The Mirage 4000 prototype like the Mirage 2000 are beautiful and aerodynamic. A pity that the 4000 was not built

You're true ! French bureaucracy and international pressures made it abort...imagine Irak owned this aircraft, the moovie " top gun " might have turned into " top run "...with leutnant Pete Mitchell and Wizzo " Goose" F-14 shot down over Irak by Super Mirage and casting their escape from Iraqui's jails...😄

The French Mirage F1 EQ was used in the Iran Iraq war to counter the superiority of the F 4 Phantom and F14A , a total of 38 were lost in combat.

23 total were lost in the war, 9 of those were lost in aerial combat. 6 were confirmed USAF F-15 kills, and 2 were Saudi F-15 kills on Iraqi Mirages with bombs and no AAMS. Please check your sources/facts

@@ZZPxFTW The source for the Iran Iraq war are from Osprey combat aircraft # 49 for the F 14 claims and # 37 for the Phantom F 4 claims.

Considering the US only sold the Tomcat to Iran I doubt a mirage-tomcat shoot down would have affected anything. And seeing as how it was never fielded this is a fairy tale.

Still I beleive that If Mirage 4000 apperaed then It will give challenge F-15 s Air Supiriority

Ce que vous dites n'est pas vrai. Ce prototype, financé par Dassault sur fond propre, l'a été dans la perspective d'abord d'être vendu à la France. Or, la France n'en voulu pas pour des raison économiques compréhensibles.

La France n'a jamais voulu du mirage 4000, qui est juste resté à l'état de demo'strateur. il était dès le départ considéré comme trop ambitieux pour les finances publiques, donc très rapidement Dassault a prospecte l'Arabie Saoudite avec l'accord du gouvernement français. Le mirage 4000 n'a jamais éte autre chose qu'un prototype de travail qui plus tard a servi de base pour le Rafale je ne penses pas qu'on ait tout à fait le méme age ... A l'époque l'armée française n'avait nullement pour objectif de surclasser les Etats Unis dans une course qui aurait été bien trop risqué pour nos finances publiques Le mirage 4000 a été une pure proposition de Dassault non sollicité par la DGA. Afin de conserver le savoir faire le bureau d'étude de Dassault produit régulièrement des prototypes en tout genre, les 3 quarts de ces prototypes n'aboutissent sur rien, le Mirage 4000 fait partie de ces projets, mais in fine l'objectif est de faire tourner les bureaux d'étude pour maintenir et développer le savoir faire. La France n'a pas les moyens de développer seule un avion lourd, le premier de ce type sera le SCAF fait en cooperation. Le Rafale est un avion de masse médiane, c'est sans doute le dernier chasseur que la France développera seule. Vu la surface gigantesque de sa ZEE la France a impérativement besoin d'un avion lourd a très long rayon d'action, les avions légers comme les Mirage 2000 ne sont pas et n'ont jamais été suffisant, le Rafale est un énorme progrès, mais la France doit encore gagner en allonge pour accéder plus facilement a son territoire ultra marin, montrer a ses adversaires qu'elle est capable de pénétrer en profondeur les lignes ennemis, car pour un pays comme la France et sa surface maritime, une posture purement défensive n'est plus suffisante. on a les compétences techniques mais on n'a pas l'allonge finznciére necessaire seule la coopération nous permettra d'accéder au club des chasseurs lourds.

The F15 may had more powerfull engine, but was more obese. I m pretty sure the M4k would win in a dogfight but France dosn't have the US économie.

The Mirage 2000 was successful but not highly successful. The F 16 was that. The total sales of the the F 16 is about 7 times the Mirage, and still being made. The F 16 has proven to be a Mig killer and a Mirage sales killer. The Mirage 4000 was a partial prototype. It lacked radars and sensors to be in the big boys club.

Well, the mirage has proven to be a f16 killer...😉 The 4000 had a radar mounted, an extended version of the Thales RDM and had sensors... It was a test bed of Rafale after 1986.

The non moving canards combined with the canted highly swept delta wing would have compromised agility especially at combat weight. Engines where not as advanced or powerful as F100 used in F15/F16. Advanced radar & sensors to rival the F15 had not been developed. Mirage 4000 was a incomplete program that failed to rival advanced programs.

You said what I was going to say. The French really do not believe it either. The F 15 started an air show by showing of its amazing thrust to weight ratio by going vertical. The less powerful Mirage 4000 did not as it would look bad compared to a F 15.

​@@steveharvey6421People underestimate the F15 because of the age of the platform. Only with the Rafale did a reasonable French rival to late model F15 become available though it is completely unproven one. I personally wouldn't want to be flying the French fighter if the EX with the lastest missiles is the F15. Would either be a very difficult sortie or a rather short one.

​@@alt5494 I hope you do understand that a Rafale would blow any F15 variant out of the sky without the F15 ever having a chance to understand what hit him right ? Rafale a several times lower RCS compared to the F15, Rafale would jam the F15 radar with SPECTRA before firing a METEOR that the F15 could not escape from.

@@monfortnicolas5448 Highly unlikely if the F15 is the EX variant with greatly reduced RCS improved radar/ECM, & 12 to 18 AIM-260 JATM missiles. Not that the USA would need to send the Air Force. The entire French Air Force would lose to a single carrier group fielding the F35C.
