Which 58mm 1.4 lens is better. Nikon 5.8cm or Minolta 58mm 1.4.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I compare 2 over 50 year old manual focus 58mm 1.4 lenses. Watch to find out which is sharper.
Minolta 58mm 1.4 or Nikkor 5.8cm 1.4.

Got Minolta like this with hills and walleys ring. Got 20 mote lenses but this Minolta is one of the best i have or mabe best one. No aberation, ultra sharp, no fringing. Amazing lense.

Only thing this needed was more experimentation with out of focus background rendering. This time of year, (November) with our Indian summer in San Francisco, there's all kinds of magic to be had around 4-6 p.m. Even indoors. My project is simple. Keep buying this series..whether it's the 50, 55, or 58, and even getting the 1.7 version, and enough of a pile of them to feel fine about opening up the worst of them to try to fix. I've noticed that just leaving them on the shelf with minimum use, (REALLY MINIMUM) they can go bad on you.

Lovely open reviews. I am returning to film. Digital had no appeal to me. Got a nice Nikon F from watching your video. I used to have an SRT which I really liked too. I am discovering the qualities and charm of a lens on film again which I have missed for years. Thanks for some refreshing insights.

Thank you for this comparison, Jules. Some people would appreciate more the Nikkor because of it's lack of sharpness when wide open (dreamy look) compared to the Rokkor, but IMO the Rokkor would perform better at most situations. Your video can help these photographers to choose which one fits his/her demands.

Thank you. I have Nikon cameras and Nikkor lenses, and love them. I do have a mirrorless crop-sensor Fujifilm camera that I use my old non-AI lenses on, AND a few Rokkor lenses with the appropriate adapters. I agree, in these lenses you compared, the Minolta's colour rendition, contrast and bokeh is also to my liking

Most Nikon lenses still have 52mm filter size where possible, which is very handy. Also, even my old Nikkors will work on my Nikon FE and my Nikon D300s cameras thanks to the backwards and forwards compatibility of the Nikon F mount

Pro tip when purchasing the Rokkor: there are several versions of this lens and they are not all the same optically. Also, you’re comparing the Rokkor which is 7 years newer than the Nikon: advances in optical design and coatings make this comparison a bit unfair. Additionally, this nikkor was Nikon’s very first SLR lens they ever made and as such it has collector’s value hence the significant price difference between these two lenses.

This two lenses are wonderful but I still go with the fabulous HELIOS 44 2 which, at lest my copy, is sharper at f2 than this guys.
