Mitsubishi seems to really prioritize reliability and serviceability on their vehicles. Nothing is unnecessarily complicated. Everything is easy to work on. As a person who keeps vehicles long term and works on them myself, I have a real appreciation for this aspect of Mitsubishi vehicles for this reason. Unfortunately, appreciation for that kind of thing seems to be in the minority, in North America anyway.

Completely agree. I have appreciated Mitsubishi’s simplicity after a 2003 Montero was our most reliable vehicle. We bought a second, and haven’t had any issues. All I hear from others is anti-Mitsubishi garbage about how they don’t have “cool” cars anymore, meanwhile almost every car sold this decade has been a crossover. I’ll try to continue buying Mitsubishi’s, however I’ll never stray from the Japanese brands as a whole.

My Mitsubishi has been VERY reliable. Its my 5th one.

I'm loving the under-hood engineering here. Mitsubishi (at least here in the US) offers a really long powertrain warranty and it's obvious that they've engineered this one to last. A modern turbocharged engine but with dual-injection, easy maintenance, and keeping things as simple as possible to improve reliability. Awesome. People dump on Mitsubishi for their designs being dated but IMHO that's a good thing. If you plan to keep a car a long time, simple proven technology is the best choice. Would love to see a mechanical review of the Mirage if you get the chance!

Ｉbought my Mitsu. Galant in 2003. It served me 17 years! with 160k trouble free miles. On 01/01/2020, the timing belt broke, and that's the end of it. Back in the 90s, Mittsu. used to buld great vehicles, like other Japneses car manufacture.

1g2002541 It seems that their cars are still built to last, according to this review! I love my 2003 montero, and my only complaint is I wish Mitsubishi still made a 4wd suv like it. From what I see, this awd system is pretty impressive, but I’m loyal to 4wds.

I run The Mitsubishi Eclipse cross owners group UK. Although the interior plastics are ' thinner ' - to me the dash design is lovely. The black gloss scratches really easily , but look after it and it looks great. It's my first ever Mitsubishi, and it's good to hear about their engineering and reliability. I've been with Toyota for Rav4's for 20 years.... until now. The latest Rav4 was far too expensive.

@@gauravmarwaha8466 the Rav4 is a superb " Recreational Activity Vehicle with 4wd " As long as you avoid the 2.2 d4d engine, they blow head gasket globally. The Rav4 was the original 4wd Activity Vehicle invented years ago. Everyone else then made something similar. Personally, I'd have another one tomorrow... if I could afford one. I'm not overly keen on design of the 2016 version, but that's it... Check out Rav4 drivers club , I'm on there as Rambler. Good members with helpful info.👍 I like the Eclipse cross, its only bad thing is fuel on my 4wd. But , its very comfortable , quiet and lovely to drive.

Mitsubishi make reliable vehicles, I hate when people like scotty kilmer misleads the masses. And say mitsubishi is not good. He judges mitsubishi based on cars in the early 80's, he has not driven or worked on any new mitsubishi vehicles. Mitsubishi engines are rock solid and much better than honda new engines , mazda and Kia. Honda old engines are legendary, toyota engines are the best.

@@AKZreadChannelwithNoName I would say mitsubishi is on par with toyota in terms of petrol engine , but toyota is still better. Toyota also has better hybrid system than mitsubishi. But You can safely buy mitsubishi and get reliability. You can't say the same for kia and Hyundai. Mazda uses sky active which is just mazda version of gasoline direct injection. There are flaws with gdi engines, such as carbon build up. Your engine self destructs gradually if you don't clean your intake valves. You also need to use premium gas and proper synthetic oil. Mitsubishi and toyota use multi port injection, which has an injector over the intake valves that clean the valves, this prevents carbon build up. Kia and Hyundai also uses gdi engines. Honda new earth dream engines suffer from failing head gaskets in cold weather.

@@AKZreadChannelwithNoName Well Toyota does use parts made by Mitsubishi, must mean something. Toyota is leading edge, up to date technology, which isn't always a good thing. Mitsubishi a bit more old school, but it's proven and reliable. All these new engines with gdi, turbo, trying to force more power from a small engine. Look at the issues they are having. My Mitsubishi RVR has a 'dated' Mivec 2.0l. Starts every time, easy to work on when maintenance comes, acceptable power output, good fuel economy...and bulletproof. Works for me. It comes down to 2 things. Do you want the latest and greatest in technology, or something that has been around a while and is proven to be reliable? With Mitsubishi you don't get the up most in latest technology, but you can be sure of always making it to where you are going, and back again. Plus Mitsubishi are still made in Japan, not some third world country. Just my 2 cents.

