Thank you for this video! I tried everything to try to get my wife's 2011 mini to start. After watching this I tried her backup key and it started right up. Saved me from calling a tow truck.

Had the same issue with my manual Countryman. My mechanic spent hours checking fuses, relays and connectors until we run into this video. Dealership (US-Florida) had me bring car's title/registration to order new pre-programmed key from BMW which arrived next day. Dealer had told me FOB keys don't usually break down but this video proved them wrong.

This is exactly what was wrong with mine thankfully mine was in the garage. I have a Mini Cooper countryman 2014 (R60) Got a new key programmed today, when I heard the car start I was so happy. I wasn’t ready for Mini problems lol. Don’t second guess it like I did and ended up doing a diagnostic on my car (especially when ur car don’t usually give problems ) only to find out I should have just did what this video said in the beginning, could have save my self a week of stress.

Thanks for the video. I recently bought a 2012 Cooper SD which came with original key and a spare but the spare doesn't work. Seems to be from a different car! Can it be re-programmed to act as a spare for my car, please?

i have a 2088 Copper S and my key was stuck in. I was able to finally wiggle it out. But now it won't go in smooth. The dash lights come on but the engine it won't turn on. It's like the key is not seated properly. Is there a way to turn it on without the fob?? Or use that little metal key??

Hello, I bought a 2004 mini cooper from an impound lot, was not claimed, I had a new key made and all lights turn on but does not crank, what are possibilities it's something simple? bought a new battery too. i can hear the gas pump turning on when i turn the key.

@@lyndseyfifield I love my mini, but holy moly the last month has been nothing but problems. Battery, FRM, and now this on top of everything. I'm going to have to sell it for scrap because it's just too expensive.

I have a 2008 mini d cooper. Bought as a non runner with in mind the pressurised fuel pump needed changing, which I have. Its had a new relay and new battery. Ive checked all the fuses and found non blown or have water or damp. It just won't run but turns over fine. Could it be the glow plugs and have you any other ideas that im missing. Cheers

Why is the problem normally, the key fob? I have a friend that the temote opens the door and everything but car wont react to puting the key in the slot .

I got a 04 mini the ecu was unplugged and they lost the key long story short I bought it it's all plugged up and put back together other than the slave cylinder being off till I get it but I put a good battery on it and put the key in and nothing the steering wheel is even locked

This is my problem. I went to have a key made for it had the keys blanked out but now the car doesn't communicate with my OBD two reader, and I can't program a key to it because there's no dash power, so what do I do now?

Another thing you can try in this situation is to smash the broken key to a plastic surface. Often, it's a bad contact in the PCB and it might just make contact for a minute so you can start the car. You can try a couple of times with different orientations. I'd say it works in about 50% of the cases. You need to replace the key ASAP anyway, but if it saves you from calling a tow truck, why not try it.

I have an R56-2010 Mini Cooper S that has the key fob stuck in the ignition. What can I do?

So what's wrong with your car when you cannot start it or nothing when there is no power inside like you just showed do you know how to fix that problem

I have a 2012 Mini Cooper, the ignition switch is no longer working, initially when I put the key in the mounted ignition and push it in, nothing would happen, after I wiggle it a little it would work, but as time went by, it became more difficult to actually get it to work, and now it is not working any more. The question is, if I buy the ignition switch, will I be able to swap it out without any issues, or is there a process to do so? It would be appreciated if you let me know your thoughts!

Jody Carter it turned out to be the key itself, if you have a spare key, try that, if that doesn’t work it might be the ignition switch.

Hi, I have a 2010 mini with 2 fobs, 1 of them is used to unlock the doors and the other one to start the car, would you know how can i put them together or what can i do so i can fix this . On tester there is no fault so i am sure that is a key problem but nobody in my country is able to tell me what do i need to do, they just told me i need to change the keys, locks, ignition and cpu...

My suggestion would be to buy a new key. I have never seen when you take a key apart that it works correctly for any duration of time afterward initially yes but it's not long lasting

Hey i have a mini cooper s that wont start, i replaced the starter and battery and it will not start, it started once and then it didnt want to start after i got home. The display turns on but that is it. I do not have the original key i had a copy made. Idk if that is the problem.

I don’t understand why you need to put it in neutral. Is that going to allow the key to start?

I would get it towed to a shop have them change the oil and remove the spark plugs to make sure that the car does not hydraulic. but most likely your car is destroyed, sorry for saying but anything that sits underwater the modules will go bad and cause many many problems. If you have full coverage insurance it should cover it.

Mine is a 2002 mini cooper stick has power from battery but when trying to start gets a click n that's it

So I changed the thermostat on a Mini Cooper 2004 . Disconnect the battery and ecu . And when I put everything back together now the car won’t start . No crank . Is there something I’m supposed to do ?

I had this on my 2004 Mini one 1.6 litre. Tow truck idiot forced it off his truck. As it was stuck in gear and loads of engine oil came out. Now no power and when cranked over. The engine sounded very bad. Any idea's??

You can remove the key from the case ( fob) by pressing the chrome button to get it released, that's your key to open the door. The door handle has a hidden key hole for entry and turn to open.

So I have a 2011 base and had to order a new key. It still does nothing. New car battery installed less than two weeks ago. Drove around and ran some errands, stopped and started fine the whole way. Parked it for the weekend and Monday, nothing. New key, still nothing. No lights, no errors, no warnings. I don't even know where to start and I'm in the middle of nowhere. Closest dealer is over 100 miles away. Where do I even start?

@@angeljasmine1 it was the footwell module. When the battery went out it took that with it. I sent it off to a mechanic in Riverside, CA and they repaired it. Still needs replacing as some electronics don’t work (high beams, etc) The FRM also controls the OBD-II port so if you aren’t able to pull codes, either…

My footwell module wasn’t working either took it off to send it to get replaced but car was working fine i just didn’t had lights or turn signal or windows didn’t go down but the car started

My wife’s mini is having an issue with the starting system, the goes in everything lights up you push on the start button and nothing happens. The battery is good any ideas what else I can check. Is there a starter relay I can check

@@Bublaku I actually just got it working again, I had to take the starter off and clean the terminals, I did a bench test on the starter and it was fine.

It sound weird but when i pres the start button it says open the door, close it, remove the key, put the key again and try to start the car

I’m in Oxford, UK home of the original mini factory. My mechanic told me the trouble with the keys is they have a rechargeable battery that charges when you put it in the key docking station next to the steering wheel. If you drive with your key in your pocket/purse, only do short drives, or have a second key you hardly use the battery in the key holder won’t have a chance to recharge and will eventually die. It’s critical to put the key in the dock regularly, best to do it every time you drive. if your second key isn’t used frequently, rotate it out with your primary, or use it for a long drive a few times a year, so it will have a chance to recharge.

so many problem... should do some action.
