher. You stick to the lesson. Show it at multiple speeds and explain it as you go. I even understood how you added the Dorian because you explained it so simply and clearly. I will only need a few hours of practice to start getting this into muscle (and ear) memory. Thank you so much for your excellent tutelage.
Paul....two words. Thank YOU. Its videos and people like you that motivate me to sit in front of a laptop for hours on end by myself with my awesome guitars and play the night away.
great job! I really appreciate the effort you put into this with all the video editing and the writing the score, and breaking it down and explaining both the Frets to press and the chord steps the notes fall onto. still trying to wrap my head around how a minor scale can be played on major chords.
One of you best videos. Easy to follow. Please make more blues and rock vids like this with tab, thank you!
Wow , all this time ive been wondering how this works , how and why it fits, and you gave all the answers in such a simple but elegant form. Thanks for your wisdom and great humour.
"Staccato which means Play it short" - Paul Davids Thanks for the awesome lesson, Paul.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm a metal guitarist. I can PLAY a whole lot of stuff technically speaking, but being self-taught, finding out how to SOUND the right way for other genres of music is one thing I've come to realize I really, REALLY struggle with. This has so much information I find very valuable.
Now that's what I call a "Blues Cat"! This was a challenge to get down, but it has helped me immensely! Thank you!
Your lessons are like a really good meal. Thank you very much for this lesson. Cant wait for more!!
Been playing guitar religiously for 20+ years and you make me feel like I'm a beginner :) Thank you so much!
Finally you got 1M subscribers, well deserved my friend thanks for all the information that you provide.
This is absolutely one of the best blues guitar tutorials ever. Thx! CANADA
Great lesson, Paul! This lead and chords combination is challenging, a lot going on here, a lot to work on. Thank you!
"It sounds like gibberish...just play it " sounds like my whole approach to guitar playing...You're a genius, no doubt about it. Good luck to all. Your videos are amazing.
Echt zalige video's! Ben blij dat er iemand is van de lage landen die goede gitaarvideo's maakt. keep up man!
Just what I've been looking for, that sound you create is something I've known I've wanted but untill coming across your sight I didn't think I would find it, please start a blues course like this and I'd be the first to sign up, thanks a lot for what your doing please keep this going.
Always love watching a new video of yours, brightens my day for sure :) keep up the good work
I'll always need to watch a few times, first watch I just smile at how you make your lessons, with all your marvellous editing, really great job
Paul thanks for the vid. Very tidy, bluesy, simple and informative way of getting into real licks. Yet, very humour oriented and not boring. cheers

Best quality KZread vids he really is the goat on here
I'm 78 and played classical guitar for over 60 years do to my fingers locking up I bought a Gretsch guitar I fine your video very helpful since I know my way around the fret board ,I do use my thumb and that's where my problem is. My advise to new guitarists practice slow and be musical. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Started this year (Jan 2017) on acoustic and got an electric a couple of months ago but was stuck in a "rythm rut" cause it took me forever to figure out volume, tone and amp settings... Am now "transitioning" my playing time towards a greater balance between the two and this is exactly what the doctor ordered as I focused strictly on rythm for the first 4-5 months. Have a shitload of songs but no licks between chords. Your lesson truly gave me the road map to my focus for the remainder of the year! Thank you so much for this fantastic tutorial, brother.
Wonderfull lesson man, now i Can impress my teacher with this. THANK you so much:)
Thanks for your lessons ! I was watching your video and playing along and I like the Vibrato's and I was watching how you shook your hand and wrists to get that cool sound , and I learned a lot already just by watching this video ! Thanks Paul once more !!! :)
I love your videos man! You play some beautiful sounding stuff!
Excellent clear instruction with notation......brilliant . Thanks Geoff
More like this please! been playing guitar for years (self taught) and have a really hard time soloing, as I don't know much theory, but this is helping me break into it slowly. Thanks a bunch, keep it up

Un grand merci pour ce tuto superbe , un des plus sympas et interessants. Je me suis abonné et vais continuer à regarder vos licks surtout en a. Merci Paul.
It's so cool! Everything is clear and accessible. Although I don't understand English, I got the gist. Thank you for recording free lessons.
GOOD WORK PAUL, PLEASE CONTINUE WHISH YOU BEST'S THINGS. Karim from France
Im glad im not the only one with a cat that constantly needs to sit with you when you play guitar😂😂😂
Paul I love your videos man! They have brought me back to the guitar and now I'm learning and practicing more then ever! Got this down in a week. Also using the looping extension from chrome and adjusting the speed of the video makes it perfect to play along with the beginning of the video. I put the loop between 00:00 and 00:25 and that makes a perfect loop. adjusting it from 0,5 gradually to 0,7 and 0,8 and 0,9 and..1! I can finally jam along! Maybe this trick helps some other people as well!

