Gospel seems to indicate that we might be getting a Void Domain subclass for clerics in Spelljammer.

B.Dave is the DM!!!!! I hope this means Aabria will come back and run a few sessions and Deborah will also get a chance at running for this crew. I know BDave enjoys escape rooms, so it’ll be interesting to see him deal with some signature DAW puzzles. Hopefully we see Brennan return as a player as well.

@@robertivey7644 while true, Critical Role is now pre-taped instead of running live. Given each episode of Legends ends with something from the following episode Legends is also pre-taped. So the likely reason Brennan is missing Legends is because he is Dming Exandria, the exact time he will be gone is hard to determine since each show could have been recorded at any potential time.

With Torven brimming with Peter Quill vibes, it's only a matter of time when the elven gunslinger shouts "Showtime A-Holes!"

Bac Si is an absolute delight.

I assumed it was spelled Cid, as in deCIDuon, not Sid. That is a spelling some humans use in real life (apparently Spanish in origin, meaning "Lord / God" or "rooster").

Torven's, "See? This is how it happens." routine is wonderful. I could road trip with that without ever getting sick of it. Applicable in every situation. "See, this is how it starts. You're standing at the gas station with the pump in your hand..."

This could be a epic series. The fact everyone seams so capable with gm mode if only for a one or two episode. But still loveing b Davis as gm he has that sort of charm and swarve we all enjoy.

Spelljammer: The Masquerade. Love it

Mindflayer Gospel - I'm intrigued. In our homebrew SJ game based on Astromundi Cluster, after Lugribossk expelled the Tanar'ri from the cluster and forbade their return (that part is canon), he established an Order dedicated to preventing their return - a sort of Illithid Inquisition. The members of this Order, in an effort to prevent corruption and sin, must uphold to virtue and forbid the devouring of sentient brains (they mostly rely on a fungus, although they can eat brains of domesticated animals); thus an order of purely Lawful Good Mindflayers was formed! SJ is neat!

I’ve been running a Spelljammer game for two sessions now. Session one my players met a Mindflayer pirate Barnabas and one of my player immediately daunting roared him out of the cantina. The next session our gloomstalker echo knight fighter slaughter his “enforcer” in one turn…

Just came back after watching Brennan GM for ExU Calamity on Critical Role and I'm here to say he absolutely *_murdered_*

When the DM says something like B. Dave did around 59:45, & earlier, I just say "I share that knowledge with ______" which is either a certain party member/members or the entire party. It usually occurs after a successful check of some sort, and since the DM said it out loud to the table it makes sense to not say the same things again. It's a different story if we're passing notes like we did in the old days.

If the DM could push a button and switch between streaming in the DM box or along with the other players.

This gonna be *awesome.*

I really hope they get a filter to put a hat on Torven for next episode.. lol

You know, I didn't pick up on that Dungeons and Dragons logo in the lower right of the screen initially, so for a moment I thought Sunny had grown a white goatee on her portrait.

3 of the loveliest people in D&D together. Awesome! Looking fwd to this!

It is a wonderful cast. I wonder if it was a bit of a rushed "fill-in" this episode. B Dave is AMAZING and his descriptions are always enthusiastic and packed with adrenaline - but i just feel that in THIS episode there was less player agency. I'd like to see more opportunity for rest of cast to actively participate and shine (I REALLY wanted more spotlight for Ginny). For example - Torvin is Captain - he should be allowed to make the relevant captain decisions like whether to head for the whales or fire the cannons - un prompted.

Rules nerd notes: 6:35 - I love Deborah's flavouring of her monk's unarmored defence (10+dex+wis). Using the scarf for extra visual distraction is a cool way to represent monk technique adding defense beyond what she could get from using dexterity to dodge / parry. 7:00 - 5e's version of "non-lethal damage" is only just what happens when you bring them to zero. You can make them stable but unconscious, instead of making death saves. (Or dead for creatures that aren't PCs, if the DM doesn't do death saves for NPCs / monsters.) Other than that, it's not a different kind of damage, and is no easier to heal. But that only an option with a *melee* attack. "When an attacker reduces a creature to 0 Hit Points with a *melee Attack,* the attacker can knock the creature out." If they have a target dummy, Torven could shoot at her, but she could redirect the bullet at something next to him, instead of right back at him. The Deflect Missiles ability doesn't say anything about a target restriction for the attack you get to make, and the phrasing doesn't imply a riposte: > If you catch a missile in this way, you can spend 1 ki point to make a ranged attack (range 20/60 feet) with the weapon or piece of ammunition you just caught, as part of the same reaction. So I don't see why she'd want to attack Torven. He's seen her kill with the ability, she doesn't need to prove to him that it can do more than break a glass or ceramic thing or hit a wooden target. 7:48 - 19 for deflect missiles. It's 1d10 + monk_level + dex, so that means she's at *least* level 4, if she had a dex of 20 for a +5 modifier, and she rolled a 10 on the d10. Having a 20 is rare for a level 4 character, but if she's level 5, she'd have Extra Attack which she wasn't using in either previous fight. I'm guessing she's just level 4, since Deborah forgetting she has Extra Attack would be even more surprising to me. 1:22:37 - Sacred Flame is a saving-throw cantrip (dex), not an attack roll. Also, I'm not sure why Riddle wanted to take the risk of jumping to the other ship; she has ranged attacks, and her hand crossbow has range 30/120 so she could get Sneak Attack with it from their ship. With Sunny over there, she can carry Bac Si back. Or maybe Riddle was thinking that she and the other 2 already over there should infiltrate the ship and take out the captain. That makes some sense; with just the ships fighting each other with ship weapons, it sounded like the Deciduon would likely get torn apart. 1:24:40 - she forgot to tell him that Sanctuary only lasts until you attack, cast a spell on an enemy, or cause damage to another creature. His turn's probably coming soon; would have made sense to cast it on herself. Or cast Bless, since the away team is still within 30ft. Or Protection from Evil and Good to guard against charm/fright/possession from aberrations like Ilithids. As a Void cleric, I'd assume she'd know about Illithids and how to defend against them. Oh, I see. As a player new to the cleric class, that was just a player mistake, thinking it would last.

