I still can't forget the time someone basically said I was lying about being deaf because I could speak well. It's like, "Why would I lie about being able to hear?" And it's not the only time that's happened. Oh, and the last time I went to the theater, they had glasses I could use that just showed the subtitles on them. They weren't the clearest glasses, but at least I had subtitles for the movie. Always ask at the ticket desk.

I think people sometimes have a stereotype in their head and don't understand that their stereotype might not apply to absolutely everyone. I think a lot of people are just quite cynical as well and can be very quick to assume the worst of people. I think as a young woman as well, people can assume I'm being dramatic and exaggerating my level of hearing loss. I've heard about subtitle glasses before, but I'm not sure they have them where I live. I've never seen anyone with them or had them offered to me, I guess it's worth investigating though.

This comment is mostly for hearing people,my hearing loss first off was down to working with noisy machinery without ear protection! They were never issued,so if you work with noisy machinery insist on ear protection! Also if their is history of deafness in your family get your hearing checked! Most opticians do free hearing tests,& if your prescribed hearing aids please wear them! I know the stigma of wearing them is still bad, especially if your under 30,I regret the years my hearing aids ended up in a drawer because a few people made fun of me at work or did not know what to say in shops! Nelle was one of the unlucky ones her hearing was gone in a few days/weeks! But she had 20 yrs of enjoying all the sounds around her & enjoying music! But thanks to modern technology she can hear certain things again,I don't know after 18mths what the world sounds like,if you watch a lot of CI videos on you tube & from cochlear themselves a few people say they can hear normally again, others can hear a variety of sounds! Being deaf is very hard & you feel isolated at times! When a friend asks if you enjoyed something on the TV & you say I could not hear what was being said as the program had no subtitles! People can think your rude if you don't reply but you don't hear them! Once a shopkeeper sees hearing aids etc they don't know how to speak to you! If your with someone they ask them first what you would like! I jazz my hearing aids up now as I want people to see I am deaf! Nelle asked for any other things, look how hard it was during covid & the masks it was impossible for deaf people, some now wear badges saying they are deaf & speak slowly, others have lanyards with a card saying they are deaf! As I said until you lose your hearing you don't know what being deaf is like! So if your hearing & reading this please try & make our lives easier! We wear hearing aids/CI for a reason like you wear glasses! 💖💖

THIS - sooo true! I’m profoundly deaf in my left ear, I have otosclerosis and surgery failed for me so now profoundly deaf in that ear 👂 , and it’s spreading to my right ear. I currently use Phonak bi-CROS hearing aids and everyone thinks they’re a cure and they’re not. You have to retrain your brain 🧠 to hear. And wearing them doesn’t change the fact you’re deaf. And hearing loss can be gradual, so speech can be developed before! Love your videos, you’re amazing xxx 🤍✨🤟

Why is it in this day & age hearing people think hearing aids are a cure! They just amplify what hearing you have left! And why would we fake being deaf & have these things on & in our ears! But if you wear glasses very little is said apart from maybe how good they look on you! I find now the best way to fight back is to jazz up my hearing aids with coloured earmoulds & tubing etc! Am glad to see a new poster! 💗💗

@@songsignwithsarahxoxox those are mine in my profile,I was told never to get clear earmoulds as the wax turns them brown & can look awful! I have just ordered some new coloured twists to show off my aids! If you had said I would jazz up my hearing aids a few years ago I would have laughed at you & they probably would have ended up in a drawer,I hated being deaf but now it's a part of who I am,does it really matter what you call yourself,HOH,hearing impaired etc! As far as I am concerned I am deaf but as I can speak I suppose I am small d deaf! As I think you have to be born deaf to be big D Deaf! Each to their own what they call themselves! If people say to me am I deaf I just say yes! We wear hearing aids/cochlear implants for a reason,to try & hear! End of story💖

I'm glad you like my videos. I think people just assume that hearing aids or implants fix everything and that if you still struggle then that means you're not sufficiently grateful for them or you're just being overly dramatic about it or something. I just had a quick look at your channel, it looks great. I was thinking about maybe getting into doing sign songs myself, but I'm not sure if I'd be any good at it. Nelle :)

@@nellefindlay Awww thank you sooo, I’ve been doing signed song for a few years, I’ve always loved music (I’m an expert in re-writing songs though). Your channel is amazing, I also have autism too but was only diagnosed a few years ago (wasn’t a surprise) dxx

I've got upgrade cochlear implant I've been deaf since my early twenties hearing aid helped at first then got worse People were very rude to me Won't go into details Changed when I had cochlear implant years ago now have got an upgraded one. Deaf people can be a figure of fun. And when people tut that's awful as I say things got better after my implants. I do have problems with accents though I'm very pleased that comedians don't make deaf jokes anymore

I enjoy watching you use BSL. Many of the signs are similar to ASL. I agree with you about speech and late deafened adults. My voice is good. But I confuse people. They are surprised that I am deaf.

Hi Nelle💗first off you have come a long way in 2yrs since u lost your hearing! I notice in this video you signed more! Until a person loses hearing themselves they will never know what it's like to be deaf! It's a whole new world if your loss is severe! You got hearing aids in the hope they will help & in a lot of people they do! But it helped you getting an implant but what non deaf people don't understand it does not give you back normal hearing! When hearing aids/ CI's are out you are now in a silent world, when your newly deaf it feels like the end of the world! It feels like you don't belong to the deaf or hearing world! I should know because I have felt like that! I don't know how much a 2nd implant will help you but I believe it will hence keep donating to the fund to get you implanted! It's about time non deaf people got educated on what it's like to be deaf! They should not have to wait until they lose their hearing! I was lucky my hearing gradually went but suddenly the last bit of hearing went & I was in the same boat as you apart relying on the most powerful BTE hearing aids! Part of me wishes I had a CI then non deaf people would see how severe my loss is,but as you say non deaf people see hearing aids & think it's cured your loss! I tell people that I am deaf for life & won't hear normally again! My speech I am told is very bad as I cannot hear myself! The deaf accent! You have done well nelle to keep your normal speech! But you did say in a recent video that if your tired & your implant is out your speech does change! Every point you made was spot on! So I hope non deaf people will watch your video & see what deaf people face each day! When you suddenly lost your hearing in April 2021 it changed your life forever, you gave up your dentist work, but all credit to you for deciding to go to uni & learn BSL etc! Just look at your first video & your latest! What a difference, you are so much more confident! Deafness is not holding you back! I have to accept I am permanently profoundly deaf & work around it,your video's help! So let's get the 2nd implant you need 💖💖💖
