Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 58mm f1.4 - A Lens You Should Add To Your Collection

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Among the many vintage lenses available, the Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm F1.4 is a classic. It's wonderful image rendering and soft out of focus backgrounds are part of the reason it has it's own following. A very affordable vintage lens, it is one to check out to see if it has a place in your lens collection.

Nice video; thanks for it! My 58mm f/1.4 Rokkor can do very cool things when I mount it on one of my macro helicoid adapters... If you haven't tried one of those yet, they're definitely a choice tool.

Hi Don, I bought a Minolta ST101 last year that came with a 55mm 1.7f lens . The camera has a slight fault but the lens is perfect. I use the lens on my OMD EM1 mki and it makes a great combination. I do have the additional battery hand grip with makes the handling a lot better when using the vintage/ legacy lenses.

Effectively become a 116mm lens. On micro four thirds. A 116mm 1.4 lens. Go out and see how much a new lens would cost you like that on full frame. Or not. I have this on apsc which according to my pre breakfast brain gives me about an 87 mm 1.4. Which starts to approach what Viltrox is doing. It's all a win win. I will say The Minolta 1.7 lenses have to be the best deals out there. The 1.4's in their 50,55, and 58mm's are all going up by the month, but the 1.7, which I also have, remains around 35 bucks, and gives back many multiples of that in quality. It's not just sharpness, It's the rendering. Get one. Get two. I have fast Fuji primes but my favorite lenses are the ones that graduated in 6th grade and got free scholarships to Harvard, saving me mucho bucks.

Hi Don, I have the Minolta 28mm, F2.8 with adaptor for my Olympus kit. I like the un-digital, filmic look, of course manual focus so still shot,s. Manual assist for focusing is excellent in my OMD Mk2. Minolta are renown for quality glass, manufactured in house.

Interesting lens. I like adapting vintage lenses to my mirrorless as well. I lean more towards Konica but Minolta has some great lenses as well. Didn't Minolta and Konica merge at some point?

Hi, I've just bought me a different Minolta fifty lens, a 90s Minolta AF 50mm F1.4 to use on my A7c for soft portraits and street captures. How much of that Minolta character is left in those later screwdriven lenses, what do you think? Mine vignettes pretty heavily at 1.8 btw, black corners are visible in post. Thanks!

I haven't tried the lens you are working with, but I would bet some of that character is still there when shooting wide open. It shouldn't vignette so much that corners are black, though. That seems odd. You might need to have the lens looked at.

@@dongummphotography I think the vignetting got exaggerated after some editing. It’s not that bad. Pretty sure the photos will be usable. However I’m feeling tempted to order the LA-EA4r unofficial “monster adapter” circuit with full eye AF and no light loss on the mirror. That would have been a great mix of old and new!