@@Yellow-Rose not all jatco cvt are bad, don't listen to scotty kilmer. Mitsubishi and nissan has different transmission designs. Nissan cvt are very bad , mitsubishi transmission are ok. They don't give trouble. I have seen some mitsubishi cvt transmission outlast cvt transmission from toyota.

1 2019 Outlander 2.4L. 122,000 miles never had a problems. Changed the oil and transmission fluid regularly

These are amazing videos you do. This is info in detail that could never find anywhere else about my Eclipse Cross. Keep it up please! Lower trims do have less features inside for sure but for 2020 they fixed that somewhat and early next year they are releasing an updated 2022 Eclipse Cross but got rid of the split rear window, which is my favorite part personally. When we bought our 2 Eclipse Crosses we chose the SEL Touring’s because of all the features like black leather with orange stitching, dual panoramic roof and the front one opens and the rear has its own shade control, all the advanced safety features and driving aids like forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane change assist, blinding spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, radar cruise with auto stop and go, auto high beams, 4 level adjustable led headlights, rain sensing wipers, 7 air bags, power driver seat, power folding side mirrors when you lock car or by button on door, 360 multi view camera with steering wheel button to change views, heated steering wheel, heated front, heated rear seats, 710 watt 9 speaker rockford fosgate audio system, push button start and keyless access and entry, led tail lights, reclining and sliding rear seats, 3 mode push button s-awc system (auto/snow/gravel), electric parking brake with hold, lighted and sliding visor mirrors, auto dimming rear view mirror with home link buttons, dual zone auto climate control, paddle shifter for cvt with 8 programmed fake shift points (I will never use accept maybe on a steep grade to slow down or going down hill in snow), 18 inch alloy wheels and more! The Mitsubishi Connect App that comes with Eclipse Cross SE and SEL is great and can remote start and stop my car, put the rear defrost on and change interior temp, activate lights, activate horn, set speed alerts, find car, get text on everything your car does or if alarm goes off, see miles driven each day, geofencing, and so many personal preference settings to the car can be changed even down to how long the rear wiper runs, the strength of air conditioning (comfort or eco), headlight settings and so so much more and it has a call center and sos button and that notifies Mitsubishi if air bags deploy or you can call if you have questions or just need info. Also the Eclipse Cross has excellent crash ratings! It is very safe even in driver and passenger small overlap crash tests. This can also do light off roading as it has 8.5 inches of ground clearance. Check out TFL off-road video on Eclipse Cross. But where the S-AWC with torque vectoring really shines is in bad weather. In rain, snow or sleet this vehicle is so secure and safe feeling while driving at speed. When you turn or make a quick maneuver this S-AWC keeps you right on track. In gravel mode you can really feel the difference in the rear end and how it pushes power in the snow. The gravel mode is its strongest setting giving you 70% front 30% rear and can adjust all the way to 40% front 60% rear giving it very good traction. I love the safety and adjustability of the S-AWC.

I'm a little disappointed that majority of people who review this car says its engine is direct injection, because that is a big factor for me. I rather have a port or dual injection vehicle. Very smart that they made it dual injection. What else I got from you is that it sounds like a simple engine, which in my mind makes it seem like it would be more reliable. Great video!

@@enriquejosekravetzmalabud8530 do it! I did not experience any major problems for the past 4 1/2 years. Currently running 96k in my odometer. The only thing I have replaced are my brake pads, battery and spark plugs. So far so good and its a fast car.

The eclipse went from a coupe evo to an SUV. You are awesome by the way. I'm calling you Rev Doctor from now on. Subbed!!!

agree and disagree...bought a used '15 Outlander Sport with almost 42k miles on it and on the 3rd day of owning it the transmission gave out. Luckily, it was, of course, under warranty and Mits took replaced it for free, but at the same time, 42k miles and it already gave out? Looked up the VIN in their website and pulled up all the services that were done, so there was no mistreatment on the previous owners side. Hence, why agree and disagree with your statement

@@applepoop10 I bought my daughter one as her first car and she loves it. A $10K car with heated seats, power fold mirror, android auto, and great gas mileage (2 weeks between refuels), and 10year warranty. It cant be beat.

i got mine back 2018 and never had any issue.

I'm impressed with Mitsubishi keeping it simple, everything looks nicely balanced and laid out . Servicing couldn't be easier, and remember they have a great warranty like Hyundai and Kia I has a 2018 Outlandet Sport and it was not bad at all.

