I used to end up with flatter work when I try so hard to use traditional guidelines, now I seem to get better results by trusting my intuition for 3D form and blocking in the different body parts/muscles earlier in and making slight adjustments. The neck's position tends to need a lot of adjustment though. I always found the profile view is easiest to understand and nice to draw, everything else is more confusing lol

I usually start my drawing with a simplistic skeleton. A circle and triangle on the bottom as the head, a trapeze for a torso and pelvis, circles for joints, triangles for feet, circles for hands, and lines to connect everything, so they make for legs, arms, neck and belly. I try to keep my skeleton relatively correct anatomically - as far as my artstyle goes. This, as a base, really makes it much easier to get the pose and anatomy, easier to envision everything. It won't work for everybody, and it too needs some practice, but I found it helps me a lot.

This video is underrated as hell very helpful
Contrapasto or adding counter angles really helps make poses more dynamic. Im not good at explaining it, but its a good term to look up. That and Ecroche or the studies of human anatomy without skin, learning how muscles interact and sit really help as well!
“There is no easy way to fix this …But”… 😂😂 slick flatchest joke 😂😂
I have this problem irl
I don't see no mistake dear sir.
I always love seeing the before and after
There are 2 large reasons why I like this

I really appreciate this video, i was having some trouble drawing the torso, thanks man
These tips are GREAT because in the beginning, I cant point what's wrong with the "beginning" picture. But by the end, when it transitions from the end picture to the beginning, the end product just looks so much better
This is it. this is my favorite video of this entire platform
bruh that was already looks so correct, I didn't expect it can be improved
I quit drawing a few years ago but I still enjoy watching these btw I got into music production and never had to deal with people destroying my drawings again, so I guess that's good
The extra guidelines for the depth also makes it easier for eyes and brain to follow along and know what to do afterwards with shading and colouring
I think people need to remember that the ribs are actually tipped and not just straight up
Basically you just need to make more "wonky" lines instead of straight ones
such small details, such a big difference in outcome😮
nice landmarks... i'll show myself out
'Every Landmark is sitting on the different plane' 💀💀
I’m focusing on this really well, you make very good informative videos. don’t ask what I’m focusing on it doesn’t matter
And people say I'm too addicted to details when I'm literally just drawing in 3d 😂
the best part about being a good artist is realising you can draw whatever you want to
Why tf is this good 💀😭🤍🤍
I can't begin to tell you how helpful your videos are. Thank you so much!
Well i lost my motivation to draw again
It kinda looks like you made the torso more defined than the previous drawing, noted :D
David Ross, legendary comic book artist, has a great book where he teaches a mannequin approach. Very good.
I love your films ❤ Keep going! ❤❤❤
Omg you have no idea how much of a helper you areee
The after and before created by the video loop shows the importance of this very clearly
I never run into this issue, it's about preserving body's proportions.
Ay thanks for this tip, I was struggling to do a females tourso, thank you🙏
Count our lines really help. Thanks!
Not even an artist just a man of culture
This is so helpful. Thank you! *sigh* Time to go back for more perspective practice.
Drawing the torso properly is one thing. Shading/coloring is whole new level...like i properly draw the torso but will either look so flat or weidly bumpy when i shade the skin.

Shading is a different skill entirely. If you're able to draw the torso 3-dimensionally, most likely you need to study how to shade 3-dimensional forms first, before you're able to apply that to the torso
the unfinished drawing ladies look fine af
Omg this helps so much, Im definitely at an intermediate level and its honestly kind of hard to find tutorials for stuff like this. This helps a LOT thank you!

Happy to help!
Your videos have literally transformed everything I've been doing. I was thinking I was going to have to go to art school (or medical school lol) to figure out what was going wrong with my anatomy (and everything you've shared so far is clearly less than half of the wealth of your knowledge and I can't wait to learn more)
As someone who draws in a cartoony way, I skip the anatomy part 😅
Thank you, with this video i learned i need to stop drawing anime with no particular angle, and draw a style I can't draw!
part of my drawing/rendering process is just thickening everything as I go over my sketch.
wtf, i have never seen anyone draw so fast and it looking so good. yes its just a sketch but still.. wow
You videos help me so much 😭
Incredibly helpful! Ill be using this from now on :]
I think gushing over magical girls thought me how to do draw torso perfectly when they introduced Kiwi but thank you this also helped so much
I wish humans were like fluffy like monkies so we artists wouldn't have to deal drawing the precision of skin
Im not an artist but I still enjoy your videos
"Why stop heeeere..." Ops, wrong chanel
I prefer to think of the chest as a box tilted back in 3d space, so in the side view the back is mostly aligned to the back of the box, and the chest and collarbones are mostly aligned to the front of a box. If there are breasts, they just out past the edge of the box.
Amazing!! Thanks!!

You're welcome!
It was soo hard for me not to say this when he said "flat".
This is why I should pay attention in anatomy class
Bro it literally looks like the only thing that changed from your "wrong" example to the "correct" example is shifting the neck over and adding a bit of body fat. The height, width, and depth looked exactly the same, just more detail in the latter
This is actually very helpful. Thanks!

Glad it helped!
Somehow the "flawed" drawing always looks fine to me _until_ I see the fixed end result. It's crazy how big the difference is 😳 I love this level of detail combined with clear explanation 👍 Tho I'd already be happy if I could comfortably sketch like the first one 😅
"Too flat" Oda: "oh i have no problem with that"
Subbed. Good tip, I try to avoid these mistakes, but they definitely creep up to me often.

As someone who draws in a wrong way with decent results, I just hope and pray
That curve in the back leading to the rib line can make all the difference between shape that passes for a humanoid body and a fridge body.
i thought shadows were the essence of 3D but now i realize there’s more to it
That makes a lot more sense
And then you have twisting upper torso with a perspective angle, which make things even more complicated.
Thank you I needed this
I'm really glad I have this knowledge already because my body is definitely not flat. Not just that, but it's just not realistic for torsos to be so flat...
me nodding along knowing i will be legging all of my anatomy 2 minutes after
Lemme tell you… your drawings are never too flat
As soon as i get my perfect build im gonna use all of these tips
I usually start my drawing with a simplistic skeleton. A circle and triangle on the bottom as the head, a trapeze for a torso and pelvis, circles for joints, triangles for feet, circles for hands, and lines to connect everything, so they make for legs, arms, neck and belly. I try to keep my skeleton relatively correct anatomically - as far as my artstyle goes. This, as a base, really makes it much easier to get the pose and anatomy, easier to envision everything. It won't work for everybody, and it too needs some practice, but I found it helps me a lot.
This is why you should learn to draw boxes in all possible angle, just do it guys, its essential to become good at art, it will make your life 100x better
Oh wow! Thank You so much mate! 🥶
This is legit respect
It's just a suggestion but if it's possible can u plz show like befor and after frames that would be really helpful if you could 🙂
I might take anatomy in high school because of this
Let‘s be real, no one learned a single thing from this but just stared at the drawing.
Why do I need this? This just popped up on my feed and I don't draw but will try it when I draw lol
I’ve subbed to so many different art channels but this one feels like the advice is actually helping 🙏 thank you for your advice!
