Mitakon 65mm 1.4 Sample Images

50mm is one of the best portrait lenses, it is closest to what the human eye sees as far as focal length. This lens blows me away with its ability to isolate the subject combined with the detail it brings with it. Although it is very slow, the end result is astounding.

I had seen other videos regarding this lens on the GFX 50S, but this video does the best job of highlighting the value of this lens for portrait photography,. It went on sale today at B&H and I placed my order halfway through the video. I cannot wait to start shooting cars and protraits with this combination. Great job - I am now a subscriber to your channel.

I had to come and comment when you mentioned the build quality. I have the GFX 50R and the Mitakon 65mm. The first copy I got from B&H, the aperture blades went crazy and collided on themselves. Sent it back and got another copy, this one seems to be holding up fine after several shoots including a wedding. I love the look of the lens. I love your images and editing style as well. u are the REALLY first person who ´s pictures I like and are very good with the gfx body, and now I know why.... the native lenses seems to be a nightmare. i know a couple of people owning one or the new 100, now I know that it's the lenses and not the sensor. I didn't like the separation between sharp and unsharpened parts, the bokeh itself, the color cast, the rendering, fringing or flares, etc .... a lot of unpleasant things in the gfx lenses lineup for me. the Mitakon looks pretty good, u made the most of it, what I have seen so far from this lens and the price! thx for showing up, keep on the good work!💯

Heey Hunter, I own both the gf80mm f1.7 and gf110mm f2 and am pretty happy with it. still I yearn for an even faster lens for portraits. Do you recommend this one? I was also looking into the TTartisan 50mm f0.95 full frame lens with leica mount to put it on my gfx 100s. it has some strong vignette but i read that it can be fixed in post. i'm just looking for some cool glass for portraits that give some extra oompff to my pictures. i love both the 80 and 110 but i want something that can add some change in a series. something less clinical. Also the Helios 44-2 from the first batch is an option i'm looking into. i think it has even a stronger vignette and has to be cropped.

@@hunterhart1 Extended mansplaining/nerdy explanation alert: I have the native Fuji 35-70 kit lens. It is the widest lens I have for the GFX system. - For adapting, I have 45mm, 55mm, 80mm, and 150mm from Mamiya 645; - Contax C/Y 45mm/2.8, 50mm/1.7(The 45mm works better than the 50mm. And The corner isn't the best when using the full 44x33 sensor, but cropping to 5:4 & 6:7 is pretty usable. The X-Pan mode 65x24 is pretty usable too!) - some other Leica M-mount lenses with some cropping (the corner is worse than the Contax C/Y lenses, cropped to 5:4 & 6:7 are pretty usable. Also, the lens+camera combo looks pretty good together.) - Canon EF Mount I have the Zeiss Sonnar 85mm/1.4. It covers the whole 44x33 sensor, and the image quality is amazing. However, when you half-press the shutter, the aperture blade will move (if you are not using f1.4), creating some annoying noise while the camera lets you aperture preview the whole shot. Not sure if this is fixable with a different adapter or other EF lenses. - I heard that the EF tilt-shift lenses work perfectly on the GFX since it has a bigger image circle by nature, so I might try them later. Might wanna try out 17mm, 24mm, and 45mm

@@davidluo_photo thanks for the details. The reason I ask: I have a ton of FD lenses and it seems when you get any wider than a 50mm on 35mm film lenses, the corners fall apart and vignette really badly. In a perfect world I’d love a lens that gives me a 28mm focal length sense that falls into my workflow and “look” if you stumble upon anything that hits that mark, please let me know. I don’t want to have to buy a GFX lens, I’d be totally fine with a manual focus film lens. I wish mitakon would make a wider lens like a 35mm (28 ish equivalent) for the GFX system like they did with this 65mm.

Hello. This video is very interesting. I'd like to seek your advance, actually I use gfx 100S and GF45F2.8, GF110F2. Now in europe Fujifilm is on campaign cashback, so I'm interested in 80F1.7, but I'm also interested in Mitakon 65, it is very good separation from object and background. I'm afraid that the sharpness in open wide Fstop of Mitakon 65. 80F1.7 is very similler to 110F2 and I know good quality of sharpness in wide Fstop F1.7, but I think Mitakon has unique image of 3D. Do you like and use very much Mitakon 65? Is it very good lens of image quality of sharpness?

@@shigerusaitosculptor I would prefer the 65 over the others due to the look but if you need something clinically sharp this one’s hard to nail focus exactly every time

Ok! It will be very hard for shooting on movement, but I am sculptor, so I want to photograph my sculpture works, these are not in movement! I'm so interested in expression for the feel of material, and three dimentional existance. I have to try with Mitakon, Thank you so much!

Should I use a light meter with this lens? I assume I won’t have any information on my GFX camera. Or who can tell me how to proceed?

@@hunterhart1 Thank you, yes, I hadn't noticed that you could adjust to aperture priority, and I thought it was fully manual like a Mamiya RZ67! It was my first day with it! Great, but not easy to get sharp photos otherwise awesome!, I have the 45mm, 55mm, and 110mm from Fuji.

I’ve seen rumors. They really need to release some new portrait glass, wish they’d do a 35mm 1.7 for environmental portraits. That 28mm focal length would be amazing on the system.

Not 35mm, but close; check the Sigma Art 40mm. Covers the sensor rather well, just a tiny hard vignetting with any filter on it, but it's stupidly sharp and renders gorgeously, unlike any other lens I've seen. Heavy beast though.

I’ve heard that. I wonder how that equivalent falls. I feel like the 45mm is actually around a 38mm. So maybe the 40 would be around a 33? That would be cool 😎

@@hunterhart1 the crop factor is 0.79x, so 31.6mm to be exact. With the metabones Canon adapter, the AF works great. I mainly shoot manually, though, and the lens makes it very pleasant; it's accurate, and the rendering is so ridiculously sharp and perfect in every way that one can easily zoom all in inside the viewfinder and really fine-tune the focus.

It’s frustrating seeing other companies coming out with lenses for the Gfx and only charge 10-20% extra, while Fuji is charging 200-300% more for f2.8 and f4 lenses.
