Étendard IV & Super Étendard | The French nightmare of the ships
Ғылым және технология
We are investigating the Dassault Étendard IV and the Dassault Super Étendard, the simple but deadly French carrier-borne strike fighter aircraft family. #navalaviation #Dassault #aviation
Due to some copyright issues, we had to remake our Étendard IV & Super Étendard video.
How did the Étendard IV, the unsuccessful aircraft in the NBMR 1 Programme, become the backbone of the strike force of the French Navy?
Why did France prefer the Super Étendard to replace Étendard IV?
Were the Argentine Super Étendards unstoppable heroes in the 1982 Falklands War?
Could air defence missiles stop the Étendard IVPs?

Welcome to our new content. As the Weapon Detective, we are investigating modern weapon systems of the Second Cold War. The Weapon Legends is about the older weapon systems. We tell their epic stories, which made them a legend. The Weapon Legends investigates these stories, reads between the lines, analyzes, and tells the untold. You can find technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let the wisdom of history show us what the future will be. Let’s investigate the veteran weapons of the past together.

The Argentine Super Etendards are in storage due to lack of spare parts and budget. Their fuselages have a high potential for use since they were not flown intensively. Recently Argentina purchased the last 5 SEM that flew in the French Navy and all the remaining spare parts to put the SUE and SEM family back into service. Five aircraft are already ready for flight, awaiting a solution to the ejector seat issue.
Dassault Makes the most beautiful planes in the world. "A beautiful plane is a plane that flies well". - Marcel Dassault.
Etendard IVM is pretty underrated being superseded by the Super Etendard few years after and the F-8 Crusader as well in French Aeronavale service
Underrated ground attack plane

Not even ugly.
The Clemenceau and Foch had such an interesting plane complement, all outdated kinda rag tag in order to fit on the tiny carriers, I think It's pretty cool
not agree with your assumption avbout their look. SEM are beautiful birds , lots of ellegance and grace
I have a 1/48 scale model ( Kitty Hawk) of the Super Entedar that I haven't built yet. But I'm looking forward to it.
Thank you for this video about these combat airplanes who were sharing my name.
Remains a sleek and beautiful aircraft, No contest. Sideways on it is difficult to distinguish from the Mirage 3.
Found it perfect for a naval aircraft. The side view always reminded me of a seagull, especially the nose.
My father was the one who list his life in the tanker war in Iraq back in 1984. His code name was KHK
The looks of the Étendards are getting some unfair hits ;-)
Another wonderful video about Etendard IV & Super Etendard single seethe Supersonic aircraft's for French naval forces. Video clearly explained all characteristics and the history background design of that aircraft... 4 Super Etendard French aircraft's that fitted with Exoset missiles utilized by Iraq 🇮🇶 airforces for a limited time and special missions against Iranian kharaj Island in Persian Gulf...thank you respectful ( weapon detective) channel for sharing this magnificent video
Great video and Info as usual !
Cheap and cheerful, they got the job done.
The Swedish A32A started carrying two sea skimming RB04C anti ship missiles in 1961. The British naval air defense missiles where obsolete before they entered service until the advent of the Sea Wolf and modernized Sea Dart.
Hope you talk about it's usage in the Argentinian AF on the Malvinas/Falklands War. Keep it up.

The little joke about Jean-Paul Belmondo's nose made me smile. But it is true that this well-equipped plane was particularly ugly, which is quite rare among Dassault productions. It’s a re-upload right? In any case thank you, learning and smiling is nice.
Pretty airplanes.
Classy french aircraft. Supercool like J P Belmondo.
Thank u ❤🎉
Of course the nightmare for the Task Force Britisch Argentine Naval Pilots !!!!
Air Forces worldwide bought the A-4 Skyhawk. The French Air Force bought Mirage aircraft. Good aircraft still
To me at least it looks gorgeous. It got that Je ne sais quoi.
Make a video on su22
Ok, this covers Alain Delon and Jean Paul Belmondo. But what are the Gérard Depardieu and the Jean Reno of Aircraft?

I do agree with you; the british have Rowan Atkinson 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I had a 1/48th scale model of the plane
Only a correction, the islands are called "Malvinas"...
Your point about the lack of RN airborne early warning is very apt. Crowsnest is better than nothing but… Still ridiculous. Why , in the name of reason, would you pay billions for aircraft carrier strike groups without a few million more to protect them properly? Yes - I get it. The USN will do the job mostly and the Ski Ramp makes it awkward. But…
Does the plane’s name just mean “standard”? Or, is the name idiomatic and mean something different from the straight translation?

A very unimpressive aircraft when compared to what other navies were flying at the time. It got lucky in the Falklands because the British had no Airborne Early Warming aircraft with the Task Force. So had no long range warning, but the attacks were successfully counter except fo Sheffield which had radar issues and Atlantic Conveyor which was a civilian ship with no countermeasures. Glamorgan was damaged by a ground launched Excocet.

With at the max. 24 Sea Harriers it’s impossible to fly a fleet CAP and do effective combat support, needed maintenance, etc. The British where also very lucky Uncle Sam priority send them shiny new all aspect AIM 9L Sidewinders. If France would not have stopped deliveries of air launch able Exocets to Argentina the British fleet would have been decimated. BTW the Atlantic Conveyor was an important asset so would have been at the core of the protected force of the fleet formation. It being hit is a failure of the air defense frigates. Sure Atlantic Conveyor had no CIWS but those weapon systems became popular for a very easy to guess reason after the Falklands War. Maybe the British where lucky the Atlantic Conveyor took the missile. I’m sure the Argentinians thought the large radar blip was one of the carriers.
I was 15 at the time of the Falflands, but i remember vividly the embarassement in wich the french gov was, after the deadly use of the Exocet, against our long time ally...
