The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a mid-sized SUV that competes with the Nissan Qashqai and the Mazda CX-5. It’s a striking car to look at, and a comfortable one, too - although adults in the rear seats will pay the price for that cool-looking rear end. The Eclipse Cross doesn’t have the interior flair of the Peugeot 3008, nor can it match the SEAT Ateca’s involving driving experience - but the Mitsubishi is a distinctive and safe SUV and its 1.5-litre petrol engine is smooth in general use. Avoid the unpleasant CVT automatic gearbox, though.

The models you mention have small power outputs and hence the higher MPG. So it's an unfair comparison. One thing for sure is that the Mitsubishi will be more reliable than any of them

That 1.0 litre Ateca never manages 50+ mpg in the real world. Our Vauxhall Zafira 1.4T gets nowhere near it's claimed MPG because of the small engine hauling around a large car.

Saw one of these on the road and I have to say the styling is very smart in the flesh. The front end looks fantastic. Very sharp and modern. It nicely avoids the generic looks that most of its rivals are lumbered with.

I hired one of these for 10 days on New Zealand South Island and thoroughly enjoyed it. The 1.5 CVT was smooth and pokey enough whilst the handling and lack of body roll was ideal for the twisty mountain roads. All-in-all a much better car than UK motoring critics ever acknowledged.

The 1.5 turbo engine is adequate for a crossover. Why would you need more power? Also this is one of the best cvt transmissions to date. The CR-V is much bigger and also has a 1.5 turbo engine. It delivers more power but the CR-V is also heavier. The Peugeot 3008 looks great. but how will it's reliability fair compared to Mitsubishi that is known for reliability. The interior of the eclipse cross is the best Mitsubishi has done in years. It's unlikely you will be touching your dashboard often so why complain about the hard plastic that will likely age better than the other materials?.

For one you’re behind the times, people use their phones for nav and 6ft4” test riders have sat in the backseat and thought it plenty of headroom as well as the boot space was plenty since the backseat is movable. Moreover it rates high and superior to EURO crash test to the Peugeot 3008. So your 5’4” bod and your Peugeot w/out the safety bells and whistles this car has can move along!

I thought the C-HR was borrowing some of Honda's design language, but it seems the Eclipse Cross is too - the rear lights (and partly obscured rear screen) remind me of a gen 9 Civic, and the side windows the gen 8 Civic. Just a bit, mind.

ast5515 British car journalists have an obsession with soft touch plastics. But they don't seem to realise that in countries with extremely high temperatures and and lots of sunlight plastics that are a harder stand up better and are less prone to cracking. Soft touch plastics are not necessarily higher quality.

  • @ast5515

JDM Guy My problem lies elsewhere. Go sit in a VW Arteon. Feels high quality, right? Not really. Everything you touch creaks. I mean everything that isn't the steering wheel. Kia, Hyundai, Mazda, Peugeot, Citroen and oddly enough Dacia build high quality interiors. Granted I don't know every model from these manufacturers, there might be a few models that are below avarage. But I was really surprised by the new Duster for example. Everything you touch is solid.

I dont need to watch this video to know that it will be negative towards the Mitsubishi, and probably a sales pitch for some other brand. Dreadful channel. Carwow is another one I cant watch. Similar, dismissive and very negative reviews, the presenter seems to actually make a joke out of some cars, unless its for so called fashionable, trendy brands. OSV Car Reviews and Car Obsession are the best two UK channels in my opinion. Great presenters, like Top Gear was in the very early days. Honest, positive reviews, telling us why you should buy that particular car, and not giving you loads of reasons as to why you shouldnt. Sales staff at your local dealer would be out of a job if they did that to customers.

I'm still annoyed they called it an eclipse. It's the car equivalent of the ghostbusters remake.

Another biased reviewer who spends all their time finding negative points instead of the positives. Imagine a car salesperson at your local dealer behaving the same way. They would be out of a job. "Don't buy this Sir because its not as good as a Peugeot" etc. Its not up to you to tell us what we should or shouldn't like about a car. She obviously doesnt like CVTs or even understands them. I have never had a problem with them. Worst car review channel on KZread. I wouldnt subscribe if it was the only website available !