Great mechanical breakdown! Really appreciate the thoroughness in your videos! Would like to hear your mechanical breakdown and opinions on a 2016-2020 Mitsubishi Outlander GT with the V6 and 6 speed automatic transmission.

I am really impressed with the mechanical build quality and lack of rust. Only thing is potential weaping but that could have just been one mistake covered under warrenty. The fram filter just shows not a lot of care from the current owner. I think you nailed ot though, the EV era is coming and they know it!

Great video, last time I had the car in for an oil change the tech allowed me to take a look at the undercarriage while it was on the lift. Very impressive. Coming from owning 4x4's and now have a 2018 eclipse cross LE im very satisfied with everything the car can do. On the note of CVT. This is a wonderful CVT, the simulated 8-speed with manual sport shifting has allowed me to put the turbo to good work and pass dumb people that shouldn't be allowed on the road. This car with its S-AWC system is great for rainy days, I recently drove in a crazy rain storm here on the east coast, and I can launch from a stop light without any slipping and it acts like its dry pavement. Just sticks. I wish I had done my own in depth review of the car when I first bought it, everyone that reviews the press cars miss so much especially on this one. Even being 2020 now they still miss some of the best features inside. But the biggest problem I see is the fact that everyone says its slow and not sporty. I can say, I've overtaken cars on corners and if you drive it correctly it can launch you back in the seat from a dead stop. This CVT has the torque close to a hybrid electric drive, dont get me started on numbers. But ill say, inputting all the math frontal sq. Area and other specs into my obd2 tester and monitor system, I peaked just over 200hp and well above the ft lbs of torque that is speed out from mitsubishi. I live at sea level and so I'm able to compress more air to get better numbers is my hypothesis. Last note I read the owners manual cover to cover. First in my life and it was very informative, in "high heat" environments mitsubishi says to run premium gas. (93) in my area. And wow, just wow! The responsiveness is crazy good. I scared my mother one day getting up to speed for the highway. Its earns the title of Eclipse Cross in my book.

Last note on the car subject. At 55mph on highway I get between 34-43mpg avg. At 70mph I get 25-28mpg. And the 70mph speed with premium gas in the tank i get avg of 31mpg. Yes you read correctly I got better overall gas mileage on premium fuel grades than on 87. The car works less hard and its noticed on the coolant temp too I run 10 degree cooler with premium sitting in traffic or in a parking lot after just driving around than I do with 87 octane.

Great comment. I would agree with everything you say. Your right they are not slow they are super peppy for a 3,516 lb suv (my trim SEL Touring) and that small 1.5L turbo 4 can really pull off the line! Mine does amazing in the rain and snow and sleet with the s-awc it just keeps you right where you want to go. Gravel mode really pushes power to the rear. I have ran 91 octane fuel where I live in md and I can tell a difference I think also vs 87 octane. Go was TFL Eclipse Cross off road video if you have not already its neat.

@@tooltime9260 I hear what your saying, I live in a area that is absolutely diverse in the amount of different drivers that come from all parts of the country. We have too many people that love to "race" on the streets. I sold my EC and now own a RAV4 Hybrid and funny thing it's faster than my EC. Especially from a light. And it's far superior at mpg even when doing so. But most just are trying to get away from a bad selection of drivers or are always late for work. I selectively overtake, but I study driving and am always looking at flow several cars ahead to anticipate where I should be to efficiently get where I need to with the least amount of issue. Some days I'll do the actual speed limit on the highway in the middle or fast lane. It's legal to do so. Other days I'll just set my radar cruise and flow with traffic.

@@AlejandroP1980s The Outlander is bigger than the Eclipse Cross and the Outlander has 3 rows. They are bringing out a completely new Outlander in around 6 months. Look up 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander. They are also bringing out and updated Eclipse Cross in like 4 months if you look up 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. Both are gonna be sharp. I have owned 5 Mitsubishis and love them, 7 of us at my work own them and one girls is a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer CVT with over 165,000 miles!

Great reviews!...I'll love to see a review on mustang 2017 and up EcoBoost.