Yes, it's a dex save. Same reason she cast Sanctuary on Torven right before his turn: new class for her, not familiar with her spells yet.

You’re looking for Dice, Camera, Action. Though DCA currently is discontinued you can still find Anna Prosser as Evelyn Marthain & Holly Conrad as Strix in several of Acquisition’s incorporated episodes. Also Holly Conrad ran a Planescape campaign called trapped in the birdcage that is a Strix prequel. Anna is one of the players. And you can find Anna & Nate ( who played Paultin) in a ongoing campaign called Nights of Eveningstar. Anna, who you referred to as the “cute blonde” ( the blonde hair is a wig) will eventually be one of the guest players in Legends of the Mulitverse. She has a ton of ttrpg liveplays on various channels. I recommend watching the level 20 one shot run by BDave on the world builders channel that has Anna, Aabria & Brennan Lee Mulligan as players.

If the target passes the Dex save it can. It's only a cantrip. Possibly they badly phrased it but it's essentially a miss.

@@GrandiaKnight Ah, I should have been more specific. I did not mean miss as in a failure to connect with the target, I meant miss as in a failure to aim the spell. A target can dodge it, but it will always fly exactly where intended (the physical location the target was before the dex save). It even ignores cover.

@@davidgomes4408 Well, you're not wrong, the urge is there. But I would be ashamed to represent the type of pedant who argues the rules while disregarding the story they're meant to support. Also, I was not consciously craving attention but there's nothing lame about those who do. We sublimate those desires in such a way that we don't appear desperate or socially inept, but everyone (with particular neurodivergent exceptions) craves attention of certain kinds in certain amounts.

You're right that it can't *miss* (because that implies an attack), only be avoided by a save. But the chance to have it succeed is fairly similar whether it's the player rolling an attack or the DM rolling a save. (Usually attack-roll cantrips have a somewhat higher success rate, and they can crit, but it depends on target AC and save bonus for the particular save. Githzerai are presumably bad at dex saves as well as having low AC.) If anyone else at the table noticed, their reasons for not interrupting are: 1. similar odds 2. it's only a cantrip, so 2d8 damage on one of 3 mooks, not going to make an immediate difference in the combat situation either way. Ginny rolling a nat1 is the same as B. Dave rolling a nat20 on the save, which would save against a DC16 or lower unless they have -5 dex. It doesn't really matter who rolls a die, unless you're superstitious about dice. ---- There's no harm in talking about things they did differently from the rules-as-written. Especially in actual-play (for an audience), pace is important, so people often don't interrupt during play even if they see others making a mechanics mistake. Unless it's something they think is worth interrupting for, like a high-level spell or something that would save a character from death. So an after-action report on what went by-the-book following RAW can maybe even help new players who are learning to play, or seeing new spells in action. Or at least be interesting for rules nerds such as myself. I don't see a problem with this unless people start saying the players should have known better or anything like that. People make mistakes, especially with a non-trivial rules system. Often (like here) it's just a mistake; clearly she's new to the class and hasn't read all her spells carefully, just like with Sanctuary which she caught herself a minute after casting. She maybe forgot that some damage cantrips are based on saves so didn't think to check. (Casting Sanctuary is a bigger mistake; that could have been a useful leveled spell like Bless or Protection from Evil and Good to defend against mental stuff from aberrations such as mind flayers. Or Guiding Bolt or Hold Person. But that's still a relatively minor mistake.) --- Another thing I noticed was that at 7:00 B. Dave said you can do "non-lethal damage" with a bullet. * in 5e, there isn't a different damage type, you just have the option of leaving someone unconscious but stable when taking them to 0 HP * but only with a *melee* attack: "When an attacker reduces a creature to 0 Hit Points with a melee Attack, the attacker can knock the creature out." So no, the 5e rules avoid the nonsense of being able to do non-lethal damage with normally-lethal ranged weapons. No flat of a bullet necessary. The sensible thing for Sunny to do would be throw / redirect the bullet at some other target, like a wooden target that Torven stands near. A monk that deflects all the damage from a ranged attack can "make a ranged attack", no limitation on target.