Hi Joshua: can you help me: what is the "looping extension" from chrome? I cannot find it; only the speed-adjustment feature but "looping" is something different, or am I mistaken?
Thanks. You always inspire me to improve.
whats not to like, clear, concise and tabs, thanks Paul
Your tongue in cheek demeanor works well with your expertise in guitar knowledge and technique. Although a bit pompous in delivery, considering you're very talented and offering free instruction, I won't miss any lesson you publish. Many thanks and a hearty thumbs up!
Excellent video Paul! So was your Blues rhythm guitar video excellent as well!! Thank you Paul!!
So I'm in the very very early stages of learning guitar (like 2 months in) so the content in these videos videos make no sense to me yet, but I just love this guys approach to the videos and how he makes them. They're so interesting, even if they don't make sense to my skill level.
Very, very cool lesson. It took me a few days to get this under my fingers but the result is some very tasty licks and chords under my belt. Thanks
Awesome. Thanks for sharing such beautiful piece of knowledge. You are great
Major Pentatonic, Minor Pentatonic, Dorian and Mixolydian mode; add a chromatic scale to it and you just sum up the framework I use for blues... and for too much other stuff too. You're very good at music and at teaching. Love your vids !
Just found this. Wow what a melody and beautiful note selection. Love it!!!
You play so smooth and classy!
hey Paul love the lesson, must of taken a good few, l learned something lol, have great Christmas and happy new year , thanks for everything , 🤠😎
Thanks man! This vid really helped me get a feel for the blues
Great lesson, great playing.
amazing lesson you taught me soo much. thank you for your work
Wow Paul, this is a fantastic lesson and tutorial ... I almost feel the summoning of Duane Allman! Magnifical...
I love it. Thank you my friend. The truth is I love all your video's.
Right to the point, very very relevant and helpful. Thanks much, great work.
A truly sweet piece of work. Awesome
awesome lesson and very cool Paul
absolutely great that you add a little theory...what scales and why. Makes the lesson much more valuable than just saying play these notes here and there....which is the content of much you tube instruction.
Hey Paul, i see the quality in your playing, actually it oozes, tone, timing, pieces to learn, you are someone that inspires me, shame you don't live close to me, but then what a nightmare that would be haha. I'm 'mid-life crisis guy' taking up playing guitar, get lessons from a cool dude who is a perfectionist (like you) i like that, what has inspired me is your choice of 12 bar 'stuff' because its very easy (for me) to play the licks, (The inverted A7 is new, but love it!) I've spent all day on this and its a revelation... why? - you explain whats going on: scale, chord inversions, and each lick is easy to digest and simple over the chords. OMG I sound like I'm good!! and YOU did that so THANK YOU VERY much for that :-) Anyhow this is what I want to say to you :) do MUCH more of this on UTube for free, building a fan base, do some marketing research to see what others like you (check the USA) are doing and fill in the gaps, for me thats accenting the beat and same on 2 and 4 |(I struggle and NO ONE teaches this!!) learning how to practice, using a metronome correctly (play until IT sounds good not you), picking up your rhythm from the drums, how to start improvising, playing blues Major (dom7) over minor penta - why? what is Mixolydian in a blues context? create a course for people to go from beginner to blues improvising and sell that for a £100 - based on what I see on your channel I'd pay... why? because I know you can play and I know you can teach things in a way that I understand plus you want to do it, so you are motivated - right? Big appologies for a long comment, all this is a good thing being a mid-life crisis kinda guy - I know some stuff :) and my teacher is amazing, like you! BTW talk about your amp, settings, pedals, guitar, tone and pickups. How can I sound like you on bread and butter kit? Thanks again Paul, subscribing was VERY easy. My feedback is there to help you. Everyone wants to be cool these days without putting in the work, be honest with us! at best you will inspire a few very successful guitarist |(I hope so anyway) and at worst you will save a few (many) folks from wasting their time. LOL Now that has to be the comment of the century!!
Thanks for this excellent video. Great exposition!😎🖤💛
That's what I needed. You make me cry bro...
Your musical knowledge and talent are amazing
It took awhile to nail it, but this is so much fun to play. Thanks for the awesome lesson Paul. You've got a big fan downunder!
What a lovely tone, what a great lesson!
I incorporated some of these cool licks into my playing. Thank you...awesome video.
Fabulous stuff. Thank you.
Amazing . Thanks for your great work
Inspirational . Truly
Love it!!! Gonna try it out.
Fantastic. Love the targeting notes in the progression aspect. More of these please - and jazz angle too :)
sooooo clear, and well written solo.
Nice playing dude! You are a great teacher!
That was great! Can you do more on modes and switching between them?
WOW! Your playing is exactly what I aspire to.
Great lessons.. looks like you may be hitting the 3 million subs soon. Congratulations 🎈
it IS an awesome sounding 12-bar blues
Love this lick. Thanks Paul ❤
Hey Paul, I love your Videos, they are covering exactly what i want to learn on the Guitar, and not just how you play the A-minor Pentatnoic/Blues scale. You show us how to use them! I also just learned the Johnny B Goode Riff from you. So this is pretty simple if you once got the muscle memory. Hence my Question: Did you improvised this Blues with the inspiration of Chuck Berry, if so, could you tell us how you improvise, especially how to use the special notes of the Dorian/mixolydian scales? Did you said to yourself right before the Jam:"I will use those notes over the D chord" or did you just felt like it in the heat of the moment? Im new to imporv and i would really appreciate your advice. You are one of the few guitar teachers here on youtube who know what the students what to learn and you teach it so amazing, i hope you will never stop doing lessons like this. Thanks in advanced.
You do the best job of explaining what you are playing, if I was advanced enough to really understand what Dorian, or Mixilodian really is in context withe what you are playing.
I wrote to Merriam Webster, I advised to add a link to this video in their definition for "awesome"
Paul a awesome presentation ! I like it and this old feller is gonna try some blues, Thank you
