Mini Grinder-Sander: Is It Useful? A First Look and First Impressions

The people at Banggood.com reached out to see if I was interested in providing a product review from items in their catalog. After trying to find products that made sense and were a solid match for my channel, we decided a review of one of their mini sanders/grinders. This is an intriguing product...very very small yet seemingly very useful, and in this video we take a look at the overall features and get a first impression.

Thans for the heads up on that back pulley. I thought the motor was bad. The video set me straight. Thanks!

Glad I could help...it was tough...I want to like it, but it's not the best tolerances and the wandering belt is brutal.

Might be getting one of these myself. What I am gonna do is cut off the cable from the power-supply, since those are quite dangerous to use. then use a buck-boost convertor to regulate the voltage from a 24V PSU.

I've got the PCM version, which gives smooth speed control, and is great. Good instructional, would love to see it in use.

Mine worked perfectly out of the box. Belts changed without issues. You never make belt adjustments with the motor running, put the belt on and spin pulleys by hand.

It was pretty brutal, watching this knucklehead futz around for 20 something minutes, without accomplishing a damn thing. You would think he would sand something to see how well it works, but no.

YES, that will be a follow up for sure...I have a number of projects to get to...I'm hoping to give this thing a run fairly soon. But I definitely need belts, modification of the base plate, and some level of adjustment.

Good honest thorough review is what Bang good got for sure. Just be careful of your hands near that thing and safety glasses too. It would be great for smaller spaces . Or a kid maybe working on a bird house project or something. I agree with your pro's n Cons. It would have been nice to get at least 3 belts in different grits.

I know, right??? Just send it with some belts! I need to drill out that base plate for sure...that'll be key I think.

I know this is old now, but just thought I'd throw my 2c in... Regarding the unit moving around - it's designed to be portable and put away after use. Use a clamp on the corner and you're good to go. Sure - if you want to drill holes and fix it down; great! if not, a small clamp does perfectly.

I did build large HD sanders for steelworks fabs, and the first job to set up is the ENDS face of all rolls to be straight in line, and the balancing of the roll, yes, the fastening screw is at fault on this product.

Yes, I like to see what options are out there. There's no doubt Work Sharp has built a brand with consumer confidence. I personally never got myself one, but with this opportunity to test, I figure it could make a future comparison (if I can get this to actually run properly...haha). Thanks for watching!

One of things that caused tracking problems with mine was the stainless steel cover that stops the tension spring flying out was too high by a couple of MM, and they screwed the main section that holds the motor and too front pulley over it, making the whole assembly crooked. Cut it down "hey walla" that fixed. Next thing the bar that mounts the two front pulleys is too thick by 1 mm and makes the belt ride up over the platten instead of barely touching it, not good. Lucky I have the gear to machine it down and now runs great. Unfortunately, having to do that stuff is is not for most people. I have to ask: why is it so hard to get just a couple of basic things like that right when the rest of the construction is so solid and good?

Just in case u didn’t read my short story buy wider belts in the same length to help with the belt movement they seem to small to keep in one spot while using. Definitely interesting but I’d go with the Ken one especially for belt size more power different grits fatter belts American plugs I can sharpen fairly well on a stone but the Ken onion has saved me hrs in work probably days.

Never seen this contraption looks like it would sharpen your tools real quick I use the ken onion electric belt knife sharpener I have the small belts and the upgraded version for bigger belts works great anytime I have alout of work or buy a Walmart machete I can put an edge on it in a few minutes comes with plenty of different grit belts and even a stropping belt and u can control the speed of the belt and it’s very easy to change the belts and switch back and forth to big and small belts the belts have the same seam in the belts shouldn’t matter how u put it on the Ken onion pulls the sandpaper a little to But much less than this one and not enough to matter I’d try buying bigger belts of the same length so it won’t run back and fourth while sharpening the Ken onion belts are wider if they were that thin I’d definitely have a bigger problem with the belt moving.

You bring up an interesting point...because they offer a 20mm version of this grinder...maybe it's the same pulleys. I'm glad you said that...thanks for the advice!

Definitely like the idea of yours but the Ken onion has worked so good for me from regrinding to light sharpening or even just polishing which ive been very impressed with. I would recommend getting the upgraded version with the longer belts especially with free hand it gives u much easier angles and control to sharpen. More than the small size but it can work almost as well free hand but it took me taking off too much s30v steel of and rounding the tip before I got the hand of free hand with the small setup though even the blade I banged up is as sharp as a razor blade but does need some more work one the tip👍🏻✌🏻.
