hearing mitski describe the song as sort of a "patriarchal voice" in your head is so interesting, kind of feels similar to the themes in Real Men from Lush. this is one of my fav songs off the album, and i love that she specified its not really about a "bad man" but moreso embodying the real toxic mindset. love these videos sm!

I hope she's not worried about these videos being too long for our sake, bc I'm sure the majority of us could literally watch a 4hr documentary about this album and still want more

easily one of my favs because of the dog and outdoor sounds. its so unique and special to me. i really feel the care and emotion that went into creating this song.

The use of dog sounds reminded me a lot of Fiona Apple on her last album "Fetch The Bolt Cutters" which has some dog barking sounds in a couple of tracks.

Oh my God when I first listened to this song I found myself crying and I couldn't really understand exactly why. Since it was my first listen I hadn't grasped much of the intention behind the lyrics and music yet, but it was so impactful lyrically and sonically. The explanation behind the song and the patriarchal voice in one's head tied everything together so ingeniously. The way the storytelling, the choral singers, bug sounds, barking, and that final false cry all comes together is so so beautiful. Thanks for sharing with us, Mitski ❤

I love the dog sounds and the night ambience, it brings me back to the line "I'll meet judgement by the hounds". The whole song had me floored as a man myself

i absolutely adore the choir in “im your man”, it really brings the whole song together, and i find it so moving!!! choral pieces always make my heart swell and you wrote it so beautifully, and knowing it’s significance only makes it more impactful. the dogs barking and the ambient outdoor sounds are so sick too, it was such a cool experience listening for the first time, especially with the toad scream at the end!!! definitely one of my favourites off the album, this was so interesting to watch! :’)

this song (one of my faves) transitions perfectly with Hard times by Ethel Cain and I'm UNWELL. The dogs in the end are such an amazing idea and this whole explenatory video is as well.

Throughout my years, I have felt I have had an inner matriarch within me instead, telling me she is my woman. Truly wonderful, Mitski. To me, it just sounds natural. A genuine integration of the process of the shadow. The big and small, the male and female aspects. The anima and animus. To me, this was too short! One does not have to excuse oneself when you explain your inner world. I could sit for hours talking about the creative process and transformation in art or creations. Also, one can never have too much tea.

I enjoy these behind the song videos so much, it’s so incredibly interesting to hear an artist explain their thoughts and ideas behind their art. Thank you so much for sharing with us Mitski, I wish the videos didn’t have to be so short so you could get to say everything that’s on your mind. I find the thing you said about having the voice of a man in your head really interesting, I think that most women are raised to more or less subconsciously adopt a patriotic hetero masculine perspective/voice because of the way the “male gaze” dominates society. As you said, it’s a really toxic part that affects how we look at the world and ourselves. One thing the man in my head often make me believe is that I need to be stuck in a role of needing approval from a man to be anything important, which obviously isn’t true. It’s just such an important thing to talk about, and I always appreciate when you speak up about topics like these with your art.

i always feel seen in mitski’s music. and how she describes this man in her head puts into words what i go through. thank you mitski. also the videos are NEVER too long. i wish they were longer.

"I'm Your Man" is definitely one of my favourite tracks on the album (although I love all of the songs, of course!) I really relate to the masculine voice in the back of your head too, I think it was a nice idea to give that voice a song:) also, I love that she gave a shout-out to the Folwer frog!!

I love these pre-concert-lecture style videos so much. I hope you will do one for "The Deal," which might be the best song on your stellar album; it may be the best thing you have ever written. I was awestruck the first time I heard it. Thank you for sharing your art!
