I know the only thing people want to talk about is classes and races, but I was one of the apparently very few people who actually read the new stealth/invisibility rules that were in the playtest for many versions, and they are deeply, deeply silly and completely broken. Going into a cupboard and crouching for a bit (until you suceeded on a DC 15 check against nobody), you would turn transparent and could thus leave it and walk around invisible. It seems to stem from an attempt at making being invisible and being undetected by other creatures the same thing (i.e. making it impossible for someone to be transparent but audible/noticeable). Which is unnecessary and likely not possible without making major sacrifices, even if you came up with a great way to state those rules. There weren't really that many problems with the old stealth rules, once you cobbled them together. They were just kind of badly explained, and also spread out in multiple places in the book and not truly gathered under a single heading, so I understand if people think they were perhaps bad - but really they were very simple and truly did get the job done without any real problems. (if there were any problems with the old stealth rules IMO, perhaps it was just that it's not ideal to have the player roll their own stealth check "ahead of time", so it might be an improvement if the rules simply had the GM roll your stealth check for you when there was a chance of detection or something like that.)

I really feel like we could use a (good) 5.5e. While it's very easy to access for new players, I think there's a lot that could be done to add more individual crunch to the current edition without compromising the experiences of new players. Adding some extra mechanics to encourage creativity and allowing players to make characters of the same class (and even subclass) that can play differently mechanically just as much as they do in RP would be a great step in the right direction. I think the biggest catch in 5e is that it is often designed feeling like it's telling you what you can't do rather than giving you a bunch of cool things to pick from and let you build a unique character. The first thing I always do is let the ability score increases give you BOTH your increase and grab a feat. Currently I think too many people in the scene are concern trolling about things being OP, when really they're not even close to that if you compare to what you can get up to in other game systems. Just my two cents anyhow. I've been hoping to get the time to work on something like this myself. So, I'm happy to see the team is giving it a crack.

@@anthonywalden239 Swashbuckler just sort of doesn't work in the current feature cadence. If Rogues kept their 6th level subclass feature, then Swashbucklers could get their swashbuckler-y Cunning Strikes options there, but having to wait until level 9 or 13 to remotely even Buckle your Swashes with your Cunning Strikes, let alone Swashing your Buckles, means that 90% of Swashbucklers are basically playing a bad thief for their entire career anyway. In my opinion, losing the 3 / 6 / 10 / 14 feature cadence really messed up Rogues and Bards from a design perspective. A Swashbuckler with a level 6 sublcass feature could have Cunning Strike features that really lean into the archetype. Again, given the limited scope of the revision, I get the choice not to, just stinks.

I am waiting to see what, if anything, has been done between magic weapons, and Rogues. Rogues as the only weapon using class that does not get extra attack seem to get about half as much benefit out of most magic weapons, since almost all of them have "per attack" effects (One of the best official magic weapons/items a Rogue can get is "Bracer of Flying Daggers", which basically give Rogues the Extra Attack feature), and this gap between Rogues, and other weapon using martial classes, and half-caster classes seems to be one of the largest issues with the Rogue class that was not addressed in the playtest.

While they still need two weapon fighting to gain their modifier on damage rolls, I think they have a reliable multiattack, and with the cunning action at level 5 and up, I think rogues are in a unique position, to be a very fluid, and fun class to play with the phb24.

@@bigvidboi4909 yes, and no. Looking at the base classes with only ASI's, and no magic weapons, the sustained average damage of a Rogue with sneak attack (regardless of weapon choice) will generally be greater than the potential average damage if a sword & board Fighter of a similar level hits with all of their attacks, but less than the potential average damage if a greatsword Fighter of that level hits with all their attacks. When you take miss chances into account, a high level Rogue with Advantage on their one attack every turn (which should be fairly easy) should be averaging more damage over the adventuring day than a greatsword Fighter attacking normally, but less than the average damage if that greatsword Fighter can get Advantage on all of their attacks, and putting magic weapons into the equations, the more attacks the Fighter can get to land, the more average damage will shift in the Fighter's favor. I have been focusing on comparing the Rogue, and Fighter, but Barbarians with Advantage from Reckless attack every turn would be very likely to get the benefits of multiple hits per turn out of a magic weapon, and with Monks getting the teased "Monk specific magic weapons" any "per hit" effects could be very likely to trigger 2, or 3+ times per turn.

@@roninhare9615 Yeah, the Nick Weapon Mastery will really help rogues deal reliable damage, but with magic weapons I think there is a bit of a bottleneck that I am interested in seeing addressed. Are Rogues going to be forced to have 2 magic weapons (and two attunement slots?) on par with a different martial class, or half-caster class attacking with a single magic weapon? Will there be some new "paired weapon" magic weapons to support two-weapon-fighting with a single attunement slot? Will a transition away from resistance to non-magical Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage mean it is alright for a two-weapon-fighting character's off-hand weapon to not be magical? Are there going to be more magic items like "Bracer of Flying Daggers", "Scimitar of Speed", and "Dancing Blade" which would grant Rogues something equivalent of the "Extra Attack" feature?