Given its price, this seems like a pretty well designed vehicle, straightforward, not overly complicated, and looks fairly easy to work on. Of course, I suspect many of the people who buy this car or not interested in such things

The Mitsubishi GS platform, has been developed by Mitsubishi themselves, Chryslers platform is based off of the Mitsubishi platform, not the other way around

Our 2 new fully loaded Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SEL Tourings with S-AWC are truly loaded. I do hate on lower trims where they have blank switches to the left of the steering wheel as it looks cheap where as mine being a top trim has the led headlight leveling switch there, lane departure warning switch, forward collision button, traction control button, 3 heads up display buttons for brightness, height and to raise and lower the heads up display and all. Some of my favorite features in our Eclipse Crosses are the dual panoramic roof and how the rear people get their own power shade too, push start and keyless access, power driver seat, apple car play android auto, 3 mode s-awc (normal-snow-gravel) power folding heated side mirrors, in car sos & caller center button telematics, remote start by app and climate control setting and more, rain sensing wipers, 360 degree camera for front-side-rear and birds eye over head view with park assist, dual zone automatic climate control, leather, 710 watt 9 speaker rockford fosgate audio system, adjustable rear seating sliding and reclining, led lighting inside and out, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, heated front seats, all the driver safety aids, level adjusting led headlights, 10 year warranty and much much more! Plus we have owned 5 new Mitsubishis now over the years and have loved them for their features, reliability, simplicity, warranty and just overall brand satisfaction. When we bought our 2 Eclipse Cross SEL Touring’s last October we got right around $7,000.00 off the MSRP on our 2 new Eclipse Crosses and got a top trim one with accessories and the touring package and only paid a tad more than what a base model Eclipse Cross cost due to Mitsubishi rebates, dealer discounts, loyalty cash and more! We love ours! This was a great video. So you think they seem to be build pretty good the engine and overall structure? I know its an older GS platform and they based the 1.5L Turbo engine off of an older engine design of theirs but these are some of the main reasons I like Mitsubishi as they use times tested and proven power trains and structures. One question I cannot get a clear answer on is does the Eclipse Cross have a CVT-7 like the Mirage and Mirage G4 (I owned a 2015 Mirage ES and 2017 Mirage G4 SE) use or does it use the larger CVT-8? Do you know? I know its programmed different than our 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GTs CVT was where as the Eclipse Cross feels like its shifting at times and had 8 simulated gears where our 2.4L Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT just winded up and held there for power and was quite peppy just like this 1.5L Turbo is. Great video ai mean that.

Mine was right around $32,500.00 msrp as it also had all weather Mitsubishi mats, cargo mat, cargo net, front and rear silver garnishes and such. I got mine for just under $26,000.00 after Mitsubishi rebates, renn kirby Mitsubishi discounts and Mitsubishi loyalty cash. Then our Red Diamond SEL with the $2,500.00 Touring Package and S-AWC was like $34,005.00 msrp as it was $595.00 for the special Red Diamond paint (neat several step paint process if you read on it), front and rear garnishes, front, rear and side rocker molding sport package in carbon look with red trim. We got it for $27,000.00 after the Mitsubishi rebate, renn kirby Mitsubishi discounts and Mitsubishi loyalty cash. We could not beat the deals anywhere and got the same deal when we bought our 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport GT AWC there and both my 2015 and 2017 Mitsubishi Mirages. We also looked at Subarus, Honda, Nissan and Toyota but with all the cash we got off with the Eclipse Cross, its 10/100,000 powertrain warranty, 5/60,000 bumper to bumper warranty, 5/unlimited miles roadside assistance, fully loaded feature set and excellent crash ratings, and Mitsubishi reliability it was just the best thing we could do and we are so happy we did. 7 of us at my work own Mitsubishis and one is a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer CVT with like 175,000 miles on it.

@@jeremywilber3451 My out the door pricing was like just under $27,000.00 with the gap insurance I added (I do on all my auto loans) and a few Mitsubishi accessories.

Mitsubishi makes some good cars. Just change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles at the dealer no exceptions.

Please consider reviewing a Gen 3 Outlander - I have a ‘19 with the 2.4 MIVEC after having two Outlander Sports w/5 sp. manuals and I’ve been quite impressed with all three (even with the CVT, which at 36 mpg returns better mpg than the manuals!).

A Fram Oil filter, for sure that didn't come from the factory, I saw a brand new Eclipse Cross and it got the Mitsubishi OEM Filter.. I only use non OEM Oil filters on Old cars. People with newer cars should use the OEM one. Hope that Mitsubishi keeps their engines/mechanicals with easy servicing because Nissan likes to make servicing and things more difficult.

They just announced a PHEV version of the Eclipse Cross coming out in 2021 for Japan and ASEAN markets. Not coming US/CAN though, which kinda sucks. I read that they would be using the Outlander PHEV system in it, so, I hope you get an Outlander PHEV to look at soon.

