Welcome to our video on "Mini Twists: Pros and Cons Unveiled "! In this comprehensive guide, we explore the pros and cons of mini twists, a popular hairstyle choice for many natural hair enthusiasts. Whether you're considering trying out mini twists or simply curious about them, we've got you covered. ✨ Upsides of Mini Twists ✨ Mini twists offer a plethora of advantages that make them a favorite among curly-haired individuals. Firstly, these delicate twists are incredibly versatile, allowing for various styling options. You can rock them as a protective style, wear them up in an elegant updo, or let them hang loose for a carefree look. Additionally, mini twists require minimal manipulation, which helps in reducing hair breakage and retaining length. They are also known for their low maintenance, making them a convenient choice for those with busy schedules. Furthermore, mini twists promote hair growth by providing a protective barrier that safeguards your strands from external damage. 🌟 Downsides of Mini Twists 🌟 Though mini twists come with numerous benefits, it's essential to be aware of their downsides as well. Firstly, installing mini twists can be time-consuming, especially for longer hair or if you're new to the technique. Additionally, some individuals may find that mini twists add weight to their hair, causing tension on the scalp and potential discomfort. Another drawback can be the risk of tangling and matting if the twists are not well-maintained or left in for an extended period. Finally, while mini twists are a cost-effective option in the long run, the initial setup cost may vary depending on your location and the stylist's fees. 🎉 Conclusion 🎉 In conclusion, mini twists present a range of benefits that make them an appealing choice for many naturalistas. From their versatility to their low-maintenance nature, these twists have become an integral part of numerous hair care routines. However, it's crucial to consider the potential downsides, such as the initial time commitment and the risk of tangling. By weighing both the upsides and downsides, you can make an informed decision about whether mini twists are the right hairstyle for you. Girl that’s part of it tho! Mini twists will THICKEN ur hair, also will allow u to see where ur hair is damaged or thinning so u can give that section extra love. Mine looked so bald headed in 2017, they are now super thick, past my shoulders and look lovely. Also, how u install them matters. The way i do mine has changed as my hair changes, and the way i do mine isn’t the way i do my homegirls.

And a great hack: I moisturize them in the evening with my favorite leave in or oil and sleep with a plastic cap. And if you do it right it won't smell funky. ;-D This was live changing and my hair is starting to grow more! You should try it!!

I've noticed doing twists on blown out hair makes them look thicker. Also, if you untwist, finger comb and reinstall each twist after a week ( if you installed on damp hair), after they have dried completely, it helps them look juicier😊. Keep in mind I only install medium or large twists. I don't have the patience for smaller ones lol.

I too swear by mini twists - for retaining length, versatility, etc. And even the “con” regarding the time it takes to install is truly relative (it may not take very long at all!) depending upon how thick your hair is. My hair is bra-strap length, but very low density and fine strands. I must do at least 24 twists (usually ends up being c. 28) to avoid that scalpy look you refer too; but even though that number is, like, a third of the amount of twists you have, my hair nonetheless looks quite similar and I can achieve many of the same styles. So I hope girls with thin/fine hair will still give it a go, and know that the excessive time to install may be a matter of length - mine takes about 2 hours.

  • @KlassicallyKept

I had to reduce my twists from 170 to 140 so it takes me about 6-8 hours🥲 But this is the first time in my life I’ve ever enjoyed doing my hair because I wash my hair twice in the twists so I just redo the twists one by one without thinking about parts because I just follow the existing parts So it’s truly SOLELY muscle memory and watching a movie 😊 Mya-Karren do you have an average number for your mini twists ?

I have fine strands that are almost straight across my head even though my hair is like a 4a/4b if using the hair chart ( I dont). So because of those straight strands on my head, my mini twist frizz too fast unless rope twisted and I hate how flat rope twists look so I do fluffy mini braids.

My hair also loves twists ❤. I wash weekly, and place 24-30 two-strand twists in my hair with minimal product (~ 1 tbsp each leave-in conditioner and style cream for my whole head) then “seal” each twist with a lightweight all-veggie pomade. I don’t stretch my hair, just twist while damp and let air-dry which only takes an hour (maybe two depending on weather). Question: Have you made progress on your RevAir technique? @@KlassicallyKept Thankfully 😅, I wore a giant ‘Fro as teenager in the 70s, so I knew the basics and just had to reacquaint my self. There was a definite relearning curve though - as I hadn’t braided/twisted my own hair in decades. Even in college I paid a classmate to braid my hair, as her skills were far superior to mine - my girl’s skill-level was magical 😂. Now I have the added challenge of copious grey/silver/white hair, which does what it wants to… *and* grey hair and heat styling are not a good mix. Too much heat can turn grey hair yellowish, even with a heat protectant. I do use a purple shampoo/toner in my second hair wash as a precaution against yellowing, and it is very effective. There’s a new diffuser on the market which I’ll probably try before committing to a RevAir; the diffuser has a very large bowl, as well as cool setting for Afro-textured hair. The diffuser might be all I need as my hair grows longer. For my next haircut in the spring, I’ll probably opt for an old-school “wash & roller set” as that always worked well for me in the past - i was a queen of big hair back in the ‘80s 🤣 .

Question for u…does ur hair really start to loc…or does it frizz and u haven’t found a good way to take them down? I ask bc i thought so too…then i realized i have to break my hair into like 10 sections across my whole head…take oil or shea butter down each twist before i unravel, and once that whole section 1/10 is done i put in the African pride pre poo with water and detangle with a tangle teaser. I can take down my entire head in an hour but i def had a lot of hard take downs before i learned my process. I also can’t go over 3 weeks.

@@mrod87 Yes it really starts to lock. My hair strands are fine and will lock easily say after 2 weeks because it is growing rapidly. I am still learning my hair regarding what she likes and dislikes. It's been a rollercoaster but, I love the journey.

Oh no! That’s a problem: no more than 2 weeks!!! 8 hours every 2 weeks?!? I wish there was a way to make them last 4 weeks without locking😢

No Twists for me. Especially NO mini twists. My hair hates being contorted to change direction. Twists make every hair strand set in a spiral form and that makes it become a tangled mess. Even when I remove them the next day. Braids are better. They keep my strands moving in a more natural direction.

I don’t think my twists look as good as yours. And my hair seems to lock easily. And I don’t want it to look like dreadlocks.

My hair don't look scalpee but the big ass squares with the pencil thick twist is the bane of my existence I think my hair is too short for style at this point or maybe 🤔 my sections are too large

LOL. I am not laughing at your hair, I am laughing at your description. Your parts may be too large. 😊

Twist in my hair is not a good look and it dreads in like three days to a week tangled up because my hair wraps around the twist like African threading SMH

You must have fine hair. Braids work better for fine hair.
