"I'll destroy you like I Am" hits especially hard when you remember how many time Old Testament "I Am" God furiously punishes the Israelites.

"You believe me like a god so i destroy you like a man" GOSH THIS ONE HIT HARD, my favorite so far, this album is amazing

This feels exactly like what my battle with BPD is like. Complete devotion to others and holding them so high that you crash and break if they ever reveal they shouldn’t be on a pedestal. Then the complete loss without them. But also that feeling of feeling bad for the people who can love you and watch you cycle again.

this song is so cinematic. it paints an image i cant find the words to describe, i just wish it lasted forever

“I’m sorry I’m the one you love.” My heart was just torn in two in front of my eyes and shoved into a paper shredder. My god, the way she can sing and write so beautifully. It’s like when you’re in a relationship with someone so good and wonderful, but you know you can’t keep up. At some point it feels like you’re taking advantage of their love. They’re so perfect to you, but you aren’t for them.

Damn this song really cut deep. It has such a dark brooding energy that I'm absolutely in love with. I love the sounds of the dogs barking halfway through to add a sinister atmosphere. Mitski really outdid herself with this one.

"No one will ever love me like you again So when you leave me I should die I deserve it, don’t I?" This line pierced my heart in ways I've never felt before.

this song very much feels like having to realize you’re the one rejecting the care and love others give you for whatever reason

The lyrics of this sort of sounds like a letter to her fans, specifically with the lines "you believe me like a god" and "I destroy you like I am". It makes me think of the pedestal that people often put artists, specifically Mitski, on, saying things like "I can't believe Mitski invented music", putting her, even jokingly, on a pedestal and as a symbol, like a god. But then, "I destroy you like I am", and "one day you'll figure me out", sort of makes me think of realizing that there is a person behind this art, and that possibly making it less special, less highly regarded, and how some people, once they get over the image of an artist, move on. Overall I think this song is a commentary of how fans put artists on unrealistic pedestals but once they realize that this idol is simply a person, with flaws and a life, the mystic they had of their music and of this person dissipates, and they leave.

This song feels like a silent car drive, where the passengers don’t speak a word and you can only hear the sounds of crickets and stray dogs from far.

im overwhelmed by how beautiful this is. the lyrics and the video and the editing and the design and the music and everything,, the choir like vocalising at the end and the dogs barking and the crickets and the sound that i cant tell if its a cicada or a scream*,, i adore it and am blown away. so atmospheric and visceral and beautiful. you are truly an incredible artist! thank you for sharing your work with us!

I think he believes what you said and yet I'm still here for him, he's terrible for what he's done to me yet I'm still here for him and I accepted everything about him and it makes me love him and care for him so much more because I love the person he is even with his flaws.

mitski has such beautiful lyricism. i saw this live for the first time, it was magical. i saw another person point out how this feels like a letter to her fans, and i 100% agree.

this song made me think from the lyricism is it’s about taking advantage of the kindness your lover is giving you. from them believing her like god and her betraying them like a man could mean she lets them down and meets their judgement at the end of the day. “when you leave me i should die” maybe she loves them just as much and knows they’ll leave her for her mistakes but she’ll just accept the consequences :{

But to me the whole song seems a bit sarcastic, like she is sad but at the same time she is not going to die because another person left her. That is exemplified in my mind when she says "people always gave me love / others where never to blame", as if he is saying "oh yes, of course, it is always my fault.."

In my interpretation, she does feel sad and guilty but is also subtly sarcastic about the idea that she deserves to die and that others are never to blame. Consider as well that on the record the song is followed by "I Love Me After You"..

One of those songs that’s sparkling new but sounds like something you heard in a past life. The choral section mixed with the barking of dogs is so atmospheric, it feels like any moment where you are terrified but there some small thing you’re desperately clinging onto to keep yourself calm I love this so much and hope to create music like it one day

This song is so beautiful. When I listened to it for the first time, it reminded me of my dogs, Shadow, Lola, and Niko. Shadow has passed many years ago and I miss him so much. the other two I'm not able to see anymore, but I hope I can soon. They've treated me so well, and never stopping showing love after so many years. This song made me think of a relationship with a dog, how they love you no matter what, and never leave your side. And how they're the "man's best friend". When she sings "you believe me like a God, and I destroy you like I am" it makes me think of how unconditional a dogs love is, and how many people don't appreciate that while they have it. when she says, "im sorry im the one you love" it makes me think of how an owner might take a dogs love for granted.