Dang remember when Mitsubishi was cool. Remember when they actually had halo cars.

By cool you mean fast sporty cars??... well mitsubushi remember when Americans use to buy their cars... family vehicle is where the markets at not sport and race car. Once again this car is name eclipse-cross not eclipse.... Toyota makes corolla and they make corolla-cross. So naming a cross over... eclipse-cross doesn't take away possibly to make an eclipse! But when a stigma is place on the brand and this mechanic reveiwer would make a comment that "it obvious that there are features abscent base on blank buttons and lack of radars... that are found on a Hondas and toyotas" shows a total bias against mitsubishi... as simple check would reveal they are available on higher specs

@@willis23jm1 I know Mitsubishi’s are decent cars and family cars make money now yes but without the evo, eclipse, and Pajero Mitsubishi doesn’t seem exciting to most people anymore. This is why Honda still has the type r and s660, ford still has the GT and gt500 and plenty of ST models, and GM still has the corvette and camaro . They make the brand seem exciting and appealing and since Mitsubishi doesn’t have one it makes them less attractive and no one cares much about them anymore.

I had this engine 4a91 in my old lancer 2008 non turbo 107hp was very reliable ,just the piston rings are known to burn oil I think but I never had any issues

My daily is a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution I purchased new and it has almost zero surface rust on the under body and chassis. This after umpteen Nebraska winters. So, yeah, they don't rust much.

Everything is relative... My 2008 Lancer started to rust after 9 years (in Europe). I am currently looking for a replacement. Sadly because otherwise I had no problems what so ever all this time.

@@RaduB. The Evo shares front doors, trunk lid and maybe the roof with the lancer. So while they both came from Mitsubishi they are different cars. Maybe that explains the difference - dunno.

I had several problems with the 2021 Eclipse Cross. I am sure they are all computer related. a) The heater is not even hot at 22-24C and it was -10C outside. b) I couldn't open my driver door with my remote when I was standing beside it (I pressed the correct button. Lol). Waited 10 minutes and tried again and it worked c) A fee times, when I remove my seat belt, the alarm did not sound like it usually remind me to put my belt on. d) I couldn't open my driver side window twice (there is no child proof, Lol). e) When I go up a small hill, the engine is revelling high and speed is low (on Econ. Mode). I took it back to complain to Mitsubishi dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. Frustrating.

Kind of tough to watch based on the car but like your vids

Wow! You are very knowledgeable on the Eclipse. Quick question; Is there such thing as "rear differential oil" on a 2021 Eclipse Cross? I went yo Mr. Lube and they told me I need a top up so they added 80w90. Is this a thing or scam? Thanks.

Since it has a small a/c compressor are there any downfalls to it being smaller ?

I honestly never use radiator drain plugs. It's way faster to disconnect the hose.

In my experience, hoses sometimes leak if removed (even when the clamp is replaced in the same position). And you can't tighten OE clamps. Drains are nice for this reason. Less messy too (but slower).

So how do you clean off inside of the radiator??? You need to flush out whatever dirt or residue via drain plug

For a Mitsubishi I love how simple it is I don't need radar bullshit or sensing bullshit theres a reason you take a driving test and if you fail you wouldn't be on the road in the first place.

We have a mitsubishi eclipse cross in UK, not a 4wd, front wheel drive automatic, we have performance brakes on it, bigger front discs with two piston brake caliper, electric handbrake and key less entry, push start system, radar system is mounted in the windscreen

please do an mirage mechanical review, wanna see how the cheapest mitsubishi would do, it seems so simple NGL, I love simple cars, imagine a car being cheap at price tag, cheap to run, is easy to repair, and is still reliable. sounds impossible today

I live in Canada where the temps varies between +30C & -30C. Mine is much more rusty after 1 winter/12 000km with salty roads, although I applied Oil Based Anti-Rust treatment. The muffler in totally orange rusted and most bolts behind the wheels are showing rust. Caliper, brake shield are orange rusted. This muffler is very poor material quality like what we add in the '80s. But, the car is relativeley cheap for its overall quality & performances.

I’m working as an electrician right now and make decent money (80-90k) a year but I really like the technical side of this more so that most the electricians I work with and am debating going into mech or electrical engineering. The main thing that scares me is the math tbh... I have “holes” in my math foundation I’d say. Is it as great as it seems to be and worth it? Would you do anything different?
